15-year-old to join Chong Wei at SEA Games

Malaysia have named 15-year-old shuttler Goh Jin Wei and former world number one Lee Chong Wei in their badminton squad for next month’s South-East Asian (SEA) Games. However, twice Olympic silver medallist Lee will only feature in the men’s team event at the biennial Games for the 11-nation block which will be held in Singapore from June 5-16. Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) bosses said they wanted Lee, who will return to competition on Sunday following an eight-month doping ban, to play singles elsewhere. “We’re planning to send him to the US Open (June 16-21),” BAM technical director Morten Frost was quoted as saying by The Star today. “There is a clash of dates and we’ve to take into account the travelling time and jet lag.” The US Open will provide Lee with the opportunity to earn vital ranking points and help him move up from his current position of 45th in the world. http://www.malaysiakini.com/news/297430?hootPostID=55d3060dd802e2dab4ffb1e9ba9fbaf5 — Malay Mail Online Chong Wei ready for action in Sudirman Cup after eight-month hiatus Chong Wei whose world ranking has dropped from first to 45th in the Badminton World Federation (BWF) ranking since his suspension for a doping offence, will spearhead Malaysia’s challenge in China from May 10-17. …

Chong Wei: Stop speculation over identity of Cordyceps provider

A new question has now cropped up as to ‘who gave the national sportsman the dexamethasone-tainted Cordyceps capsules’. The person was speculated to be ‘the wife of an influential figure’ that had led to many people incorrectly pointing fingers at Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor. Lee, however, denied this when asked by the media, but declined to elaborate. … With his denial, the spotlight has now fallen on Toh Puan Ena Ling – the wife of former MCA president and ex-minister Tun Ling Liong Sik. But she, too, denied her involvement. Saying that she had known Lee for many years, she said she should not be implicated in the matter just because she played badminton and has a close relationship with the badminton player.

The wife of former MCA president Tun Dr Ling Liong Sik has come out to quash talk that she was the person who had given tainted cordyceps capsules to world badminton ace Datuk Lee Chong Wei, which resulted in the latter’s eight-month suspension by the Badminton World Federation (BWF). Toh Puan Ong Ee Nah told The China Press that while she and Lee were close friends, she was not the person that was alluded to in Lee’s recent doping case. The identity of the person has been the subject of rife speculation on social media after The Malaysian Insider revealed yesterday that capsules tainted with banned anti-inflammatory drug dexamethasone were given to him by the wife of a “very influential man in Malaysia”. – See more at: http://www.themalaysianinsider.com/malaysia/article/it-wasnt-me-says-wife-of-former-mca-chief-over-capsules-for-badminton-star#sthash.gw3pEymn.dpuf

Khairy: Chong Wei doesn’t want name of person who gave drug revealed

By Syed Jaymal Zahiid

KUALA LUMPUR, April 30 — National  badminton ace Datuk Lee Chong Wei has requested that the name of the person who gave him the drug that led to his eight-month suspension not be revealed, Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said today. The Rembau MP said this when asked by reporters if the government was planning to reveal the name of the person who gave Lee cordyceps, a herbal supplement. “Chong Wei has asked for the name not to be revealed and it doesn’t really affect anything. “There was no intent to supply him with dextamethasone,” he told a press conference here, referring to the banned substance which was found in Lee’s bloodstream. Dextamethasone is a drug that prevents inflammation.

Cordyceps is used to treat coughs, chronic bronchitis, respiratory disorders, kidney disorders, nighttime urination, male sexual problems, anemia, irregular heartbeat, high cholesterol, liver disorders, dizziness, weakness, ringing in the ears, unwanted weight loss, and opium addiction. Khairy suggested that cordyceps is harmless and that Lee’s ban by the Badminton World Federation was only caused by “tainted” capsules that he took prior to the doping test. “The person has been giving him cordyceps for many many years. It just so happens that this particular batch of cordyceps are tainted with dextamethasone,” he said. – See more at: http://www.themalaymailonline.com/malaysia/article/khairy-chong-wei-doesnt-want-name-of-person-who-gave-drug-revealed?utm_medium=twitter&utm_source=twitterfeed#sthash.vHcFPJPW.dpuf

Chong Wei doping case: Nutritionist insists made right call

By Haresh Deol

KUALA LUMPUR, April 30 — A nutritionist linked to Datuk Lee Chong Wei’s doping saga insists she made the right call when the national shuttler consulted her over cordyceps capsules he was taking. Sources in the National Sports Institute (NSI), however, said Chai Wen Jin’s decision of not informing her superiors about Lee’s supplements could land her in trouble. An insider who requested anonymity said Chai could be transferred to another department following the fiasco. “The possibility is there but she must be accorded the right to state her case. “She believed she made the right call. Let’s review the whole process. It is not right to simply accuse or blame someone. “Judging by what has been revealed so far and the verdict from the Badminton World Federation doping hearing panel, it is obvious Lee was ill-advised.” The cordyceps Lee took were reportedly not from NSI and not manufactured by a pharmaceutical company. It was given by an individual — increasing the risk of contamination. “Since she (Chai) knew the athlete had been using cordyceps for many years without any problems, she did not find it necessary to have the product tested,” the three-man panel said. The panel said the capsules were given to Lee by the “wife of a highly influential Malaysian”. – See more at: http://www.themalaymailonline.com/malaysia/article/chong-wei-doping-case-nutritionist-insists-made-right-call#sthash.uLF8tZSb.dpuf

Rosmah not to blame for Chong Wei’s woes on ban .

Speculation has been rife that the person responsible for the former world number one’s predicament is Rosmah Mansor, the wife of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak. Rosmah has often shown great support for Lee during tournaments.
However, Lee confirmed that it was not Rosmah who provided him with the tablets. “Yes. I can confirm it is not her. However, I am not in liberty to reveal the name of the person (who gave him the tablets),” he told Malaysiakini. “Now that there is an outcome from BWF (Badminton World Federation), I would like to put this episode  behind me and to focus on regaining my status and bring glory to my country,” he said. …
According to the 12-page BWF report, the wife would purchase cordyseps and have them ground and capsulated at a shop in Kuala Lumpur. Lee would consume two every morning. The report said Lee named the wife in camera to avoid having her face any dire consequences. The shop owner who treated the cordyseps acknowledged that there could be a risk of contamination, but did not give the BWF a statement over fears that it would affect his business. Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) officials were aware that Lee was taking the capsules after the wife begun sending them, but did not subject the capsules for testing. “It is worrying if he has received unsatisfactory anti-doping education from BAM or other sources and/or the focus on anti-doping security has been unsatisfactory,” the BWF report said. The BWF had found Lee guilty of having the non-performance enhancer dexamethasone in his system. The drug is normally used as an anti-inflammatory drug during the off-season.

Wife of ‘influential man’ gave Chong Wei banned drug, says report

The banned drug which resulted in Malaysian badminton star Datuk Lee Chong Wei getting an eight-month ban was given to him by the wife of a “very influential  man in Malaysia”, the Badminton World Federation’s (BWF) three-man anti-doping panel has revealed. A BWF report said around 2007 or 2008, the unnamed woman began giving Lee some of her own supply of pure Cordyceps capsules, which contained the banned anti-inflammatory drug dexamethasone, which she bought in raw whole form and had it powdered and  capsulated at a store in Kuala Lumpur. The report said she began to send Lee her Cordyceps capsules on a regular basis as a gift.

“The athlete (Lee) does not wish to identify the lady by name because he fears the consequences for her, if she is associated with his doping case,” the 13-page report signed by panel chairman Rune B. Hansen said. The report, however, said Lee revealed the woman’s name in an “in-camera” session of the hearing, in the presence of the three panel members and a Malaysian lawyer. “In the opinion of the panel, this strengthened his trustworthiness,” the report added. The report said a lawyer, Song Wei Kar, in March last year visited the shop in Kuala Lumpur where the woman had her supply of pure Cordyceps ground and capsulated. The proprietor confirmed to Song that he had ground and capsulated the pure Cordyceps. However, he did not want to give a statement for fear that it would adversely affect his business. The report said the proprietor acknowledged that his treatment of the Cordyceps involved a potential contamination risk. Lee told the anti-doping panel that he had consumed two Cordyceps capsules every morning in August 2014, including the morning of the semi-finals of the BWF World Championships. “How the contamination occurred is not known for sure, but most likely it occurred during the process of grinding the raw Cordyceps into powder and putting this powdered Cordyceps into the gelatin capsules in the shop in Kuala Lumpur,” the report said. – See more at: http://www.themalaysianinsider.com/malaysia/article/wife-of-influential-man-gave-chong-wei-banned-drug-says-report?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter#sthash.9EDILgDF.dpuf

Lee Chong Wei doping case takes new turn

By Haresh Deol

He later obtained the capsules on regular basis as gift from the “wife of a very influential man in Malaysia”, the panel said. Malay Mail understands the woman is the wife of a former minister. “Around 2007 or 2008, this lady gave the athlete some of her own supply of pure cordyceps. She buys them in raw whole form and arranges for it to be powdered and capsulated at the same store in Kuala Lumpur,” the judgment read. Lee revealed the identity of the woman to the panel “in-camera”. The panel, in arriving at its decision to impose an eight-month sanction on Lee for violation of an anti-doping violation, argued: “The athlete accepted cordyceps for about seven years from a private person without any knowledge or control regarding how the capsules had been treated and capsulated. They were given to him in containers without label or description. “The single comforting statement of his nutritionist many years ago is not a sufficient excuse for consuming the capsules for years”. Dr Ramlan said Chai had not informed him about her discussion with Lee regarding the health supplement. “Perhaps she didn’t pursue the matter as it (supplement) came from a VIP,” he said. “No one can absolve themselves from what happened. We forbid athletes from taking anything unless prescribed by NSI. We work under full trust and need to know everything. “We want to talk to Lee. We do not wish to prolong the matter and will continue to assist him as he gets back into the sport.” When asked if cordyceps is approved by the Health Ministry, Dr Ramlan said: “I doubt it. I need to look at the product and its packaging.” Dr Ramlan said NSI will initiate a probe to identify the parties who worked closely with Lee. – See more at: http://www.themalaymailonline.com/malaysia/article/lee-chong-wei-doping-takes-new-turn?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter#sthash.BiOD0G0i.dpuf

KJ: Chong Wei took ‘tainted’ herbal remedy

zc National shuttler Lee Chong Wei failed a drug test last year because he consumed a herbal supplement that was contaminated, said Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin. Khairy said the Badminton World Federation (BWF) hearing panel had concluded that there were traces of dexamethasone, an anti-inflammatory steroid, on the gelatin capsule shell containing cordyceps, used by Lee. “Lee has been taking cordyceps since he was 13, because his family believed that it was beneficial for this health,” said Khairy at a press conference today. He said Lee had complied with instructions by his nutritionist at the National Sports Institute, who had deemed the cordycep capsules to be safe. “It was not necessary to test the product as long as it was ‘pure Cordyceps’. “(Therefore), Lee was not, as of 30th August 2014, aware of any case in the world in which an Adverse Analytical Finding was caused by the contamination of gelatin capsules. “This is not regarding the supplement itself,” he said. http://www.malaysiakini.com/news/296571

Sources: Eight-month ban for Chong Wei

KUALA LUMPUR: It is learnt that shuttler Lee Chong Wei has been served with an eight-month ban over a doping violation. The good news is that the sentence will be backdated from Aug 30 and he will be eligible to play in competitions from May 1. Chong Wei will therefore be able to compete in three upcoming majors – the Sudirman Cup in Dongguan from May 10-17, the SEA Games in Singapore in June and the World Championships in Jakarta in August. http://www.thestar.com.my/News/Nation/2015/04/27/Chong-wei-8-month-ban/

 …
The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) have filed a request to the Badminton World Federation (BWF), in order to speed up the process of unveiling Lee Chong Wei’s doping scandal verdict. The independent panel could not derive a verdict during the hearing that was held earlier this month, before announcing that the verdict would be released after three weeks. But with the Sudirman Cup and SEA Games edging closer, BAM are keen to finalize their plans for both tournament, and knowing LCW’s fate would allow them to plan his schedule as well. “If possible, we want Chong Wei to be involved in the Sudirman Cup tournament and the SEA Games. We will take the initiative so that we don’t have to wait up to three weeks.”

At the sidelines of a mobile phone launch in Malaysia on Friday, the 32-year-old told Malaysian media: “I’ll only play in the team event as the BAM (Badminton Association of Malaysia) plans to send me for a tournament which will clash with the SEA Games’ (singles) competition. “If I’m eligible to compete, the team will be counting on me to deliver the first point. Report: Chong Wei verdict could take several days

AMSTERDAM: Datuk Lee Chong Wei’s long-awaited doping hearing opened before a three-member Badminton World Federation (BWF) panel on Saturday in Amsterdam, where the former world No. 1 has vowed to clear his name. “The hearing is starting” at a hotel near Schiphol International Airport, the official, who declined to be named, told AFP. Chong Wei’s London-based lawyer Mike Morgan refused to comment before the hearing started behind closed doors, with the press being barred access to the hotel. The BWF also declined to comment, with the federation’s Gayle Alleyne telling AFP: “At the appropriate time, BWF will communicate as required.” However, the official said no verdict was expected on Saturday, as the panel needed several days to reach a finding and write their report. “It’s a highly technical issue,” the official added.

KUALA LUMPUR, April 11 — The Badminton World Federation (BWF) has banned the media from covering the hearing of Datuk Lee Chong Wei’s doping case currently taking place at the Sheraton Airport Hotel in Amsterdam. According to a Berita Harian reporter at the location, BWF’s operations director Stuart Borrie instructed all media personnel who were crowding outside the Saturn Room at the hotel to leave the area as they would not be allowed to snap pictures or take videos of the hearing session. “You (the media) cannot wait here, I have informed the hotel security and the entrance to this room will be locked.

If you are not staying at this hotel, you are not permitted to be here,” Borrie was quoted saying in the Malay daily’s report. The daily added that about five minutes after Borrie spoke to the media, a member of the hotel management conveyed the same message. KUALA LUMPUR: Former world number one Datuk Lee Chong Wei, who is awaiting a doping hearing, has dropped to 16th spot in the new world ranking released by the Badminton World Federation (BWF) today. The 31-year old Chong Wei had topped the list in Dec last year with 84,631 points after securing 10,200 points from his second place in the 2014 BWF World Championship in Copenhagen, Denmark from Aug 25 to 31. Chong Wei, who is currently serving a suspension for a doping violation, could face a ban of up to two years if found guilty, which would eventually end his carrier as he has already announced his retirement after the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics in Brazil. Chong Wei’s absence from the All England, Indian Open and the significant Malaysian Open had without a doubt resulted in the drop.

NEW DELHI, March 24 — The defence team of Lee Chong Wei will be relying on the argument that the Malaysian national shuttler did not knowingly take the banned substance dexamethasone, at the hearing of the doping case on April 11 in Amsterdam. Malaysian counsel B. Jadadish Chandra said lead counsel Mike Morgan, a specialist on sports law based in London hired by the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM), and his legal team were also ready to put forward the argument that dexamethasone was not a performance-enhancing drug. He said the drug was used to relieve muscle pain and that during his 12-year professional career, Chong Wei had his blood screened 124 times. “We are also going to put forward the argument that Chong Wei is at the tail-end of his professional career and no way would he want to mar his reputation by taking the banned substance,” Jadadish Chandra told Bernama in an interview here. …

London-based lawyer Morgan had represented Manchester City footballer Yaya Toure and few other sport personalities from the United states in doping hearings. Speaking to reporters in Bangkok, Lee said he was not at fault and would wait for a BWF panel decision next month. “I am very confident that this case is not my fault,” Lee told reporters at a news conference for an upcoming exhibition match in Thailand. “I must stay strong. Everybody has been messaging me to stay strong. I’m waiting to hear good results next month.”

Lee Chong Wei, “My case should be an eye opener for others.”

EXCLUSIVE: Learn from this, says Chong Wei

KUALA LUMPUR: Lee Chong Wei has learnt a painful lesson from his doping scandal. And the 32-year-old shuttler, who is currently restricted to training at the Juara Stadium in Bukit Kiara, hoped his experience would serve as an example for others so that no one would undergo the same ordeal. His advice is simple – always be careful and know what is being administered in your body. … Chong Wei said that if he had a chance to turn back the clock, he would have gone for a medical screening before the World Championships. “I trusted the doctor completely … after all, I was just getting treatment for my injury. “I am not an expert in all these medical stuff. I just know the number of feathers in a shuttle and what tension is needed on a racquet,” said Chong Wei after sparring with the national shuttlers on Monday. “Now, as I look back, I would have surely done a medical test before going to Copenhagen. “It’s too late now and all I can do is wait for the hearing. — He pointed out that Chong Wei had, throughout his career, passed countless doping tests in the international arena, including at the Olympics in Athens in 2004 and Beijing in 2008 when Misbun was a singles coach. Misbun rallies behind Chong Wei, reminds all of shuttler’s great contribution

Former national badminton coach and player Datuk Misbun Sidek has made an impassioned appeal for the public to throw their support behind world number one Datuk Lee Chong Wei who has been provisionally suspended for alleged anti-doping violations.

“We should remember that he has contributed greatly to badminton and we can never repay him (enough),” Misbun said today.

“Players like him need our support,” added Misbun, who coached Chong Wei for several years, including during Lee’s gold medal triumph at the All England Open Championships in 2010. …

“In each competition, he would have been tested twice or thrice. He took his doping tests seriously and he was cleared before.

“Now maybe because of his injury this has happened,” Misbun told reporters after leading a badminton talent camp for youngsters at the Penang Youth and Sports Complex in Batu Uban. …

Misbun today said it was important to keep Chong Wei’s morale strong so that if he became a coach, he could pass on his knowledge to the next generation. …

He said Chong Wei, who is already 32, had been put under pressure because of the issue while approaching the end of an accomplished playing career. – November 16, 2014. https://my.news.yahoo.com/misbun-rallies-behind-chong-wei-reminds-shuttler-great-062148904.htmlIT WON’T BE THE BADMINTON COURT BUT THE CIVIL COURT!

Khairy smashes Razif Sidek for Chong Wei allegations

KUALA LUMPUR: Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin had lambasted former national shuttler Razif Sidek for alleging that Datuk Lee Chong Wei had been using the banned dexamethasone substance for a long time. Khairy said that the allegation was unsubstantiated and urged people not to speculate until the hearing before the Badminton World Federation (BWF), which was expected to be held early next month. “This is a serious allegation which I find disturbing,” he said at a press conference after giving a talk at the Retirement Fund Incorporated (KWAP) Leadership Series Wednesday. Khairy said if Razif wanted to make such a serious allegation, he must show evidence. He said that Lee had asked his lawyer to draft a letter to demand that Razif retract the allegation and to not repeat it. http://www.thestar.com.my/News/Nation/2014/11/12/Khairy-Sidek-Chong-wei-smash/?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter — Rakyat Post

Razif claims Chong Wei using banned substance for a long time

Former national shuttler Razif Sidek claimed that world No. 1 Datuk Lee Chong Wei has been using for a long time the banned substance like the one he was reported to have tested positive for in the recent doping scandal. Razif made this claim via Malay daily Kosmo! where he alleged that many badminton officers within the Badminton Association Malaysia (BAM) were aware of what Chong Wei was doing. He also alleged that Chong Wei had hired a foreign doctor for that purpose. However, Razif claimed that no one dared to say anything due to Chong Wei’s credibility as a world badminton champion. “Before this, it was hard to say anything because there was no concrete proof. But now he is caught. I don’t want to make accusations, but this has been going on for a while,” Razif claimed. “Senior players and officers knew about this. In fact, the junior players had gotten wind of it, but they realise that this athlete is a national hero. “I was made to understand that he has been using this drug and had even hired a doctor to come here (Malaysia) just so he can use the banned substance. “Haven’t I said it before (about Chong Wei being mixed up in the use of banned substance)? I am not one to make blind accusations. But this information has been made known by several individuals in the association,” Razif claimed, as quoted by Kosmo! http://www.therakyatpost.com/news/2014/11/11/razif-claims-chong-wei-using-banned-substance-long-time/#.VGHgHPtfc7I.twitterAs expected, BWF suspends world No. 1 Lee Chong Wei over doping violation. Dexamethasone administered to Chong Wei by specialist clinic, says Khairy

..
PUTRAJAYA: The banned substance dexamethasone was not administered to Datuk Lee Chong Wei by doctors at the National Sports Institute (ISN) but a specialist sports clinic in Kuala Lumpur as part of stem cell treatment for an injury, said Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin. “Dexamethasone is allowed for out-of-competition athletes seeking treatment for injuries. “Traces remain in the body for 10 days but in this case, we are not sure why it lasted longer than that,” he told reporters after attending the launching of the GeNexter Carnival 2014 in Putrajaya, Sunday. Chong Wei had reportedly suffered a thigh injury and sought stem cell treatment in July. Khairy said it was the National Sports Institute that referred Chong Wei to the clinic. …

Chong Wei finds it easier to beat opponents on the court

KUALA LUMPUR: World No.1 Datuk Lee Chong Wei has finally broken his silence, saying that he is not a cheat and the past month has been beyond unbearable for him. … The 32-year-old was tested positive for dexamethasone during a doping test at the World Championships in Copenhagen on Aug 30. The B sample of his urine also turned out to be positive. Stressing that he was not a cheat, he said: “I do not use drugs to enhance my performance. “Maintaining a good name in the international stage is more important to me. “I have worked hard all my life and I do not take shortcuts. “I have been a World No.1 player for so long and have gone through over 100 doping tests. I know the danger of drugs. “I do not even drink when I go out with friends – to be very sure of what I consume. Top shuttlers may have taken Chinese herbal injections – former ace Razif Sidek on Chong Wei doping scandal

PETALING JAYA – Former national badminton player Razif Sidek said he heard some three years ago that some badminton players were given injection of a kind of Chinese herbal medicine, but he could not be sure whether the herbal medicine contains banned ingredients. Athletes should know what not to take Razif said during an interview with Sin Chew Daily that he had come under attack for making such revelation, and as such would refrain from giving more statements on this matter. “As sportsmen, they should know what (drugs) to take and what not to take. Perhaps they don’t know the full names of the medicines they take, they must be aware of the consequences of using banned drugs. Sometimes when they get injured and want prompt recovery, they will seek an alternative opinion. I can understand their moods.” He told Sin Chew Daily if the use of banned drugs is proven, the country’s international image will suffer a further blow, and people would start talking bad things about our athletes. “If in the future they win a game, people will say they have used banned drugs. And of course they will get the ridicule as well if they lose the game: they lose because they do not use the drugs.” He hoped the authorities would seriously resolve this problem to salvage the reputation of our national athletes. … Former Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) high performance director James Selvaraj, nevertheless, disagreed with what Razif claimed, saying he had not heard such rumors himself during his stint at BAM. He questioned Razif why he had not exposed this earlier and would wait until now. “Why didn’t he say it since he knew it earlier? people are starting to make guesses now and I don’t want to give my own comments on something I thought I knew.” … Unbelievable Former Chinese national badminton captain Li Weiguo said judging from Lee Chong Wei’s performances at the BWF Championships and Asian Games, he didn’t look like someone who had used the banned drugs. He said during an interview with the Daily New paper of China that if Lee had used the drugs, his physical state would not have been like that. He said it was unlikely for Lee to have used the banned drugs because so far he had not heard anything official from the authorities. http://malaysia-chronicle.com/index.php?option=com_k2&view=item&id=385341:top-shuttlers-may-have-taken-chinese-herbal-injections-former-ace-razif-sidek-on-chong-wei-doping-scandal&Itemid=2#axzz3H3F29HqR

WAKE UP KHAIRY! Urgent probe needed on doping scandal

To many Malaysians, although Datuk Lee Chong Wei may not be that perfect, he is nevertheless a national athlete idolised by many. … Although Malaysian athletes seldom fail the doping tests, some sporadic incidents still take place. Three female athletes failed the doping test during the Sukma earlier this year, including Jelinie who had been named the ‘best female athlete’ for winning two gold medals. If Lee Chong Wei’s urine sample ‘B’ cannot get past the test, it will mean we have five doping incidents within a short span of two months. This is something very serious and should not be overlooked by us. It doesn’t matter whether the drugs were taken out of one’s own will or unintentionally, a positive result is something we should rightly feel ashamed of. As such, it is imperative for the authorities to launch prompt investigations to clear the doubts. – Sin Chew Daily http://malaysia-chronicle.com/index.php?option=com_k2&view=item&id=385052:wake-up-khairy-urgent-probe-needed-on-doping-scandal&Itemid=2#axzz3H1WrKE6B — Malaysian Insider

Amid doping-scandal reports, a light for Chong Wei on Twitter

Clinging to hope, Malaysians on Twitter reacted with disbelief at the possibility of a doping scandal involving badminton hero, Datuk Lee Chong Wei, who awaits a final confirmation pending test results of a second urine sample. … Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin refused to name the athlete involved, saying that the “B sample” was still being tested. He also refused to state the type of drug used. … By then, speculation that Lee was involved had gone viral and a pall of gloom hung over some social media users who questioned the news and hoped it was untrue. “If news about Lee Chong Wei doping is true I’d be pretty upset,” tweeted user @aaziefkhalid.
