Soi Lek: MCA like ICU patient getting wrong diagnosis
KUALA LUMPUR, May 20 — Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek gave a damning appraisal of MCA’s future today, saying the party was in critical condition and yet still did not understand what went wrong.
In a Facebook post defending his previous stand for the party not to accept any Cabinet post after the 13th general election, the former MCA president said this would have allowed the party to renew itself from within.
He also insisted that MCA did not have any moral standing to claim Cabinet posts on the pretext of representing the Chinese community when the latter clearly rejected it at the ballot box.
“MCA’s fortunes in the May 9 general election could have been different if we continued to remain outside the government.
“Today, MCA is like the patient in ICU with no doctors to give the right prescription,” he said.
.
Dr Chua’s assessment of MCA’s political fortunes is not far off. The party went from 31 federal seats in 2004 to just 14 seats in 2008.
The decline continued in 2013 when the party’s parliamentary representation was halved again to just seven.
In the 14th general election, MCA was reduced to a single parliamentary seat: Ayer Hitam held by deputy president Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong.

MCA should have stayed out of cabinet, says Soi Lek
FORMER MCA president Dr Chua Soi Lek said if the party had remained out of the cabinet after the 13th general election (GE13), the Chinese community would not regard the party with such disdain today.
“I think if MCA had insisted on staying out of the cabinet, we would have more room to manoeuvre,” Dr Chua told The Malaysian Insight recently.
The declaration proved prophetic, as the party performed worse than 2008, then under Ong Ka Ting’s leadership, which led the party’s leaders to resign from all cabinet and senior governmental positions.
MCA won seven parliamentary seats and retained 11 state seats which saw its critics derisively label it the 7-11 party, after the popular convenience store.
.
“If we had stayed out, then our political situation would be different today. Now the people blame MCA for everything because MCA is part of the government, this is the burden that we have to bear,” he said.
The former health minister said the recent attacks on former sugar tycoon Robert Kuok, who is highly regarded among the Chinese, proved that MCA could not champion the community even when it was in the cabinet.
“Senior MCA leaders did not dare to speak up for Kuok, even deputy president Wee Ka Siong, who attacked the DAP over the episode, did nothing,” Dr Chua said.
He also criticised MCA for its poor performance on critical current issues, saying the party neither showed courage nor political wisdom.
“This had led the community to disrespect MCA. If the party did not re-join the cabinet back then, then we would have more room to express our opinions on current issues,” the former Labis MP said.

Nazri: MCA not voice of Chinese, DAP, ‘Tokong’ Guan Eng are
Umno supreme council member Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz has lashed out at MCA after its youth chief Chong Sin Woon said the former’s insults against tycoon Robert Kuok were tantamount to insulting all Chinese.
Nazri reiterated that Kuok did not represent the Chinese community and neither did the MCA.
“From my point of view, the party that won the most Chinese seats would be the voice of the Chinese. And that’s not MCA.
“Looking at the results of the 2013 general election, you can easily deduce the voice of the Chinese in Malaysia is DAP and the boss is ‘tokong’ (deity) Lim Guan Eng.
“That is why I work with him because he is the voice of the Chinese,” he told Malaysiakini.

Ex-president: Given a choice, I would erase my history in MCA
Adrian Wong Published 3 Mar 2017, 8:05 pm

He was once MCA president and transport minister. He exposed corruption in the allocation for Chinese schools and the Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ) scandal. And the list continues.
However, when Ong Tee Keat quit MCA in January, there were no news reports on this.
The matter only became public this week, when a Chinese daily got wind of his resignation and contacted him for confirmation.
In an interview with Malaysiakini, Ong provides the answers.
From the onset, it was evident that Ong no longer cared about MCA, and revealed that the feeling appeared to be mutual, since none had attempted to dissuade him from quitting.
He also does not want to be remembered in MCA.
“Nobody asked me to stay. First of all, I don’t need and don’t care about others asking me to stay.
“I don’t wish for them to remember me,” Ong retorted when asked how he would like to be remembered.
“If given a choice, I would rather erase the history of my presence in MCA, including all the things I had done. Right or wrong, let the people judge me,” he added.

The MCA: From 7-11 to 1+3D DaMaCai party
After the last general election, MCA was mocked as the ‘7-11′ convenience store due to the party only wining seven parliament and 11 state seats.
If the Chinese continue to vote against it in the next polls, party deputy president Wee Ka Siong said MCA might become “1+3D DaMaCai” with only one parliament and three state seats.
