John Duncan Tasker, 48, was vice-chairman of the Upper Changi Neighbourhood Committee from 2013 until July this year.

The court heard that at about 6.10 pm on May 30, Mr Yak Eng Kiat, 37, drove to Carpark C1 at East Coast Park and switched on his hazard lights while waiting for a car to leave a parking space. Tasker, a permanent resident from Britain, drove his car against the direction of traffic and took the space.

Mr Yak then wound down his driver’s seat window and asked: “How could you do this?”

Tasker went up to Mr Yak and a quarrel ensued, and both men exchanged vulgarities. Tasker then threw a punch at Mr Yak and returned to his car. As Mr Yak got out of his car to take photos of Tasker’s car plate, the latter drove towards him before leaving the carpark. Mr Yak stepped aside and was not hit.

He had a 2cm cut above his right eyelid stitched up in hospital and got six days of medical leave.

He got angry with an elderly Catholic priest who stopped at a cross-junction to give way to pedestrians.

Dick Lim Poh Guan, who was driving a van behind Father Adrian Anthony, later assaulted him at Cashin Street, off North Bridge Road, at around 10.40pm on Feb 20 last year.

Lim, 25, a provision shop owner at Bras Basah Complex, was jailed for seven weeks yesterday after pleading guilty to voluntarily causing hurt.

The road-rage attack occurred after Father Adrian left his parish at the Cathedral of the Good Shepherd at Queen Street at around 10.30pm to drive to a nearby McDonald’s to “grab a hamburger for dinner”.

The court heard that while he was about to turn right from Victoria Street into Middle Road, he stopped to allow pedestrians to cross at the junction despite the lights being in his favour.

Lim, who was with his wife, Madam Ao Lin, 20, became impatient and honked at Father Anthony, startling him.

After the priest drove off, Lim tailed him.

When Father Adrian parked his car at Cashin Street, off North Bridge Road, Lim stepped out of his van and knocked on the windscreen.

Father Adrian said: “He challenged me to a fight. He said if I were a man, I’d take him up on it. Why would he want that?

“I was 70, you know? I can barely move around and he wanted me to fight with him?”

SINGAPORE – A MOTORCYCLIST who punched and shattered the window of a Volkswagen in a road rage incident on Nov 16, was sentenced to three weeks’ jail yesterday. But Briton James George Palin (right), 33, is appealing against the sentence and is out on $15,000 bail.

The former regional director of a recruitment company, riding on his motorcycle on Tanjong Katong Road, had hit the bumper of a car driven by legal officer Chiang Pak Chien while overtaking him.

Mr Chiang, 43, who was with his girlfriend, Valerie Tan Hsu Phen, 42, overtook Palin, who had not stopped his motorcycle. Palin sped past him again and braked immediately in front of the car.

Mr Chiang slammed on his brakes to avoid crashing into the motorcycle and told his girlfriend to call the police. This was when Palin walked over to the driver’s side and punched the glass, which shattered over the couple.

Palin fled on his bike.
