SINGAPORE — Nine regulars and 14 National Service full-time (NSF) officers will face varying punishments for their involvement in an incident where Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) officers were captured in two video clips thrashing a dormitory.

In a media release today (June 26), the SCDF said its investigations showed that these officers were attending a Section Commander course when they were found to be misbehaving and damaging property in a dormitory at the Civil Defence Academy on April 24.

The two short video clips, which attracted much criticism from members of the public after they were widely circulated on social media, show a trashed dormitory where SCDF personnel sporting close-cropped hair were flouting rules, such as smoking.

The SCDF said it deeply regrets the misconduct of its officers and takes a very serious view of it.

“Such behaviour does not reflect the culture and discipline expected of all SCDF officers. We expect all SCDF officers, whether regular officers, NSFs or NSmen, to demonstrate exemplary personal and professional conduct in line with our core values of Pride and Care,” it said.

WILL THERE BE A 3RD VIDEO?

On Monday, 27 April 2015, someone released a video of  Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) personnel behaving badly in a dormitory.

Now, a second video, of a different incident, has been uploaded.

Two videos of SCDF personnel wrecking dormitory do not reflect culture, conduct: Spokesperson

‘Wrecked dorm’ videos an isolated incident: SCDF

SINGAPORE — The behaviour of the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) personnel who were captured on video wrecking their dormitory is out of sync with the rest of the force, said its spokesperson today (April 28), who stressed that the matter is being taken “very seriously”.

wo short clips uploaded in the past two days show a trashed dormitory where SCDF personnel sporting close-cropped hair were flouting rules, such as smoking. The videos have attracted criticism of the bad behaviour from members of the public.

But Colonel Abdul Razak Abdul Raheem, director of the SCDF Public Affairs Department, stressed today this was “an isolated incident”.

“It does not reflect the culture, discipline, decorum and conduct of SCDF officers and men, be it our front-line National Servicemen and regulars, or even our Operationally-Ready NSmen,” he told reporters in Joo Koon Crescent today, where firefighters put out a factory blaze. There were no reported injuries in the incident.

“As you can see in today’s fire, this is what we do day in, day out, putting ourselves in harm’s way, taking calculated risks to mitigate incidents, to minimise damage to property and save lives. This is SCDF.”

“We in SCDF are as perturbed”: on videos showing trainees behaving badly

A second video surfaced on Tuesday, showing SCDF personnel smearing shoe polish on the floor.

Speaking to the media at the scene of a firefighting operation in Joo Koon on Tuesday, SCDF COL Abdul Razak Abdul Raheem said investigations into the videos posted started yesterday and are still ongoing.

“We in SCDF are as perturbed as the online viewers and members of public on the matter,” he said. “But let me stress that this is an isolated incident of this nature. It does not reflect the culture, the discipline, the decorum and conduct of SCDF officers and men, be it our frontline NSFs and regulars or even our ORNSmen.”

“UNRULY BEHAVIOUR”: investigating video of personnel trashing dormitory

27 Apr 2015

SINGAPORE: The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) on Monday (Apr 27) said it is investigating a video clip, making the rounds on social media, which appears to show its men behaving badly.

“There is a short video clip being circulated online this evening which depicted unruly behaviour by a few SCDF personnel in a dormitory,” SCDF said in a statement posted on Facebook.

The expletive-laden video uploaded by a Facebook user Han Din shows men in SCDF uniform standing in a wrecked dormitory. “It’s the last day man. Look at the dorm. It’s a ruckus!” a man off camera declares.

At one point, one man blows smoke at the camera, and shortly after, another picks up an ironing board and flings it at a pile of furniture in the corner, to laughter from the person filming.
