The mother of sex blogger Alvin Tan was questioned by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) today over his controversial Ramadan posting.
However, Tan’s lead counsel Chong Joo Tian (right) questioned the move, stressing that she has no connection to the case.
“We have asked them for the reasons (for questioning her and) the connection between her and the case. They were not able to tell us,” he told reporters.
Chong said there is no reason to question Tan’s family members because he has already been charged in court, and the posting was made without the family’s knowledge. Tan was also living separately from the family at the time.
Asked if he believes that the MCMC is harassing Tan’s family, Chong said the question would be best directed to the commission.
Tan’s mother declined to speak to the press, and Chong said her name will only be released later.

Now, Alvin Tan’s mother summoned for questioning
The mother of sex blogger Alvin Tan has been summoned to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) on Monday.
Tan’s lawyer, Chong Joo Tian said the MCMC had contacted him to get in touch with Tan’s mother.
“MCMC called my office and said they wanted to take a statement from Alvin’s mum.
“To avoid a scene and to stop them from going to her house and taking her in, I have told them that I will take her to MCMC on Monday morning,” Chong told The Malaysian Insider.
“I asked them why was there a need to take her statement as she has nothing to do with the case her son was facing, but they did not give me any reasons.”
Chong said he had also received MCMC’s notice to Tan’s mother.

Sex bloggers Alvin Tan and Vivian Lee freed today after posting bail of RM30,000, said their stay in detention was alright.
“Not bad,” said a smiling Tan briefly when met by reporters who asked about the duo’s stay in the court detention facility.
When further asked about his eight-day stay in Sungai Buloh prison under remand while Lee was held at the Kajang prison, Tan continued to smile.
Lee meanwhile remained quiet and lowered her head to avoid photographers trying to take shots of the duo.
The duo were brought to the bail centre of the KL High Court at 10am to sign their bond before being released.
Twenty minutes later after the paperwork the duo left the premises in separate vehicles.

Treat Alvivi with care – A Kadir Jasin
July 19, 2013
And I am dead serious when I say Alvivi must be treated like a prince and princess, strictly according to the rules by the prison authority. They must be closely monitored and their movements recorded.
I know you know where I am coming from and I know you get my drift. Too many people are dying in custody. And dying with them is the setting up the IPCMC. – July 19, 2013
