Local UMNO leader calls for BN supporters to vote for PAS to change Najib’s mind about appointing Datuk Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim as new Chairman of Tabung Haji.

Jul 16: A mobile text message from a local UMNO leader in Kuala Besut calling on BN supporters to vote for PAS’s candidate Azlan Yusof caught the attention of PAS deputy president Mohamad Sabu, who said an internal sabotage was looming within UMNO ahead of the July 24 by-election.
“This is a SMS I received from a local UMNO leader asking people to vote for the PAS candidate. The purpose is to change (prime minister) Najib (Razak)’s mind for failing to appoint a suitable person to head Tabung Haji,” Mat Sabu said in a speech during campaigning in Kuala Besut.
Najib’s decision to appoint Baling MP Abdul Azeez as chairman of the Hajj fund, replacing long-serving Abi Musa Asa’ari Mohamed Nor, drew flak from many quarters.
Mat Sabu pointed out that Terengganu voters were now in the ‘mood for change’, saying this could be seen from the increase in opposition gains from 8 seats in 2008 to 15 in 2013.

Sources told The Malaysian Insider that among the names bandied about for the chairman’s post was that of Tan Sri Ismail Omar, the recently retired Inspector-General of Police but the only name forwarded was the name of Datuk Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim

Najib’s pick for Tabung Haji boss draws flak
He should be celebrating his appointment as the chairman of one of Malaysia’s most respected institutions but instead Datuk Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim (pic) has been on the receiving end of the 2 Rs: ridicule and rejection.
And most of the vitriol against the head of Umno’s Putera club and the MP for Baling is coming from his own party.
In the eyes of Umno politicians, the choice by Prime Minister Najib Razak for chairman of Tabung Haji lacks the experience, wisdom, qualifications and does not have the standing to head an organisation which sits on a fund totaling RM35 billion.
And those are the more charitable comments for the 47-year-old grassroots politician who has a secondary school certificate and little by way of blue ribbon pedigree.
The more biting criticisms link his appointment to his cozy relationship with the First Family and as a payback for his ability to make embarrassing issues for the rich and powerful disappear.
