Selina Wang, CNN International Correspondent based in Asia: Visit to Dali (大利侗寨), a tiny village in southeast Guizhou province

After three years of covid, we went deep into rural China for Lunar New Year. Here's the story of what we found & how officials tried to stop us. @cnn https://t.co/Yk5Eua9SeI pic.twitter.com/JvccZHM07E

The villagers are open and kind, allowing us into their homes and letting us join in on their Lunar New Year traditions – like making fresh ciba (sticky rice treat), drinking their homemade rice liquor, and witnessing the pig slaughtering & feast afterwards.

I wonder how the government minders in Dali will write up a report on our trip for their bosses in the propaganda department. They witnessed us befriend and learn from the hardworking Dali villagers, who are willing to do whatever it takes to give their children a better life
