It says, “YOU WANT YOUR MOMMA BECAUSE YOU’RE IN THE HOSPITAL WITH LOUSY NURSES.”

AirAsia group chief executive officer Tan Sri Tony Fernandes said he would personally take this matter up with Tune Insurance Holdings.

“It is a stupid advertisement and I have taken it up with AirAsia’s chief executive officer Aireen Omar who informed me the advertisement will be removed,” he said in a text message.

“We have set up additional controls to ensure that this is not repeated.”

An AirAsia spokesman gave the assurance the advertisement would be removed immediately.

Advertisement belittling nurses slammed, Fernandes apologises

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 27 – Malaysian Medical Association (MMA) slammed AirAsia for an advertisement placed on the back of it’s aircraft seats belittling nurses.

MMA president Datuk Dr N.K.S. Tharmaseelan condemned the advertisement stating an advert that belittles any profession is considered offensive.

“It shows utter lack of understanding on the role of nurses which is to care for others in the best possible way,” he said.

The Tune Insurance Holdings advertisement carried a tagline stating: “You want your momma, because you are in the hospital with lousy nurses” was highlighted by MMA.

Tharmaseelan pointed out the advert revealed a condescending attitude that verges on arrogance and a lack of empathy which should be abhorred.

“Such an advertisement gives the idea that Malaysian nurses are lousy and it is painting a bad image of the profession as a whole which is grossly unfair.”

A spokesman from the Malaysian Nurses Association (MNA) said they would reserve their comments until investigations into the matter were completed.

TWO COMPETITORS FIGHT FOR OUR PATRONAGE. One makes money, serves real nasi lemak and offers FREE seats. The other loses a billion ringgit, serves naked nasi lemak and has NO free seat to offer.

Who will you fly with? If I had to pay for my own tickets, it would be AirAsia. If you paid for me, MAS.

AirAsia, MAS sharpen knives for promotional war

A promotional war is brewing between low cost carrier AirAsia and national carrier Malaysia Airlines (MAS) with both scheduled to release special offers on the same day.

While MAS has asked netizens to keep an eye on a mystery promotion set for Feb 24, AirAsia let the cat out of the bag with its own offer of free seats which will begin on the same day.

The two air carriers have been engaged in fierce competition for some time now.

Earlier this month AirAsia took a dig at MAS with an advertisement, declaring that the world’s number one low cost carrier’s nasi lemak was whole.

The more aggressive campaign mounted by AirAsia can be seen in the frustration of its group chief executive officer Tony Fernandes.

He had complained about MAS’ promotional offers despite suffering heavy losses, saying that this could only come at the expense of tax payers.

“AirAsia all stars. Take a bow. Malaysian Airlines lost over a billion. Malaysia airport delay terminal by 3 years. Yet still great results

“I wonder if it’s fair that Malaysia airlines can lose so much money and protect its market share. Can only do that with taxpayers money,” he had said in a series of twitter postings.
