PETALING JAYA: A public poll on the perception of the government’s performance after 100 days in power shows that the majority of respondents are positive about the direction of the country, says Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

He said most of the respondents of the poll,  conducted by Berkshire Media and involving 487,000 respondents nationwide, were satisfied with the Pakatan Harapan-led government and its policies.

But the survey also drew some negative feedback.

According to Dr Mahathir, the negative perceptions were mainly linked to the government’s decisions on expenditure, including for transport and infrastructure projects like the Mass Rapid Rail Transit and Light Rail Transit systems.

“(Respondents also expressed dissatisfaction) with the government’s fight against corruption, as many previous government leaders have not yet been brought to court,” he told reporters after chairing a Pakatan Harapan council meeting on Friday (Sept 7).

However, the Prime Minister warned that authorities would go hard on such leaders from the previous administration, including those involved in small cases.

“We will not just focus on big cases that have clear evidence, but also small cases involving leaders who were complicit under the previous government,” he said.

Dr Mahathir said many respondents felt unhappy that some of these leaders managed to stay under the radar from the authorities.
