Cops deny receiving report over boy’s suicide

KAJANG: The headmistress of a school where bullies were alleged to have driven T. Kavinraj into committed suicide has claimed that five students are being investigated over the case.

However, the police denied that they have received a report over the matter.

The boy’s close family friend Sambhasivam Doraisamy, 49, said Kavinraj’s family met the school’s headmistress on Thursday and were told that the five students are being investigated for bullying Kavinraj.

“That’s all she said. When I asked who they were or if they were Kavinraj’s classmates or what action is going to be taken, she didn’t want to tell us.

“She said we need to speak to police because it was a police case.”

Painful ordeal: The father showing the wound on the teenager’s arm during an interview in Sungai Petani.

SUNGAI PETANI: Angered after a classmate allegedly cut his hair, a 15-year-old boy slashed his own arm in front of other children in his classroom.

The boy used a paper cutter from his school bag to slash the inner side of his left arm twice before rushing to the toilet to wash the wound.

Some of his 28 classmates witnessed the incident in horror while they were waiting for their class to start on Sunday morning.

His mother, who came after receiving a call from the school authorities, rushed him to a clinic.

He received 12 stitches for the wound.

When met yesterday, the boy said he had wanted to show the bully what he had just done, claiming that the bully came from behind and cut his hair when he was at his desk.

He claimed that he had been bullied since last year.

COULD BULLYING IN SCHOOL BE SO BAD THAT IT PROPELS A STUDENT TO SUICIDE?

We don’t want to believe that it can happen but Form One student,T. Kavinraj, 12, might have been pushed to do exactly that.

School to probe incident leading to boy’s suicide

KAJANG: Authorities of the school where a boy was allegedly driven to suicide by bullies have pledged to investigate the case and take action against any culprit.

Sambhasivam Doraisamy, a family friend of T. Kavinraj, who died on Saturday, said the school had been unaware of the boy’s plight.

“He had told me that he complained to the disciplinary teacher about it two weeks ago but actually he did not do so.

“The teachers did not know who the bullies were. No one said anything about it,” said Sambhasivam, 49.

“Only he knew who they were and he’s gone now. But the school promised they would investigate and take action against them. I’m satisfied with that,” he told reporters yesterday after a meeting with the school headmistress.

After help pleas ignored, bullied student drinks pesticide

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 10 — AN SMK Bandar Rinching schoolboy took his own life by drinking pesticide at his home in Bandar Rinching on Friday, after he was bullied by his peers.

Form One student T. Kavinraj, 12, was taunted about his deceased father, physically abused, and even had his shorts pulled down in front of other students, said his family members.

His father P. Thangavelu died from stroke early last year, leaving his mother B. Thanamalar to support himself and his three other siblings.

Kavinraj’s uncle D. Saambha Shevam, 49, said his nephew had been complaining about the bullying since the new school term started last month.

“He was a quiet boy but over the past two weeks, he kept asking us to go to the school and talk to the bullies,” said Saambha, a lorry driver.

Kavinraj had reported the constant bullying to a teacher and the family had also planned to confront the bullies.

However, Kavinraj, who was a school prefect, drank a bottle of pesticide after lunch with his family on Friday.

“He said he was going to wash his hands but came out and told me he had drank the pesticide,” said Thanamalar, 43.

“I rushed him to the nearest clinic. As the doctor held his hand, Kavinraj said nobody understood his pain of being constantly taunted about his dead father.”

Driven to death by bullies

KUALA LUMPUR: A family friend of 13-year-old T. Kavinraj (pic), whose mother claimed that bullies drove him to committing suicide by drinking insecticide, wishes that he had taken the boy’s complaints more seriously.

Sambhasivam Doraisamy, 49, whom Kavinraj had looked up to as a father figure, said the student would often come home from school crying or upset.

“He used to keep to himself and not tell us what happened. But recently, he told me and asked me to go talk to the four boys who were bullying him.

“I said ‘no need lah’ and told him to just inform his teacher. I wished that I had taken him more seriously,” lamented Sambhasivam.

Kajang OCPD Asst Comm Abdul Rashid Abdul Wahab said police had made arrangements to take a statement from Kavinraj’s mother.

“We are waiting for the mother to finish all the funeral rites before we talk to her,” he said, adding that her statement would shed light on the allegations that her son was constantly bullied at school.
