Umno lawyers give police 7 days for info on RM116.7mil cash seized from Najib-linked condos
PETALING JAYA: Umno’s lawyers have given seven days to the police to provide relevant documents and information regarding the RM116.7mil cash that it seized from Pavilion Residences, Kuala Lumpur, during investigations into 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB).
The lawyers issued a letter to the police requesting the information, and said in a statement that the cops are given seven days to comply.
“Our client reiterates that a substantial portion of the money seized belongs to Umno and has no relationship whatsoever with the case of 1MDB or SRC,” the statement read.
On Wednesday, the head of Umno’s legal unit, Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said, said Scivetti & Associates, along with a team of lawyers led by Datuk Hariharan Tara Singh, had been appointed to claim the seized cash, which Umno claims is its political fund.
Police seized the cash during its raids at Pavilion Residences condos which were linked to former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, as part of investigations into 1MDB.
After the discovery of the money there, Umno claimed that it belonged to the party.
It had claimed that the party constitution allowed for its president to source and manage party funds, including for the general elections.

I truly believe cash found belongs to Umno, claims Bung Moktar
Umno supreme council member Bung Moktar Radin confessed that he is one of those among the party loyalists that trusts every word uttered by former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak.
As such, he firmly believes that the huge amount of cash confiscated by the police from Pavilion Residences in Kuala Lumpur on May 18, indeed belongs to Umno as claimed by the former party president.
In an interview, he said he attributes his loyalty to Najib to the legacy left by Dr Mahathir Mohamad who led Umno for over two decades.
“According to Najib, that is the party’s money. Since he claims so, then there is nothing wrong (for the party to own such huge amount of cash) as everybody can donate to the party,” Bung told Malaysiakini.
As to why the money was kept in a luxury apartment instead of the bank, he said: “Maybe (Najib) has no time to arrange it (to bank in the money) as he was travelling every day (during the election campaigning period). But I don’t know, only Najib knows.
“I believe my leaders because we were trained to be loyal to our leaders. During his time, Mahathir trained us to trust the leader. Even if Mahathir is no longer with us, we still trust our (party) leader,” said Bung, who retained his Kinabatangan seat in Sabah at the May 9 general election.

RM114m: 22 bank officers, 35 bags of cash, 26 currencies, three days to count
It took 22 bank officers three days to count 35 bags of cash seized from a vacant luxury unit linked to former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak, Commercial Crimes Department director Amar Singh revealed.
“We seized 72 bags. Of these, 35 contained cash in 26 currencies,” he told a press conference in Kuala Lumpur this morning.
Amar said the cash was counted by 21 officers from Bank Negara and one officer from Bank Islam.
The total amount was RM114 million.
The value of the remaining 37 bags, which contained jewellery and watches, have yet to be ascertained.

I doubt the police are smart enough or have the manpower to review all the CCTV footage to see who, when, what, how frequently stuff moves through the door of that apartment. … and then ask UMNO to ask those movers to show up to make statutory declarations. Would the reported facts then jive with the discoveries?
I am also sure the big time robbers are kicking themselves for not heisting those properties but now they have incentives to aim for the ex-government leaders’ properties instead of poor folks.. If they “gang” up and collaborate, it could be very lucrative. They have lots of eyes on the ground. If they go into the darkweb, they might even tap into the CCTV footage themselves. We loive in interesting times. I doubt also that the police will get interested in a sudden upsurge of membership in fitness centres of people who want to develop upper body strength.
