Shahul’s Hinduism insult to go to fatwa body

Penang mufti Wan Salim Wan Mohd Noor said today his department has no control over controversial Islamic speaker Shahul Hamid as he is an “independent” ustaz.
“We cannot prevent preachers from sharing their knowledge and expressing their thoughts based on their knowledge,” Wan Salim told Malaysiakini .
“We can apply our guidelines on registered preachers but we cannot control the independent ones. We can only advise them,” he said.
However, Wan Salim said he would give his views on Shahul’s insulting of the Hindu religion in his lectures, and propose proper guidelines for such preachers at the next National Fatwa Council meeting in September.
This was necessary, he said, as the latest incident in which the sensitivities of non-Muslim communities were affected by religious issues occurred in other states as well.
“The bodies that can then enforce these guidelines are Majlis Agama Pulau Pinang (Penang Islamic Religious Council) and Jabatan Agama dan Kemajuan Islam Malaysia (Jakim) at the federal level,” he said.

‘I am not the Shahul Hamid you want’
IPOH: A 38-year-old man, who shares almost the same name as the PAS member under fire for allegedly insulting Hinduism during a ceramah, has lodged a police report.
Businessman Shahul Hamid Seeninaina Mohamed claimed to have received calls harassing and insulting him.
He said on Wednesday he had logged on to Facebook to find that someone had published his personal details together with a photograph of the PAS member.
“I do not know how they got my particulars but my name, car number plate, MyKad and my handphone number have been published on a political party’s Facebook page.
“Since then, I have received at least 16 calls from people I do not know, harassing and insulting me because they thought I was him,” he said yesterday.
Shahul Hamid said he lodged a police report as he was concerned over his and his family’s safety.

MORE RACIST RANTS: Curry powder Muslim preacher now attacks ‘SNAKE TEMPLE’
KUALA LUMPUR – Shahul Hamid Seeni Mohd, the Islamic preacher who gained infamy over his racist remarks against the Hindus made years ago during his sermon, now has another one of his flashbacks staring right at him.

In the latest seven minutes 13 seconds video, Shahul Hamid is seen making fun at the famous Penang Snake Temple, and seemingly finding the ‘fashion sense of Hindu goddesses” to be humorous.
He also took a dig at Muslims who tend to visit the temple, deemed to be a non-Islamic place to visit.
“Why the temple instead of other attractions deemed more Islamic?

“Why go to the snake temple? There are many more snakes in the zoo. It is not like the temple has anacondas. Just tiny small ones, what do you want to go and see that for? Where is your Islamic spirit? You cannot go there!” Shahul Hamid told the crowd.
In citing Hindu temples thereafter as a “sexy place of worship”, he also teased the Hindu goddess Lakshmi (goddess of wealth for Hindus) as being “scantily dressed”.
“A friend of mine stopped by a Hindu temple and I asked him why he stopped. He replied saying that she (goddess Lakshmi) is just too sexy.”
He went on to further berate the Muslims from also “celebrating” Thaipusam.
“You cannot celebrate Thaipusam. Deepavali is fine as it does not involve religious customs but not Thaipusam.

Shahul Hamid issued a public apology yesterday following controversy, after a video clip of his sermon made several years ago made its way into social media sites.
In the video, he told Muslims to not purchase curry powder from “Hindu companies” such as Alagappa’s and Baba’s.
“If you go to the Alagappa’s factory near Permatang Pauh, you will notice a statue at the entrance, with the tongue out.
“Why is the tongue out? Because the goddess must taste all the curry powder before they sell it,” he said.
The video then saw the Indian community, including political parties and religious bodies condemning the preacher’s “racist and extremist” views.
