A historian has urged Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) to investigate a paper on Malay maritime history written by two of its academics, who have been accused of misrepresenting some facts.
This comes after Museum Bahari in Jakarta officially denied that the model is a Malay junk, which the two researchers said is displayed at its museum as part of its catalogue.
Ranjit Singh Malhi said the academics’ integrity has been “seriously questioned” following the rebuttal.
According to Ranjit, this was especially after one of the researchers claimed that she had visited Museum Bahari personally and saw the model being exhibited there.
“Rozita Che Rodi, in a Facebook post, claims she had ‘visited the museum personally and saw the model exhibited’.
“On the contrary, Museum Bahari’s authorities have now confirmed that the junk in question is not part of its catalogue and that it resembles a Chinese junk.
“Hence, Rozita’s academic integrity, which is the soul of academia, has been seriously questioned.
“Accordingly, UPM authorities have no choice but to immediately launch an investigation to ascertain the truth which is most necessary to uphold its reputation,” he said.

HOW LOW CAN ACADEMIA GO!
Shame, shame, shame, shame!
Reading Rozita Che Rodi (UPM) and Hashim Musa (UPM) ‘The Jongs and The Galleys: Traditional Ships of The Past Malay Maritime Civilization’ in International Journal of Academic Research in Business and Social Sciences, Vol.13, Issue 11, 2023.

Of Jongs.
1/ the photo does not show a Malay Jong but a Foochow Pole Junk from China (photo 1).
2/ the model is not in the Maritime Museum of Jakarta but in the Royal Museums of Greenwich, England (ID: AAE0200). In a museum all exhibits have an Identification Number (photo 2).

And Galleys.
3/ In the Malay Concordance Project, galley is not mentioned twice in the Sejarah Melayu (ed. A. Samad Ahmad), but six times! All in connection with the arrival of the Portuguese in Melaka (confirmed by the Portuguese sources), never in the “Malacca armada”. Galley was never used by local mariner during the Malacca Sultanate period. Most Southeast Asian Navy start adopting galley in their fleet after the advent of Portuguese-Ottoman to SEA. The galley, Mendam Berahi, of Hikayat Hang Tuah (seventeenth century) is an anachronism.
4/ International Journal of Academic Research… where is the peer-review?

Salih Hudayar (سالىھ خۇدايار)

He founded the East Turkistan National Awakening Movement and has since been leading the movement calling for the “restoration of East Turkistan’s independence.”
On November 11, 2019, Hudayar was elected as the Prime Minister of the East Turkistan Government-in-Exile.[6][7] Hudayar was born in Artush, East Turkistan (Xinjiang) and studied International Studies and Political Science at the University of Oklahoma[8] and holds American citizenship. At the 9th East Turkistan General Assembly which took place from November 10-12, 2023 in the Washington Capitol Region, Salih Hudayar was appointed as the East Turkistan Government in Exile’s new Foreign Minister.

#China‘s propaganda narrative that the US aims to “separate Xinjiang from China” is a LIE that contradicts reality.
Firstly, #EastTurkistan, which Chinese imperialists and colonists label as “#Xinjiang (The Colony/New Territory),” is NOT a “part of China”.
#EastTurkistan, historically known as Turkistan, existed as an independent nation until its forcible occupation and colonization by China. Since the Manchu Qing conquest of East Turkistan in 1877, the Uyghur and other Turkic peoples of the East Turkistan have steadfastly resisted Chinese occupation, striving to reclaim their rightful independence.
We successfully declared independence as the #EastTurkistanRepublic on November 12, 1933, until Soviet intervention in April 1934. Subsequently, we once again declared independence as the East Turkistan Republic on November 12, 1944, until the People’s Republic of China, under the Chinese Communists, forcibly overthrew our state on December 22, 1949. Since then, we have continuously resisted against Chinese occupation with the aim of restoring East Turkistan’s national independence.
Unfortunately, despite our appeals, the international community, including the US, has turned a deaf ear to our struggle to restore East Turkistan’s national independence.
However, China’s heightened paranoia, propaganda, and suppression tactics highlight one undeniable truth: the fervent desire of East Turkistanis to regain their independence strikes fear into China’s heart. We will never relent in our struggle to restore East Turkistan’s independence, regardless of whether the US or other powers choose to support us. The truth is on our side; East Turkistan is NOT a part of China, and truth will ultimately lead us to victory.
