INTERVIEW

KELANA JAYA: Kelana Jaya MP Loh Gwo Burne’s rise to Malaysia’s political stage was unlike any other.

Frequently dubbed the “Video MP” by local media, 38-year-old Loh shot to instant fame in 2007 when a video he shot of lawyer VK Lingam led to a Royal Commission of Inquiry into the manipulation of judicial appointments.

Loh’s video ultimately earned him the parliamentary seat when he contested in the 2008 general election, defeating Barisan Nasional candidate Lee Hwa Beng and independent Billi Lim.

Five years later and a month before the 13th general election, Loh has released a new video clip which he claimed showed another case fixing within the judiciary.

Govt will ignore Loh’s exposé, says Zaid

G Vinod | February 7, 2013

The former law minister says only a clean administration can ensure a clean judiciary.

PETALING JAYA: Former law minister Zaid Ibrahim doubts that the government will act on the recent exposé of alleged case fixing involving judges.

He told FMT today it would be out of character for the current government to heed recommendations by a commission of inquiry even if it were to set it up to probe the recent claim made by Kelana Jaya MP Loh Gwo Burne.

“I don’t think the existing government will do anything to weed out corruption in the judiciary,” he said.

“Yeah … but no need. J [another friend] is there! My good friend. J, my old wheeler dealer broker,” said the professional.

“We have provided information and evidence of continuing malpractice and fixing of cases to the highest bidder,” Mui Fah told a press conference here.

Gwo Burne releases new ‘judicial fixing’ clip

Kelana Jaya MP Loh Gwo Burne, who became famous for releasing the VK Lingam video clip back in 2007, has released a new clip that he says shows the judiciary to be susceptible to corruption.

The video was recorded by his father Mui Fah a few years ago, during a meeting with an accountant to discuss a civil case in which they are both involved.
…………….

In September 2007, PKR had released an explosive eight-minute video clip in which senior lawyer Lingam held a phone conversation purportedly with the then-chief justice, Ahmad Fairuz Sheikh Abdul Halim, allegedly fixing the appointment of ‘friendly’ senior judges.

This led to public outrage and the government finally agreed to set up a royal commission of inquiry (RCI) into the Lingam tape to probe the allegation of judiciary fixing.

Following 17 days of hearings, the RCI’s report released in May 2008 recommended that former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Lingam and four others be investigated.

The four are former chief justices Ahmad Fairuz and Eusoff Chin, Umno secretary-general and former minister Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor and business tycoon Vincent Tan.
