ETS operation from KL to Padang Besar yet to be approved

KUALA LUMPUR: Confusion reigns over the actual launching date of KTM Berhad new Electric Train Service (ETS) operation from Kuala Lumpur to Padang Besar as Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) has yet to provide the green light. A daily newspaper reported last Thursday that KTM Berhad has announced the much anticipated ETS service would officially start from July 1, targeting to cater to the Hari Raya “balik kampung” period for northbound passengers. KTM was hoping to expedite the approval from SPAD to prepare for the Aidilfitri busy period but theSun understands that the matter is still far from being finalised. SPAD officials have informed theSun that there are several matters that need to be sorted out including commissioning and ensuring the safety aspects on the 329km electrified double track and the China-made electric trains. When contacted, SPAD chairman Tan Sri Syed Hamid Albar has confirmed that the July 1 launching date is doubtful. “They (KTM) cannot start until we commission their trains. It is true that we have not given the green light ,” said Syed Hamid. SPAD chief executive officer Mohd Nur Ismal Kamal said the targeted July 1 date was actually the extension of ETS service to the border from KL-Ipoh service using the current Korean-made trains with top speed of 140km/h. http://www.thesundaily.my/news/1473795 — theSundaily

KL-Padang Besar ETS to begin in Sept

People in Kedah and Perlis have every reason to be happy because come September, it will only take them 4 hours 15 minutes to reach Kuala Lumpur using the electric train service (ETS). Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB) chairman Nawawi Ahmad in confirming the matter to Bernama said the ETS will make use of the Padang Besar-Kuala Lumpur electrified double track. Although the ETS will officially begin in September, Nawawi, who is also Langkawi member of Parliament, said he hopes it would be operational a month earlier, in August. “We are in the midst of conducting various trials on the Padang Besar-Kuala Lumpur route, a journey which is expected to take four hours and 15 minutes. “There will be five stops along the Padang Besar-Kuala Lumpur route,” he told Bernama but did not mention the five stations involved. The high-speed passenger train from Padang Besar is expected to stop at Arau, Alor Setar, Bukit Mertajam, and end at KL Sentral station. http://www.kinibiz.com/story/corporate/158058/

Travelled from KL Central to Arau and back to KL Central on 30/8/15 and back on 1/9/15. Here I would like to highlight the followings:
Pleasant journey except too many stations stop.
The toilets – on couch E both cannot be lock on the way to Arau
Same couch both toilet were lock & cannot be used and have to go to couch B on way back to KL
The language used for operation of the toilet are all in English and wonder how on earth for some passenger to understand how to use it.
Lack of safety signage e.g to escape in case of fire and No smoking sign.
