MALAYSIA – Malaysia’s football body was fined US$30,000 (S$40,900) on Tuesday (Oct 31) after the national team’s fans chanted “dogs” at supporters from Singapore and Brunei during matches at the South-East Asian (SEA) Games.

Malaysian supporters chanted “Brunei dogs should just be killed” during their side’s 2-1 victory over the neighbouring country on August 14 at the Kuala Lumpur-hosted tournament, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) said.

Two days later, the fans also chanted that Singaporeans were “dogs” as Malaysia beat the city-state 2-1.

The AFC’s disciplinary committee fined the Football Association of Malaysia US$15,000 for each of the offences.

Now, you’ve probably noticed that Singapore is for some reason, labelled as Thailand.

But that is just the tip of the flagberg.

Vietnam has the Singapore flag, Singapore has the Thailand flag, Thailand has the Indonesian flag, Indonesia now is under the Vietnam flag, the Philippines bears the Myanmar flag, and Myanmar in turn, is listed alongside the Philippine flag, Laos has the Cambodian flag, and Cambodia bears the Laos flag.

calls for calm as rage continues over flag blunder

The call comes as anti-Malaysia protests erupted in several cities.
.

JAKARTA: The Indonesian government has asked people not to overreact to a gaffe that saw Indonesia’s flag printed upside-down in a Southeast Asian Games commemorative magazine, after protests were staged in several cities.

Protests, burnings of replica Malaysian flags and angry denunciations of the Malaysian government erupted in cities across the archipelago on Tuesday.
.
About 200 people demonstrated outside the Malaysian consulate in Medan, Sumatra.

The protesters burned tyres and images of the Malaysian flag printed on paper, while demanding an official apology from Malaysia’s prime minister.
.
The protests, which were also staged on Bangka island, West Aceh and Riau province, follow the hacking of 33 Malaysian websites on Monday by a group who claimed to be from Indonesia.

33 websites under attack, says CyberSecurity Malaysia

TEOH PEI YING
New Straits Times22 August 2017

KUALA LUMPUR: CyberSecurity Malaysia has confirmed that a group of hackers, believed to be from Indonesia, have defaced more than 30 Malaysian websites following the recent flag misprint in the Kuala Lumpur Sea Games’ official souvenir booklet.

The group left a message: “Bendera Negaraku Bukanlah Mainan” (My national flag is not a plaything) on the sites that included seriputeri.edu.my and innercircle.my.

Its chief executive officer Datuk Dr Amiruddin Abdul Wahab said as of 3.40pm, 33 sites had been defaced.

“CyberSecurity Malaysia has been receiving notification on cases targeting Malaysian websites, confidential information being leaked and possible Distributed Denial of Services (DDOS) attacks.

: Peaceful demo in Jakarta over flag issue
.

zindo.jpg

JAKARTA: About 50 members of an non-governmental organisation (NGO) known as Laskar Merah Putih today staged a peaceful demonstration to express their disappointment over the use of an upside-down picture of the Indonesian flag in the souvenir booklet of the ongoing Sea Games in Kuala Lumpur.

They gathered for about two hours from 2pm in front of the Malaysian Embassy complex in Kuningan here and hung up a banner demanding that Malaysia apologise once again to the people of Indonesia over the error.

Members of the group carried posters and placards claiming that Malaysia had committed many mistakes and called on the Indonesian government to break off diplomatic relations.

Laskar Merah Putih leader Adek Erfil Manurung said the printing of the flag upside-down was something extreme and an insult to Indonesia.

The NGO also raised the issue of the Malaysian government having allegedly violated the law in the purchase of so-called customary land in Kemang here.

Adek and two other representatives of the NGO were allowed into the embassy complex to hand over a protest memorandum which was received by the Malaysian Deputy Ambassador to Indonesia, Zamshari Shaharan.

Indonesian hackers deface 27 Malaysian websites in response to upside-down flag gaffe

‘Our nation’s flag is not a plaything’: Indonesian hackers deface 27 Malaysian websites in response to upside-down flag gaffe

Today, unidentified hackers from Indonesia hacked and defaced dozens of Malaysian websites in their protest of the upside-down flag controversy. As reported by Elshinta, as many as 27 websites were defaced to show a message like in the screenshot above.

The 27 websites now show photos of the upside-down Indonesian flag as appeared in the commemorative magazine of the regional sporting event, with a message underneath them that translates to, “Our nation’s flag is not a plaything.”

Under those are online handles of over a dozen hackers, believed to be Indonesian.

Of all the websites that were hacked, none of them appear to be hosted by the Malaysian government.

At the time of writing, the targeted websites are still defaced.

PETALING JAYA: Indonesians are apparently still angry despite Putrajaya’s apology for the flag blunder in the official souvenir booklet of the Kuala Lumpur SEA Games 2017, with 27 Malaysian websites reportedly hacked by a group calling itself “hacker rulez”.

According to Indonesian news portal Suara.com, the affected websites were mostly private and business blogs.

Clicking on the sites re-routes visitors to another website, www.beahappymillionaire.com, which displays the message “My national flag is not a toy”.

Pictures from the official SEA Games booklet can be seen, while Indonesia’s national anthem “Tanah Air Beta” plays in the background.
