Man slashes grandma to death after finding no food at home
A man slashed to death his grandmother as well as injured his wife and father-in-law in Kampung Pagar, Pos Lejang Lipis, near here, yesterday.
Lipis district police chief Supt Azry Akmar Ayob said the incident happened when the suspect, aged 32, went to his grandmother’s house to eat, but was told there was no food.
“Instead, she (grandmother) told him that she wanted to take him for treatment as he was aggressive, (but) the suspect went into the house and took a machete which he then swung across the grandmother’s neck and back,” he told reporters in Kuantan today.
Azry said the suspect, who is self-employed, then ran to his house, about 600 metres away, and slashed his father-in-law, who then fought back and was able to apprehend the suspect with the help of a villager.
Prior to that, he said the suspect had injured his wife, aged 21, with embers from the stove when she went to check on him, who was at his sister’s house, after being informed that her husband was unconscious.

Bus driver fined for hurting woman who didn’t have change
KUALA LUMPUR: A bus driver was fined RM500 in default two months’ jail by the magistrate’s court here today for hurting a female passenger who did not have small change when she got into the bus.
Magistrate Erry Shahriman Nor Aripin handed down the sentence on D. Permal 52, after he pleaded guilty to injuring Maria Zosima Traquina Ronquillo, a Filipino housewife.
He was charged with committing the offence at Pasar Seni, Jalan Hang Kasturi, here at 12.45pm, on November 30.
Based on the facts of the case, the victim wanted to take the bus from Pasar Seni to Bangsar and handed over RM5 for the fare to the accused. Seeing the RM5, the accused got angry and screamed at the victim “get down if you have no small change”.
He also slapped her left shoulder and shoved her causing her to fall and injure her left shoulder and arm.
Deputy public prosecuotr Najwa Bistamam appeared for the prosecution while the accused was unrepresented.

Malaysia to fall into ‘stupid state’ before Talibanism digs in, says activist
KUALA LUMPUR, June 13 ― Pointing to the recent social media frenzy over the “vagina shape” of a champion Malaysian gymnast at the SEA Games, Datin Paduka Marina Mahathir said the country was in greater danger of descending into stupidity before becoming a Taliban state.
The prominent social activist blamed the country’s political leaders for fuelling the pettiness of some Muslims who had panned gold medallist Farah Ann Abdul Hadi for purportedly showing her aurat with her figure-hugging sports attire.
“No, I don’t think we’ll be a Taliban state yet; we’ll be a stupid state first,” Marina said at a panel discussion at the Cooler Lumpur Festival here today, when asked if the public outrage indicates that Malaysia will become a Taliban state eventually.
“The trouble is, our top leadership, we do have small and petty-minded people. They see these leaders saying things ― ‘bocor’ lah, ‘ni lah’, crosses on ‘telekungs’ for instance ― nobody laughs at them.
“In another country, people would point at the politicians and say, ‘What a dumb thing to say’. But here they don’t,” she added.

KUALA LUMPUR, June 12—Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin today told detractors attacking SEA Games gold medallist Farah Ann Abdul Hadi that they have no right to judge her attire.
The minister took to Twitter this evening to respond to reports of Malaysians on the Internet who were attacking the gymnastics champion over her outfit at the just-ended games, which they claimed exposed her “aurat” or parts of a Muslim’s body that must be clothed.
“In gymnastics Farah wowed the judges and brought home gold. In her deeds only the Almighty judges her. Not you. Leave our athletes alone,” Khairy wrote on Twitter.

KUALA LUMPUR, June 12 — Malaysian gymnast Farah Ann Abdul Hadi has received a slew of criticisms from Muslims who attacked her for showing her “aurat” and the “shape of her vagina” in a leotard despite winning a gold medal at the SEA Games.
Several Facebook users slammed the 21-year-old Malay woman on Buletin TV3’s Facebook page that had uploaded Wednesday a photograph of her in the gymnastics outfit, along with a caption that announced her winning gold in floor exercise in artistic gymnastics.
“Until she’s dead too people can see the shape of her vagina and aurat,” wrote a Facebook user called Muhammad Nur Salam.
Facebook user called Amir Muhd said: “Just strip off your clothes lah… let everyone see.”
Another Facebook user said Farah Ann’s dressing was even worse than non-Muslims’ in terms of showing her “aurat”.

Other Muslim Facebook users, however, have come to Farah Ann’s defence.
“So disgusting reading these religious comments from the so-called future members of heaven… just ignore them… Congratulations Farah Ann, it’s not easy to get a gold medal for Malaysia,” wrote Dina Nida.
A Facebook user called Siti Kasim congratulated the young athlete, saying: “Ignore those retards who can’t see beyond their limited brain capacity! Keep up the good work! We are proud of you!”

…A grandmother in Malaysia was slammed by netizens for chaining her four-year-old grandson to a road signpost outside their house in Perak as punishment.
The boy, whose parents are working in Singapore, was punished for not doing his homework after being told several times, Sin Chew Daily reported.
A passer-by, who saw the boy chained to the post at about noon on Friday, took photos and posted them on social media, reported The Star.
When contacted, the 54-year-old woman denied that she tortured the boy. She said she merely chained him for 10 minutes and that this was the first time she had punished him this way.

Tapah district police chief, Superintendent Sum Sak Din Keliaw, told the New Straits Times that policemen went to the boy’s house and questioned the grandmother after they were alerted.
He said the woman admitted that she had chained him out of anger.
“Checks made on the boy showed that he was not harmed. He also admitted that he was punished for not doing his homework,” he said, adding that the boy was not beaten by his grandmother.
Investigations are ongoing.

The driver of the car was given a traffic ticket for not wearing a seat belt and for driving with an expired driver’s licence.
GEORGE TOWN: It was a classic case of “like father like son” when a duo assaulted and spat at a traffic cop for issuing a traffic summons to the driver during a routine police road block Tuesday night.
The duo, age 31 and 63, have now been remanded to assist police investigations on them under Section 353 of the Penal Code for allegedly obstructing civil servants from performing their duties.
In the approximately 9.50pm incident, a traffic policeman stopped a car at a police checkpoint in Jalan Patani upon noticing that the driver was allegedly not wearing his car seat belt.
Following a snap check, the policeman also found that the driver’s driving licence had expired.
Despite pleas from the driver and his father against being issued a traffic summons, the cop persisted at which point both became angry and apparently started swearing at him.
It is alleged that the father turned aggressive and spat at the policeman’s face while his son slapped the cop on his left cheek.
Looking shell shocked, the cop’s colleagues, who were checking other motorists, rushed to his aid upon seeing the commotion and detained the father and son.

A 60-year-old man was made to stand at a park in Penang on Wednesday morning with a sign denouncing him as a thief.
The man stood in the open at the Cherok To’kun Forest Reserve for an hour with a sign which read “I am a THIEF! I steal and damage things from Tokun” hanging around his neck, newspaper The Star reported.
A group of hikers, who suspected him of vandalising and stealing things from the park’s rest area, caught him.
Cherok To’kun Hikers Club chairman Low Boon Leng said a series of thefts and vandalism had taken place at the park over the past two years.
Frustrated by the incidents, the club members installed a hidden camera at the rest stop last week.

OCT 12 — A rally organised by Suaram today at Speakers’ Square in Penang to protest against the Sedition Act was disrupted by a group of counter protesters who outnumbered the activists, according to a Malaysiakini report.
The news portal reported that members of the group including those from Persatuan Mukabuku Pulau Pinang, who wore t-shirts with the words, “Pertahankan Akta Hasutan” (Defend the Sedition Act) reportedly shouted “Balik! Balik!” to chase away the anti-Sedition Act activists.
Those who were chased away included Suaram’s Ong Jing Cheng, Prema Devaraj and Bersih’s Toh Kin Woon.
Malaysiakini reported that Jing Cheng suffered the worse harassment and a scuffle nearly broke out.
A member of Persatuan Mukabuku Pulau Pinang used a loud hailer to proclaim that “as long as the group (anti-Sedition Act activists) is around, the Sedition Act will continue.”

Jing Cheng was harassed the worst, with a scuffle nearly breaking out.

A blogger has attacked the actions of a purdah-wearing Malay woman in joining the DAP, saying she should have become a prostitute instead.
The writer, who calls himself “KuntaKinte Malaysia”, slammed the woman, who is known as Melati, claiming that her decision to become a DAP member was akin to selling herself and her religion just for the riches offered.
In a posting entitled “Melati, Lebih Baik Jadi Pelacur Dari Sertai DAP”, the writer said the actions of Muslim girls or any Muslim youth in joining the DAP was actually strengthening the party’s efforts to weaken the role and position of Islam in the country.
“A prostitute who sells herself would not decay the position of Islam in the country, but those who join the DAP are helping them destroy Islam in Malaysia.
“The reality is, it is more noble to be a prostitute who sells herself for a mouth of rice, than being those in tudung and purdah who ‘sell themselves’ to the DAP for the riches of the world until it weakens Islam’, he said in a website, http://www.mykmu.net.

‘I wear a veil, and I am with DAP’
The devout Muslim is covered in a veil, which only exposes her eyes. She has penned a novel, which raised eyebrows due to its erotic elements.
Among others, the book Pelacur Kelas Pertama (High Class Prostitute), purportedly based on a true life incident, is about marital sex abuse.
And now, the 22-year-old Universiti Selangor (Unisel) graduate is bound to raise the controversy bar a notch higher with her decision to join DAP.
In an interview with Malaysiakini today, Jamila Rahim, who writes under the pseudonym Melati Rahim, revealed her reasons for joining a party, whose detractors never tire of branding as a threat to the position of Malays and Islam.
“If you look at the DAP constitution, it places humanism and human rights as its main thrusts.
“In Islam, humanism is one of the core factors. So DAP is closer to the concept of justice as prescribed by Islam. And Islam is my main principle in life,” she said.

警察来后，并没有替我解决问题，还让Allianz 的拖车员走了。和那班人有说有笑的。我已经清楚表白我的意愿，也告诉警察我朋友被他们打，可是警察并没有警告他们，反而问我要怎样先解决问题，我一个人被五六个印度人和两个华人call man 包围着，一直要我让他们tow我的车。我问警察，为什么你来了，你没帮助我，你怎么和他们像朋友一样？他们那么凶，打我朋友，为什么好像什么事都没有，警察只是说，他们打你的朋友，等下你去lapor 啦。现在你让他们拖你的车先去警察局报案。我说他们拖我的车，我的车就一定被他们做了，警察说没事，他们不会的。如果他们会，你找我。在没有办法之下，唯有让他们拖我的车去警察局，到了警察局，那个打人的印度人，看着我做report, report好了自己直接就拿去Sargent 哪里，自己叫我进Sargent 的房间，还站在我旁边，让Sargent 替我写report, 我忍不住，大声问Sargent, 为什么他能在这里？Sargent 看了他一眼，说我你让他拿report进来的嘛，我说：他自己拿的！然后Sargent 才叫他出去。他看见我很委屈的样子，问我发生什么事，我一五一十告诉他。他说要惩罚这些人，一定要lapor,不lapor警察也做不了什么事，而且我们一定要去bukit Aman lapor,如果不是，是没有用的。我说竟然我在警察局，你可不可以让他将我的车放下？他竟然说你们insurance 的东西，他们没有插手。还有很详细的对话，我不多说，总而言之，他让我觉得，他们真的帮不上忙。

现在我不知道我的车会怎样，可是经过这件事，如果有一天，你发生了意外，你一定要做的事情，是拍下现场的照片，另外车主的ic和license 之后，如果你的车子还勉强可以驾，立刻离开现场，到最近的警察局。如果你的车子不能动，将车里重要的东西拿着，你必须搭车自己先离开现场，到警察局等候或report. 因为警察说，如果你车子在，人不在，拖车的拿你没办法。
I got an accident yesterday night (9/9/14) with no injury, but I have to share my experience, if one day it happened to u, u might know how to deal with it.
When the accident occurred, a Chinese call man approached me, I remembered some stories I heard before, I knew I shouldn’t deal with the call man. I told them I have my own tow company and my car going to send in to Allianz panel only. While I was waiting for my friend and tow truck to come, a town truck from other company arrived together with few Indian men.
The call man said he can tow my car to Allianz panel too which is in Sg Buloh, give them the business. But I wanted to send my car back to Cycle & Carriage (C&C).
Shortly afterwards Allianz tow truck arrived, but the Indian tow man wouldn’t allow him to tow my car, he threatened the Allianz tow man, either he pays him RM1500 to settle, or they’ll beat him, and then they warned my friend not to give too much of opinion. Since they don’t allow the tow truck to tow my car, my friend hopped into the car trying to drive away my car maybe to the nearest police station, the Indian drove their car and blocked the door, commanded my friend to get off the car, he is not the car owner he can’t touch the car. I had to call police for the rescue.
Two police cars came, the Indian tow man still make my friend punched in the chest, blaming him calling the police. I have told the police everything even my friend was beaten by them, they told me go to report. They don’t even warn these gangster to stay away from us but I was surrounded by 5, 6 Indian & the 2 Chinese call men, still persuading me to let them tow my car. I told the police to help but he told me, your Allianz tow truck left. Allianz tow service called me on the phone; he said tow man was warned to leave by the Indian. I felt so helpless, I even asked the police: why u r so nice to them? Y u are like friend to them, they are so fierce here and you couldn’t help me, u even let my tow truck left, he just smiled to me and said nothing will happen, just let them tow my car to police station first, don’t sign any paper and I’m going to be fine, if not I can take down his number, he can help anytime. Well…..of course he was gone right after we arrived police station.
At the police station the Indian seems to know everyone so well, he gave me form to fill, he made me sit down report and he took my report and go straight to Sergeant’s room, called me to the room, I was sat down with him standing beside me, interviewed by the Sergeant, I can’t hold no more and I said loudly to the Sergeant, kenapa dia boleh ada di sini???? He said u let him pass me the report, I thought u want him to be around, I said NO, he did everything by himself, then he asked the man to leave the room. He saw me so depressed and asked me what happened, I told him everything. He said the only thing we can do is to report to Bukit Aman, even if we report to them, they can’t do much, I wonder why they can’t do much, aren’t them also police? A police can’t command the tow man to give me back my car? He told me it’s your right not to let them tow your car, ya I know my right, but I don’t have my right with these gangsters. Allianz tow service called me again, they are being very helpful in this incident, called me many times, even called to the panel to ask the boss to release our car, but the Allianz panel said they don’t know these people.
Once again, I felt so helpless…..the police can’t help, then who? To leave the police station, I have to let them tow my car. The police said u report tomorrow, and police will take action. He taught me what I should do. But I really don’t understand, why tomorrow? Why not action now? Why I’m not protected by the police?
The call man asked me to sign the document; I told them I will sign when I go to the panel tomorrow to make sure my car is there. They don’t let us go. I called the Sergeant, he only said to us: Do what u should do and what u shouldn’t, u have your right. Finally I had to fill up the form but with no signature.
My advice to you if u encountered the same next time, u video or photo all the evidence, if your car still can drive, leave the scene and go to the nearest police station ASAP. If your car cannot move, you remove your stuff from the car and take a taxi to leave the scene ASAP too. As long as the car owner is not there, they can’t do anything.

RM250 for a ride to hospital
CLAIMS have surfaced on social media over audio recordings of an ambulance driver of a government hospital demanding RM250 from a family for a ride to the hospital, Harian Metro reported.
The incident happened on Aug 31 when a family member made an emergency call after their mother fell and became unconscious.
When the ambulance arrived at their house, the family was surprised when the driver demanded payment to send the woman to the hospital in Kuala Lumpur.
A family member then drove her to the hospital in a car.
He then sought an explanation from the ambulance driver when they arrived at the hospital.
The reply was shocking. The man said he was just an ambulance driver and the money was not for him alone.
“I have to divide it with four others and that means RM50 per person, which is not expensive at all,” the driver was recorded to have said.

Ten dogs feared poisoned in Bukit Bintang car park

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 11 — Many Malaysians were appalled by an online video in which a man could be seen “washing” a puppy in a washing machine in Hong Kong recently, but here, a more terrible act of animal cruelty has taken place when ten dogs were found poisoned in a Bukit Bintang car park last week.

The pack had made the car park their home for almost five years, and a group of office workers, who had been caring for them regularly, were distraught to learn of their death.
At the car park there is a small abandoned building with empty cages, old newspapers, a container of biscuits and a few unopened tins of wet dog food — remnants of the home that the workers had provided for the dogs.
“Recently, one of our colleagues noticed City Hall officers in the car park chasing a dog,” said a worker from another office, who wished to be known as Choi.
“That colleague immediately called the rest of us and we negotiated with the officers to give us more time to relocate the dogs,” she said.
“We also met with the person who had complained about the dogs and explained the situation.”
On Thursday, the volunteers were shocked when they found two of the dogs dead under some abandoned cars at the car park.
On Friday, they found the carcasses of another six, followed by two more on Saturday.
The group managed to send three dogs to a veterinary surgeon, who managed to save them.
A chicken head and a bluish substance, suspected to be poison, were found near the carcasses.
A few dead crows, believed to have consumed the poisoned food, were also found nearby.

Ex-senator’s rape remark sparks Twitter storm
Umno’s former senator Akbar Ali has sparked a Twitter storm afte he made a rape remark against PKR lawyer Latheefa Koya.
Akbar, who appeared to take offence at Latheefa’s advocacy against the Sedition Act, said he wouldn’t rape her even if there was no law against it.
“Even if I’m given unlimited freedom by your goodself holier than thou, I won’t rape you,” he said in a Twitter posting to Latheefa.
At this, Latheefa responded: “What is wrong with you people?”
Akbar’s comment invited a torrent of criticism and he subsequently tried to defend himself by saying: “Did I say I want to rape? Please read.”
However, netizens continued to slam him, stating that he should not have taken rape lightly and used it to attack political opponents.
“What kind of cowardly misogynist are u to suggest rape in an argument over sedition? shame on you,” said lawyer Eric Paulsen.

Another lawyer, Michelle Yesudas, described Akbar’s comment as an attempt at fame.
“Yesterday he was a random Umno unknown dude, today a giant misogynist creep,” she said.

CLEAR, CLEAN DRINKING WATER IS SO ESSENTIAL BUT IT MUST ALSO BE CHEAP!
Gone are the days when you drank straight from the pipe.
There is also little time for boiling it before drinking it.
You could buy bottled water but it is an expensive option. It is definitely not a long term solution as it is NOT CHEAP. At 70sen-90sen for 500ml, it’s not affordable in large amounts.
This is cheap, perhaps the cheapest. The water vending machine is the answer to our drinking and cooking water needs!
Water vending machines are found in office and residential buildings and universities or colleges. It costs only about 20 sen a litre.
However, it may not be clean even if it is clear and cheap!

Anger over drinking water with faecal bacteria goes viral
PETALING JAYA: Netizens have expressed outrage over the finding of faecal bacteria in drinking water sold from vending machines.
The reactions ranged from worry to disgust, with some sharing their bad experiences of drinking such water.
On Twitter, Leslie Chang asked about action by the Government in the wake of the findings.
“What action (will) be taken? Shouldn’t the machines be quarantined already?”
Kavilan tweeted: “This is worrying. I get my water from these vending machines”.
Alif Eccen lamented that many people he knew bought drinking water from vending machines while Handri Haron shared that he had once bought water and found ants in it.
“Bottled water from now on,” said user Shary Sam who shared the report from The Star Online with friends.

Bacteria in your drinking water

PETALING JAYA: The water you buy from vending machines may not be as clean as you think.
Twenty-nine samples of water were drawn from such machines throughout the Klang Valley – and almost all were contaminated.
There were harmful E. coli, Coliform and Clostridium perfringens microbes – the same kind of bacteria found in untreated sewage.
Coliform and Clostridium perfringens are also the same bacteria found in human and animal faeces.
These bacteria can cause cramps, diarrhoea and other gastrointestinal problems.
The Star conducted the tests together with Forum Air Malaysia, an organisation formed to assist the National Water Services Commission.
Forum Air Malaysia tested 14 samples in April while The Star screen 15.
The samples were from vending machines here and in Subang Jaya, Cheras, Klang and Kuala Lumpur.

PETALING JAYA: Student Hanidah Ismail, 19, has been relying on water vending machines for her drinking water supply for the past two years.
Hanidah, who lives in a condominium in Kelana Jaya here, said she and her housemate would fill up two 1.5 litre bottles of water daily from the machine located in the building.
She said both of them had been completely reliant on water from the machines, especially during the water rationing exercise in February.
“It is cheap at only 20 sen per litre and it is filtered water. As students, we can’t afford to buy bottles of mineral water every day. It is also more convenient to buy filtered water instead of boiling water daily,” she said.
