Simultaneous blackouts in several states

Electricity blackouts have been reported in several peninsular states starting this afternoon.

Users started complaining of outages on electricity provider Tenaga Nasional Bhd’s Facebook page in parts of Negri Sembilan, Johor, Malacca and Kedah at about 3.30pm today.

The areas include Mantin, Nilai, Jempol, Seremban, Segamat, Jasin, Muar and Sungai Petani.

“There is disruption in your area and we are working to restore supply to the residential area right now.

“We apologise for any inconvenience. Thank you for using the TNB Careline,” TNB said in a standard response to all complainants.

When contacted, a TNB spokesperson said that the company will be issuing a statement soon.

IPOH: The industrial areas in Jelapang and Lumut were hit by power outage for about two hours this afternoon.

Perak Tenaga Nasional Berhad general manager Datuk Mohd Zahir Md Nagor said the power distruption began at 2.30pm and ended about 4.30pm.

He said the fault was attributed to system fault.

“We immediately rectified the fault and power was restored back to both areas within two hours,” he said.
