11.10am: Seputeh, Kuala Lumpur – Incumbent Seputeh MP Teresa Kok has seemingly found a way to cover up, quote literally, Pakatan Harapan chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s face, on the billboards in her constituency, in order to not flout the Election Commission’s (EC) rules.
Writing on Facebook, she said she received calls from the EC to take down a billboard with Mahathir’s photo, together with DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng. After negotiating with EC officials, party members were allowed to cover the photos themselves.
The solution – pasting a black piece of paper with the short form of the two leaders’ names (Tun M and LGE) over their faces.

DAP leader: Let’s bury BN in their free coffins
The offer of free coffins to the Indian community in Bagan Datuk, allegedly made by the deputy prime minister, was the main topic at a DAP ceramah in Ipoh
IPOH: Thousands of people flooded a street in Ipoh yesterday to hear DAP leaders like Lim Kit Siang, Nga Kor Ming and M Kulasegaran, who focused on claims that Bagan Datuk incumbent Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had offered the Indian community in his constituency free coffins and covered funeral expenses.
Buntong incumbent A Sivasubramaniam said the alleged offer was an “insult” to Indians.
“We have heard that Zahid has offered Indians in Bagan Datuk free coffins. This is embarrassing, and MIC which is there cannot even voice out against this statement.
“People have to teach them (a lesson) and put BN in coffins instead,” he said at the ceramah at Jalan Pasir Puteh here.
The claim was made by pro-Barisan Nasional (BN) activist Ramesh Rao, who said in a Twitter post yesterday that Zahid had promised to bear the funeral costs and provide coffins for Indians in Bagan Datuk.
Kulasegaran, who is the Ipoh Barat incumbent, agreed with Sivasubramaniam.
“Why hasn’t MIC said anything about this?” he added.
Sivasubramaniam also hit out at the Perak state government, saying it had failed its people.
“In my two terms as an assemblyman, I had, for instance, asked the Perak MB about the terrible state of government hospitals here.
“I have visited some hospitals and I know. Why has the state government failed to look into the welfare of the people?
“We have been asking questions in the state assembly pertaining to the value of projects, but they reject our questions. They have been doing that for the past 10 years. If the people want a government that answers questions, you will have to vote us into government,” he said.

Dr M to contest under Anwar’s logo in GE14

Twenty years ago, Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Anwar Ibrahim were at each other’s throat, with the protégé trying to depose the mentor.
But with the 14th general election around the corner, a new chapter has been written on their relationship with Mahathir set to contest under the logo of PKR, the party Anwar set up to fight him.
The PKR “eye” has been chosen as Pakatan Harapan’s common logo for the coming polls after the coalition failed to get itself registered with the Registrar of Societies.
The choice, which also sees DAP’s rocket logo grounded in the peninsula, was announced by Mahathir at the Johor leg of the Jelajah Harapan tour in Pasir Gudang, tonight.
“I am very happy that something that would have otherwise been impossible has been achieved (today).
“It is my pleasure to announce to Malaysia and the world that Harapan, including Bersatu, will share PKR’s symbol,” he said.

Besides presenting a united front, using the PKR logo means that members of Mahathir’s party can contest the 14th general election despite having the party having been temporarily dissolved by the ROS yesterday.

A PKR leader has hit back at an Umno minister’s criticisms over Pakatan Harapan using PKR’s logo saying it’s a sign the ruling party is afraid.
“How scared Prime Minister Najib Razak must be, to the point a new party is stopped from using their own logo.
“How shaken a warrior is, to the point the face of a 93-year-old senior citizen cannot be shown in public nationwide,” said PKR vice president Nurul Izzah in a statement today.
She was responding to Umno’s Communications and Multimedia Minister Salleh Said Keruak, who yesterday accused Harapan of trying to “fool” the Malays by having its parties use PKR’s logo.
“The use of a single logo charts a first in the history of the opposition coalition…
“It is clear only Malay leadears of Umno-BN such as Salleh are ‘fooled’ when Harapan uses the PKR logo,” she said.
“What the Umno leadership really fears, is the rise of the people and the Malays towards Umno-BN’s kleptocratic regime, when the general election comes,” said Nurul Izzah.

KUALA LUMPUR, April 6 — DAP’s decision not to use its “rocket” symbol in the 14th general election (GE14) is a “game-changing” move that signals the party’s commitment to inclusive politics, its parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang said today.
He said the “heart-wrenching” move was a necessary one to show voters that DAP is prepared to look beyond party interests and contest as a single united Opposition bloc that transcends race, language, religion or partisanship.
“The preparedness of DAP leaders to undergo the pain and heart-wrenching associated with the decision to use a common Pakatan Harapan (PH) logo, which is not the ‘rocket’ symbol, is a game changer, sending out a loud and clear message,” Lim said in a speech in Perling, Johor.
“That the time has come for all Malaysians to rise above race, language, religion, and even political party so that Malaysia can have a second chance to reset nation-building policies.”

Never thought I’d see the day that Tun Mahathir will lead a coalition contesting under the Keadilan logo. 19 years after the party was formed, directly as a result of what he did in 1998 to DS Anwar Ibrahim. But these are extraordinary times.
