What does it mean when a paper is retracted?
The retraction of an article is the removal of an already published article from a journal. This decision may be made by the journal’s editor and/or editorial board. Retractions do not happen because of small editorial errors. An article would be corrected in this case.

Retracted articles are not ‘unpublished’ or ‘withdrawn’ so that they can be published elsewhere; usually the reasons for the retraction are so serious that the whole study, or large parts of it, are not appropriate for inclusion in the scientific literature anywhere.
