Deputy Home Minister, Nur Jazlan: Anwar is a convict who is not free to meet anyone without going through the process of getting permission.

Shameful to label Anwar a convict, lawyer slams deputy home minister

ANWAR Ibrahim’s lawyer has panned Deputy Home Minister Nur Jazlan for denigrating his client by calling him a mere convict.

Lawyer N. Surendran said the incarcerated Anwar was known internationally as a “prisoner of conscience” and his persecution had been denounced by the United Nations.

“To brand the globally respected Anwar Ibrahim a convict is a shameful and desperate act by this junior minister.

“Even the United Nations, through its Working Group on Arbitrary Detention, has called Anwar’s jailing arbitrary and urged his release.

“It is laughable for Nur Jazlan to ignore all this and label Anwar just another convict,” he said in a statement today.
.
“If he is just a convict, why does the prime minister of Malaysia visit him?”
.
The deputy minister denied that the Home Ministry had issued the order to bar Dr Mahathir.

The Prisons Department Director-general Zulkifli Omar today said it was the decision of the Sungai Buloh prisons director, and that the visitor had not formally applied to meet Anwar. – January 11, 2018.

Anwar Visited By Long-Lost Uncle Khathir

zzzmanw.jpg

KUALA LUMPUR: Touching scenes at Hospital Kuala Lumpur this afternoon as jailed defacto PKR leader, Anwar Ibrahim, still recuperating from surgery was paid a surprise visit by his long-lost Uncle Khathir.

“We have a strict policy of only permitting close family or senior Barisan Ministers to visit convicts like Anwar,” a prison official explained, “apparently Anwar and his uncle were quite close once before falling out in the 90’s.”

“During the brief visit, I overheard Uncle Khathir thanking Anwar for something or other. He must be a distant uncle because frankly speaking, I don’t see much family resemblance!”

(Updated )
.

Prison authorities have barred Pakatan Harapan chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad from meeting Anwar Ibrahim, who is recovering at the Hospital Rehabilitasi Cheras in Kuala Lumpur, this evening.

Speaking to reporters, Mahathir said he was informed that the instruction was from the Home Ministry.

“I feel sad. I just wanted to meet him, to thank him for not objecting, in fact, supporting me as a candidate (for prime minister),” he added.

On Sunday, Harapan had named Mahathir, 93, as its candidate for the prime minister’s post if the opposition coalition wins federal power in the next general election.

‘If you’re a real man, open the cage’ – poetic jabs continue

Published:     Modified:

As the clock ticks down to the 14th general election, the political feud has taken a poetic twist.

PKR vice-president Tian Chua is the latest to pen a poem to counter Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.

“This is my poem… Najib listen. Gagak berlagak di atas dahan, Rajawali dihambat dalam kurung, Kalaulah benar anak jantan, Buka sangkar ayuh bertarung!” he tweeted.

Tian Chua also tagged the prime minister in his tweet.

The poem challenges Najib to free jailed former opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim in order for him to join the fight if the prime minister is indeed a “real man”.

This was in response to Najib’s poem during the Umno general assembly at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

PM: I visited Anwar in hospital out of good faith, but he mocked me

Published:     Modified:

UMNO AGM | Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak has expressed regret that an act done in good faith elicited a sarcastic response.

The premier was talking about visiting PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim in hospital after the latter underwent a shoulder operation.

“He was sick, so I visited him at the hospital on the grounds that we were old acquaintances.

“I was only visiting him, that’s why I brought my wife along. But our sincerity was mocked by a poem,” he told delegates attending Umno’s 71st general assembly at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) in Kuala Lumpur.

Following the Nov 17 hospital visit, a poem was uploaded on Anwar’s Facebook page which indicated that the battle against BN would continue.

In response, Najib came out with his own poem today.

“We accept the call to continue to fight, so fight like ‘a real man’ in the upcoming general election,” said Najib, who recited his poem to loud cheers from Umno delegates present.

Najib and I visited Anwar out of compassion, says Zahid

Radzi Razak

THE prime minister and his deputy’s visit to Kuala Lumpur Hospital to see opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim is based on compassion, said Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

The deputy prime minister said his and Najib Razak’s decision to see Anwar, who is recuperating after undergoing surgery on his shoulder last week, was not politically motivated.

This followed Twitter users, including Former Bar Council president and human rights activist Ambiga Sreenevasan, expressing scepticism earlier today over Najib’s visit, which took place yesterday.

“I never planned to visit Anwar, but I felt compelled to do so after Najib and his wife, Rosmah Mansor, visited him,” said Zahid at 1M4U Sentral in Puchong tonight.

“We set aside politics and acted on compassion. This was also evident when Najib and I went to Penang when it was hit by floods recently.

Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has visited de facto Pakatan Harapan leader Anwar Ibrahim at Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL).

“Just visited Anwar Ibrahim who underwent surgery on his right shoulder at HKL recently.

“May he have a speedy recovery,” he said in a Facebook posting.

In the photograph uploaded on Facebook, Zahid and his wife were seen by Anwar’s bedside.

Anwar was also accompanied by two of his daughters, Nurul Nuha and Nurul Ilham.

In a statement posted on Facebook, Anwar’s family said Nurul Nuha and Nurul Ilham had received the couple as their mother, Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, who is also PKR president, was carrying out party duties in Kuantan.

“The deputy prime minister asked about (Anwar’s health and follow up treatment.

“Our father reiterated his appreciation to the hospital and prisons department for assisting with his treatment,” said the statement.

Zahid: I will negotiate for Anwar’s treatment until full recovery

Published:     Modified:

Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who is also home minister, said today that he will negotiate for opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim to receive post-surgery treatment until he has wholly recuperated.

“I will negotiate with the Health Ministry and the Prisons Department to provide him with post-operation treatment until he is fully recovered,” he told journalists in Puchong tonight.

Zahid was asked about Anwar’s family’s request to allow the Pakatan Harapan de facto leader to undergo full recovery in a hospital instead of prison.

However, Zahid did not say whether the treatment will take place within prison.
