Jewellery thieves arrested

GEORGE TOWN: Five foreigners were nabbed for allegedly stealing jewellery worth RM30,000 from devotees during the Thaipusam celebration here.

The suspects – four Sri Lankan women and an Indian national man – were picked up in Penang Street when the Lord Muruga’s silver chariot was leaving for Nattukotai Chettiar Temple in Jalan Kebun Bunga on Saturday.

George Town OCPD Asst Comm Mior Faridalathrash Wahid said the suspects were aged between 30 and 40.

“We received five jewellery theft reports.

“These suspects could be members of a syndicate targeting the elders, as the victims were aged between 50 and 70.

“We believe they were acting in groups and some of their accomplices could be still at large.

“They are professionals as some of the victims only realised that their necklaces were missing after they got home,” he said.

Guard shoots fleeing robber in leg during RM500k heist in Bayan Baru

GEORGE TOWN, March 4 — Despite security guards firing five shots at two fleeing robbers, they managed to escape with a sack containing RM500,000 from a security van parked some distance from a bank in Bayan Baru near here today.

It is believed the shots fired by the security guard injured one of the robbers in the 11am incident.

While one of the robbers escaped on a motorcycle, the other fled from the scene in the direction of a residential area.

Penang CID chief Datuk Mazlan Kesah said due to their fear of being shot, the robbers, one of whom was armed with a pistol, only managed to escape with one sack filled with RM500,000 while another bag with RM300,000 was abandoned on the road.

“The man who was waiting on a motorcycle sped away, leaving his injured accomplice behind. The accomplice fled across the road and headed for a residential area,” he told reporters here today.

HOW WE HATE JAGA KERETA!

My first experience of jaga kereta was as a 13 year-old boy. Father, Eldest Brother, Elder Brother and I had gone to watch a football match at the stadium. Perak played some other team.

Father refused to pay the jaga kereta as it was a public parking lot. After the game, we discovered that we had flat tyres. FOUR flat tyres. Father phoned Mother to come over in the VW and fetch Elder Brother and me home while he and Eldest Brother waited for a tyre repair man to arrive.

Others have also had their tyres punctured, their cars scratched, and their safety threatened. You don’t pay, they will do something to your car or to you!

GEORGE TOWN: A leading bakery in Jalan Datuk Keramat here was sealed off for two weeks after State health authorities found rat droppings in its premises during a spot check today.

Although health inspectors did not find any rats during the two-hour long spot check on the bakery, which is popular for its roti Benggali, they found to their surprise that two trolleys with stacks of dough left beside the toilet, with its door ajar in the operation which began at 9am.

Grossing out the officers, from the Northeast District Health Department, was the discovery of human hair-like items in a container with oil, which are used to knead the dough.

The raiding party also found to their disgust that several workers were simply throwing excess dough on the wet floor instead of collecting them in a bin for disposal later.

Checks later revealed, the premises was devoid of any bins for the disposal of unwanted food wastes or other materials.

GEORGE TOWN: A NUMBER of entertainment centres here are giving the state a bad name as they have been found doubling up as vice dens.

Police said karaoke outlets and pubs top the list of entertainment centres with shady operations, where foreign women are hired to work as prostitutes while posing as guest relations officers (GROs).

The authorities, especially the police, are also concerned about the rampant peddling of drugs at such joints.

THE MYSTERY OF 17 MURDERED MYANMARESE

On the status of investigation into the 16 cases, Abdul Rahim said they were awaiting feedback from Bukit Aman on request for assistance.

A source close to the investigation said the modus operandi of the latest killing had similarities to earlier murders.

Malay Mail had on September 18 front-paged a report that the victims were believed to have been killed over disputes between Muslims and Buddhists from Myanmar.

NIBONG TEBAL, Oct 27 — A 17th case of a murder victim with his throat slit occurred over the weekend in Penang.

The decomposed remains of a man, believed to be a foreigner, was found at a nursery near a housing project in Tiga Kongsi, Simpang Ampat, on Saturday night.

He was killed in a similar manner in which 16 other Myanmar nationals were murdered in the state this year.

Police were quick to downplay it, saying the murder had nothing to do with communal clashes between Myanmar nationals, but could not provide a motive for the killings.

Like in previous cases, the victim in the latest incident was believed to have been killed elsewhere and dumped in a remote area.

State criminal investigation department chief SAC Mazlan Kesah said police received a tip-off about a foul smell in the area at about 10pm.

“We found a highly decomposed body wrapped in newspapers and covered with boxes,” Mazlan said.

“The victim, clad in T-shirt and tracksuit, is believed to be in his 30s and we suspect he was killed elsewhere 48 hours earlier.

The victim’s throat was slit and there were also four deep wounds on his head.

His nationality is not known as there were no documents on him — just as in the case of the 16 murdered Myanmar nationals who were mostly factory workers.

Male escorts make big bucks up north

MALE escorts up north are said to be making more money than most white-collar workers by charging up to RM600 for a four-hour session.

Notices to recruit male escorts can be seen in several northern states.

In a probe, a Nanyang Siang Pau reporter posed as an interested candidate for the job and called a number given.

A man named Eddie answered and told him that a male escort earns two to four times more than a white-collar employee, and can get between RM400 and RM600 for two to four hours’ “work”.

He said that male escorts only needed to make sure the clients were “happy and satisfied” by chit-chatting with them or providing services such as a massage.

Guard kills would-be robber threatening arson, saves bank

GEORGE TOWN, Aug 28 — A would-be robber who threatened to set a bank on fire was shot dead today by a security guard with lightning quick reflexes.

In the morning incident, a moustachioed man wearing a baseball cap entered the bank, carrying a plastic bottle containing petrol, which he later poured over the counter, before allegedly shouting: “It’s a robbery”.

A security guard on duty behind the counter immediately opened fire on the would-be robber, killing the man on the spot, Penang deputy police chief DCP A. Thaiveegan told a news conference here at the site of the incident.

“He shot the man twice from behind the counter,” Thaiveegan said.

The suspect was later found to be wearing a false moustache. He had another bottle of petrol and a machete with him, the policeman said.

“The 29-year-old guard did his job. I am very proud of him that he took action accurately and he was sharp,” Thaiveegan said.

Police also believed the man was the same one involved in another bank robbery in May.

“The same modus operandi was used in the robbery in May where the robber had doused the counter in petrol and robbed RM60,000 from a bank,” the senior policeman said.

Penang security men say Ong hit them first

Two members of Penang’s voluntary patrol unit (PPS) have lodged police reports against businessman Ong Eu Soon, to counter Ong’s claim that they assaulted him.

This come after the duo – Lee Yew Kuan, 66, and Lee Chan Kwong, 35, were picked up by police yesterday to assist in the probe involving Ong, who claimed he was physically assaulted by two PPS members at the Farlim market on Sunday night.

Countering the claim, Chan Kwong said that a stranger later identified as Ong had approached him at the Farlim Market at 11pm and pushed him off his motorcycle causing bruises on his left arm.

“The man, who wore a blue t-shirt and black trousers was upset with me before he pushed me off the bike.

“A friend, Lee Yew Kuen came to my help, Ong had acted aggressively and hit my friend’s head with a stick. There was blood on his head,” Chan Kwong said.

“So I lodged a police report at the Jalan Patani police station about 11.35pm yesterday, because I fear for my life,” he added.

Penang critic claims state security assaulted him

Ong Eu Soon, a vocal critic of the Pakatan Rakyat government, claimed he was physically assaulted by several men wearing the state’s voluntary patrol unit uniforms in Farlim, Penang, last night.

Ong said the incident occurred about 10.45pm while he was attending a Chinese temple dinner held in front of the Farlim market.

“Suddenly, several men wearing the voluntary patrol unit (PPS, Pasukan Patrol Sukarela) approached me and attacked me with their helmets,” Ong stated in a police report lodged at the Bandar Baru police station.

“I was kicked and punched, there are bruises on my body, my eyes are swollen and my spectacles are broken,” he added.

“It was the public who eventually came between us and stopped their attacks,” said  Ong, 51, without specifying how many men allegedly attacked him.

Meanwhile, Parti Cinta Malaysia vice-chairperson Huan Cheng Guan who is assisting Ong in the matter said the state government should disband the PPS if they cannot control the team.

“How come a uniform unit beat people up? I urged police chief Abdul Rahim Hanafi  and the Home Ministry to look into this matter seriously,” he told Malaysiakini.

GEORGE TOWN: The two Indonesian men found murdered in front of a shopping mall in Bukit Jambul were cleaners at the Tabung Haji Complex in Bayan Lepas.

Penang CID chief Senior Asst Comm Mazlan Kesah said they would interview the colleagues, friends and family members of the victims to get to the bottom of the matter.

He said one of the victim’s sister is married to a local and stays in Butterworth.

“We need to know their circle of friends to establish the motive.

“By interviewing their friends and family members, it can help us to narrow down the possible angles in carrying our probe.

“It could be just a misunderstanding between two group of people that led to the tragic fight,” he said at the Penang police open house at George Town district headquarters on Monday.

Penang family taken on terror ride by robbers

GEORGE TOWN, July 3 — A family of four got a rude awakening early today when two men broke into their home, ransacked their house and took them on terror ride for nearly two hours.

In the 4.30am incident, the two masked men are believed to have climbed through the roof into the single storey terrace house belonging to the Ooi family, in Taman Hutchings, Georgetown.

Penang CID chief SAC Mazlan Kesah said the men took a parang from the house and wielded it when they first entered the teenage daughter’s room.

“They then proceeded to the master bedroom and then ransacked the house for about an hour but they only got about RM5,000 in cash and some jewellery,” he told a press conference after visiting the scene of the crime.

Unhappy with such a small amount of money the men threatened the family, a couple and their two teenage children, and demanded more.

“The husband offered them his credit cards so they forced the whole family into the family’s Mercedes Benz parked in front of the house and drove off at about 6am,” Mazlan said.

The men drove the family to a shopping complex in Seberang Perai, looking for a bank so that cash could be withdrawn using the credit cards but the 51-year-old victim managed to jump out of the car to escape.

The men then beat up the wife and two children who were still in the car, driving  towards Sungai Petani  before abandoning the three victims at Tikam Batu at about 8am.

The men drove away with the car.

He said the police immediately set roadblocks  in the area but the car has not been found.

FAIR OR UNFAIR, PENANG’S CHIEF MINISTER, LIM GUAN ENG, IS A TARGET FOR PRO-UMNO MACAI.

HERE IS PG1, THE CHIEF MINISTER’S CAR, PARKED IN A NO PARKING LOT PENANG TIMES SQUARE.

A picture of the Penang chief minister’s official car parked in a no-parking zone made the rounds in social media, attracting criticism. — Picture taken from Facebook

He was criticized for illegal parking, and an award of RM20 was offered to the photographer.

The Penang Times Square responded to media queries by saying that car park attendants have been instructed to allow VIP vehicles to park there to drop their passengers off.

“We have given the approval for the vehicle to be there.  This is a non-issue as it is within our compound,” Time Square general manager CC Yeap said via text message to the media.

…..

Here is another photo.

The photo was published in a pro-BN Facebook account, which also offered a RM20 award to the photographer who snapped the image of the grey Mercedes Benz with the plate PG1 at Times Square along Jalan Dato Keramat.

It is uncertain who or when took the photo but some Facebook users have also offered higher rewards for the photo.

Today, the China Press published a story on the issue based on the information in the said Facebook account and this did not go down well with Lim.

“If the newspaper can publish such a story, why doesn’t it mention that it is from a pro-BN Facebook page,” said Lim in a press conference today.

Penang to ban foreign cooks in hawker stalls

GEORGE TOWN: The Penang government will implement a ban on foreign cooks in hawker stalls to protect their food heritage.

Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng said that hawker licences were only given to the locals but the local council discovered that a few hawkers had employed foreign cooks.

According to research conducted by the Penang Island Municipal Council (MPPP), 119 foreigners were working as cooks in 68 hawker centres in Penang Island.

Lim said Penang was famous for its hawker food and the food must retain a local taste instead of a foreign taste.

“It defeats the purpose of approving the hawker licence only for the locals if the hawkers employed foreigners as their main cooks,” he said.

DOES LIM GUAN ENG DENY THAT PENANG IS THE SEX CITY OF MALAYSIA? He should check this out for himself!

Penang – WikiSexGuide – International World Sex Guid

Penang Sex Guide advises where to find sex, working girls, prostitution, street hookers, brothels, red-light districts, prostitutes, erotic massage parlors, strip clubs .

Look at the following from Penang Sex Guide:

Prostitutes

You can find few freelance prostitutes from the main beach bar in Penang Island.

There is a huge disparity in the earnings of a high class prostitute and a lower end hooker in Penang. A high class call girl with a regular clients would be able to earn as much as RM2,000 per night, or even more. She often also works as a Guest Relations Officer (GRO) at an exclusive karaoke lounge to solicit for clients and earn a salary with tips as well. However, life is different for hookers operating at Lorong Haji Taib or Chow Kit. They generally earn just enough for the basic living necessities. They would be lucky to earn RM50 a night. Some supplement their income working as GROs for tips in budget karaoke lounges locally called papaya farms.

Street Hookers

Street hookers are on the corner of Jln Burma and Jln Penang. Check the sex gender before a deal there are many ladyboys in the area also.

It is really hard to say a price range. Heard about prices from 40RM to 1000RM.

Erotic Massage parlours

There are plenty of good massage parlours in Penang giving full body massage for RM50 per hour. The places that offer sexual services are generally called Health Centres or Spas.

Most of these the girls offer extra services. Sometimes just a happy ending, rub and tug, others offer blow jobs and full service. The extra services are negotiable with the massage girl and can range from RM50 – RM100 for a happy ending to RM150 for full service.

WOW, IS THAT REALLY TRUE? IS PENANG A SEX CITY?

The NGO, Migrants and Refugees Northern Network (JUMP) claimed that Penang, especially George Town, has a ‘thriving sex industry.’

Since the claim was made, there have been denial after denial…

Pointing out the presence of private dicso rooms in a shopping mall in Pulau Tikus, Sudhagaran questioned how such businesses operate without problems.

“Are the police part of the problem in allowing such places to operate for something in return?” he asked.

‘Set up task force to curb sex trade in Penang’

The Penang government has been urged to set up a task force to look into an NGO’s claim that at least 200 premises offer sex services in George Town and Butterworth.

The Episcopal Commission for Migrants and Itinerants in Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei, which issued the call, said there is need for an urgent solution.

“All parties should work hand-in-hand to tackle this problem,” said Sudhagaran Stanley, who heads the commission.

Sudhagaran suggested that the task force comprises representatives of the police, Immigration Department and interest groups, and that it  formulates a year-long plan to free Penang of human trafficking activities.

State Opposition Leader Jahara Hamid also called for action and for Penangites to “be wary” of these sex spots.

“We want to promote Penang as a tourism and heritage centre, not as a sex haven or paradise, or as a place for LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transexual) activities,” Jahara told a press conference today.

200 sex hotspots in Penang

Sex and the city: Morrison speaking to participants during the seminar at a hotel in Batu Feringghi.

GEORGE TOWN: A research has claimed that the sex industry is thriving in Penang with at least 200 ‘hotspots’ offering sexual services.

Some of these places even have Global Positioning System (GPS) coordinates so that they could be found easily, said researcher Todd Morrison of the Northern Network for Migration and Refugees (JUMP).

JUMP has described itself as a network of groups and individuals who are working towards an environment which is “respectful, supportive of the basic human rights of migrants and refugees in the northern region of Peninsular Malaysia”.

Morrison said the ‘hotspots’ were mostly massage parlours, hair salons, entertainment joints and hotels.

They would offer hourly rates and had been mentioned on online forums, he added.

Morrison found that 85% out of the 172 taxi drivers interviewed on the island said they had ferried passengers at least once to such places, stressing however that the taxi drivers had no involvement in the trade.

He conducted his research through fieldwork and information gathered over a period of two weeks in 2011.

Seminar never referred to Penang as ‘sex city’, say organisers

The seminar was not to sensationalise the existence of a sex industry in Penang (a feature of most cities across the world) but to say there is an issue and to look at what can be done, says The Penang Stop Human Trafficking Campaign.

Penang-Stop-Sex-Trafficking-Campaign

Following the successful organisation of a seminar on ‘Sex Trafficking in Penang: What we Can Do About It’ last Saturday, we notice that some press coverage has taken a very negative line.

This is a pity, since the issue is a serious issue, and is about finding and supporting the women, girls, men and boys who are victims of sex trafficking and bringing criminals to justice. It is not about party politics or apportioning blame.

As the main organiser of the seminar, we would like to make it very clear that nowhere was Penang referred to as a ‘sex city’, not by the Northern Network for Migrants and Refugees (Jump) or anyone else at the seminar. Nor was there any emphasis given to highlighting Penang as being any better or worse than other cities and towns around the world grappling with the horrors of human trafficking, including people trafficked for sexual exploitation.

George Town is not a ‘sex city’, says Penang CPO

GEORGE TOWN: Police have denied a report by a non-governmental organisation (NGO) that George Town is a ‘sex city’ because it has at least 200 hotspots that offer sex services.

Penang police chief Datuk Abdul Rahim Hanafi (pic) said the NGO report based on a survey was questionable as it was conducted in 2011 with taxi drivers as the respondents.

“The NGO’s representative will be summoned to give a statement in connection with the report. The report is untrue as the police and local authorities conduct daily raids on hotels and entertainment premises.

“We conducted up to five raids daily in order to curb such activities,” he told reporters after launching a crime prevention programme for Penang secondary schools at Universiti Sains Malaysia here on Tuesday.
