Utusan apologises to DAP over article on Tanda Putera
DAP has accepted Utusan Malaysia’s apology to its leaders Lim Kit Siang (pic) and Lim Guan Eng over an article on the controversial Tanda Putera film.
Chairman Karpal Singh said this is the last time the party will accept an apology from the Umno-owned newspaper.
“We accepted their apology but Utusan cannot go on lying. We will give them this opportunity to turn over a new leaf,” he said at a press conference at Parliament lobby today.

More than a year after the film ‘Tanda Putera’ was embroiled in controversy with its Facebook page accusing DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang of urinating on a flagpole, the site has conceded that the posting was a mistake.
In its latest posting yesterday, the Facebook site of the film on the May 13, 1969, race riots attributed
the faulty allegation it made July last year to a junior social media administrator
“The administrator at that time, who was also our friend, received a link from a visitor who sent a picture of Lim Kit Siang with wrong caption.
“Our junior administrator did not do it on purpose, but he thought it was real, so he uploaded it,” the latest posting reads.
The caption said Lim urinated on the flagpole outside the house of the then Selangor menteri besar Harun Idris.
Yesterday’s ‘Tanda Putera’ Facebook statement said the mistake was promptly rectified and claimed that the administrator and film producer have since apologised, though it did not specify to whom.
However, it noted that there were demands for an apology on Facebook where the posting originally appeared: “No problem, we will do it (apologise on Facebook),” the posting says.
“The picture and caption were not our creations but were sent to us,” it adds.

Lim unfazed over Twitter death threat; wants Utusan to apologise over Tanda Putera article
Last updated on 12 September 2013 – 09:42pm
GEORGE TOWN (Sept 12, 2013): Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng received a death threat via social networking site Twitter on Wednesday night.
The threat read “#DinastyLim #CEC #DAPig @cmlimguaneng cheater! You mati minggu depan” (You die next week) which was posted by a user at 7.18pm.
A visit to the account showed the person had 45 followers and 87 tweets, and is following 256 accounts.
Lim later retweeted the tweet, saying: “This is a death threat!”
He however remained unfazed and was also reluctant to lodge a police report over the matter. “If I lodge a report, will the police take action?” he asked in a press conference today when questioned about it.
Lim said he will seek advice from his lawyer, State Housing Committee chairman Jagdeep Singh, before taking further action.
“I will make an announcement today,” he said, lamenting that no action was taken despite the reports lodged with the police and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) when his son was falsely accused of molesting a schoolmate.

DID ANYONE URINATE ON A FLAGPOLE AT THE MENTRI BESAR’S HOUSE?
DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang said that even former Special Branch deputy director Yuen Yuet Leong has no recollection of anyone urinating on any flagpole, sparking the riots.
Kit Siang claimed that this was relayed to him when he had asked Yuen about it on the phone earlier today.
“Yuen not only confirmed that the May 13, 1969 ‘urination’ incident at the Selangor Mentri Besar’s residence was totally fictional, he rightly remarked that if there was any such a person who committed such an outrageous act, he would not have left the Selangor Mentri Besar’s residence alive!”

Retired senior cop says “urination” scene in Tanda Putera is fictional
A retired senior police officer has confirmed that the “urination” incident at the flagpole in the residence of the Selangor menteri besar did not happen as depicted in the controversial “Tanda Putera” movie.
DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang (pic) said he had contacted Datuk Seri Yuen Yuet Leng who confirmed that the May 13, 1969 “urination” incident was totally fictional as the ex-cop never heard of it although he was based in Kuala Lumpur during the riots.
“He rightly remarked that if there was any person who committed such an outrageous act, he would not have left the Selangor menteri besar’s residence alive,” Lim said in a statement today.
Yuen had a distinguished career in the police force and among the posts he held were Perak police chief (1976 to 1981) and Sarawak police commissioner from 1981 till 1984.

“You (Puad and Utusan) have recklessly, falsely and maliciously, in complete disregard for the truth amounting to irresponsible journalism of the worst kind, without verifying the truth of the allegations against our client in the impugned words, and in willful blindness, published the said words,” says the letter from Karpal Singh & Co.
It said those words had caused Lim’s reputation “serious and irreparable damage”.

Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng has issued letters of demand to Umno supreme council member Mohd Puad Zarkashi and Utusan Malaysia over a report in the Sept 7 issue of the Malay daily related to the movie ‘Tanda Putera’.
In his letter, Lim’s lawyers Karpal Singh & Co said Puad “falsely and maliciously” stated in the report headlined “Cuba sembunyi kebiadapan DAP” that he (Lim) tried to prevent the movie from being screened in Penang because “he wants to hide the rude scene of a DAP leader”.
Puad had then said Lim’s action to stop the screening of the movie was merely to hide the insolence of DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang for urinating in front of the house of then Selangor menteri besar Harun Idris during the May 13, 1969, race riots.

Faced with legal action by DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang, former information minister Zainuddin Maidin is turning to another DAP veteran for help.
In a blog posting today, Zainuddin said that this is because Lim’s act of trying to gag him, a “freelance journalist”, goes against democracy and DAP chaiperson Karpal Singh (right) is a strong defender of democracy.
“If Lim sues me, then I plan to approach Karpal for his pro bono services, as I believe that he is a steadfast defender of democratic principles in all circumstances,” he said.
Ironically, Karpal is acting on behalf of Lim on the matter.
The letter of demand, served yesterday to Utusan Malaysia and former deputy minster Mohd Puad Zarkashi, pertains to claims that Lim had urinated on a flag pole in 1969, triggering the May 13 racial riots.

Kit Siang takes Puad, Zam and Utusan Malaysia to court over “urinating” comments
DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang will take legal action against two Umno politicians and newspaper Utusan Malaysia for an article which implied that he had indeed urinated in front of the Selangor menteri besar’s home during the May 13 riots in 1969.
The article, which appeared in the daily on Saturday, quoted former deputy minister Dr Mohd Puad Zarkashi as saying that the DAP had strongly criticised the controversial movie, Tanda Putera, to “hide Lim’s rudeness” when he had allegedly urinated on a flag during the incident.
The DAP veteran has denied the allegations and the movie director Datin Paduka Shuhaimi Baba has confirmed that she had used her “creative licence” in coming up with the urinating incident.
“How can the former Umno deputy minister say that, and Utusan Malaysia publish such falsehood? This is a most irresponsible and downright lie.

Former Information Minister Zainuddin Maidin, in a blog post last Tuesday, had also accused Lim of having “sowed the seeds of death” in causing the May 13 riots.
