“I said it before – a mistake would be key. First Jake Buxton in the tackle with Junior Hoillet was too soft and then Richard Keogh – what is he doing? He plays it into Bobby Zamora’s path who provides is the quality the game has been itching for. Can you believe it? QPR have been magnificent defensively and their one chance fell to the right man.”

Derby 0-1 QPR – Bobby Zamora

Wow! What drama! The blue and white half of Wembley, so quiet for so long, erupts into huge noise as QPR snatch the lead in the most dramatic fashion. Derby have had no defending to do for 45 minutes but a defensive error by Richard Keogh gifts the ball to Bobby Zamora, who expertly steers the ball beyond Lee Grant’s hopeless dive. Elation for QPR, despair for Derby.

British Pound Sterling

£120m. Imagine what you could do with that burning a hole in your pocket. Buy an island in the Bahamas perhaps? A penthouse on the edge of Hyde Park? A couple of Bugatis and a massive birthday cake for Yaya Toure?

That is the financial prize that could potentially be heading to one team as Derby and QPR slug it out this afternoon in the Championship play-off final at Wembley.

By the time the attention of the football supporting world swings to Lisbon for the Champions League final tonight, one team will find themselves considerably richer and back in the Premier League. For QPR, victory will bring an end to a brief dip of the toes in Championship water. For Derby, it will end a six-year exile from the top flight.
