Cartoonist Zunar has joined the chorus of condemnation against Malaysian-born actress Michelle Yeoh for her involvement in a movie to be made about the 1MDB scandal.

Zunar, the pen name of Zulkiflee SM Anwar Ulhaque, called Yeoh’s lack of principles appalling, and said she was far worse than loyalists of former premier Najib Abdul Razak.

Yeoh’s involvement in the production of a movie based on Tom Wright and Bradley Hope’s Billion Dollar Whale he said, exposed the actor as one who “supports a friend when he is in power, and steps on him when he has fallen.

“Before the 13th general election … Yeoh openly urged the people to give their support to then-prime minister Najib. She said this in Klang, when Najib was still in power.

“Now that he has lost (the election), Yeoh announces she will come out with a film that exposes the 1MDB scandal, a scandal that is linked to Najib’s acts of corruption.

“In just a few months, the glitter of power and money can change everything, Michelle?” he said in a statement today.

Ellie ‘1,000 times better’

Compared to Yeoh, Zunar said, even Najib loyalists like actor Ellie Suriani are more deserving of respect.

He pointed to Ellie standing by Najib despite facing numerous charges of corruption and abuse linked to 1MDB.

“I do not agree with Elly for supporting Najib, but at the very least, she shows loyalty and solidarity whether one is on the up or down.

“As for Yeoh, you may be famous in Hollywood and can amass a lot of money. In Malaysia, we value your character, not your wealth or popularity.

“This country cannot progress if it produces more people who have principles like Yeoh,” he said, adding that Ellie has shown “1,000 times better quality” than the Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon star.

Yeoh been silent since the collapse of Najib Razak and Barisan Nasional government on May 9th, 2018. Two days ago (September 20), she posted on her Facebook and Instagram about the new book by the Wall Street Journal on 1MDB scandal. Her message – “I’m loving this brilliantly reported new book by journalists Bradley Hope and Thomas Wright. #billiondollarwhale Fascinating book.”

Did she actually know who Jho Low is in the “Billion Dollar Whale” book? Did she realize that Jho Low was his favourite ex-Prime Minister Najib Razak’s partner-in-crime who had stolen between US$4 billion and US$6 billion of Malaysian taxpayers’ hard-earned money? Heck, did the Bond girl even read the book fully and discovered that his idol Najib was nothing but the world’s biggest crook?

Even without the revelation of 1MDB scandal published by Bradley Hope and Thomas Wright, the fact that Michelle Yeoh had chosen to ignore the Shahrizat’s RM250 million Cowgate scandal in 2011 under Najib administration speaks volumes about the level of hypocrisy demonstrated by the Malaysian actress Michelle Yeoh Choo-Kheng.

If drama queen Michelle Yeoh’s intention was trying to steal some limelightfrom the 1MDB scandal, she should realize that the heroine isn’t her but British investigative journalist Clare Rewcastle Brown. After Yeoh praised Najib in 2013 and disappeared thereafter, it was Ms. Clare who had courageously fought the despicable Najib from 2013 until the downfall of the crook this year.

“We are very proud to recognise the fact that he was the one who championed this in the first place as a good neighbour and doing the right thing as a human being. Our PM has shown great leadership together with the Bangladeshi government with our partners in Saudi (Arabia) and UAE (United Arab Emirates),” she told reporters during her visit to the Rohingya refugees’ area here Saturday.

GE13: Michelle Yeoh stands by her decision to back Najib

Wednesday, 24 Apr 2013

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Michelle Yeoh has defended her decision to openly support Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

She said everyone was free to give their views in Malaysia.

“This is a democratic country and we are free to voice our opinion.

“I believe all of us want to do good for our country.

“I believe they want to do the same thing,” the Ipoh-born actress told Channel News Asia of those who criticised her decision.

The interview was picked up by China Press.

Yeoh openly expressed support for the Prime Minister at a gathering organised by the Federation of Chinese Descendents of Selangor on Saturday.

“We have a leader here who has done so many good things and will do more.

“I hope from the bottom of my heart that he will remain as the Prime Minister and I ask all of you to give him a strong mandate,” she told the crowd at the mammoth gathering organised to show support for Najib.

Yeoh had attended the dinner in Westport, Port Klang despite cyber bullies attacking her on Facebook prior to the event.

A netizen had said that she was once Malaysian people’s pride but no longer.

Another netizen had asked Yeoh if she had “any idea how her fellow countrymen live” before urging the 49-year-old actress to reconsider her decision and “not become a traitor”.

However, others including her father Datuk Yeoh Kian Tiek, came to Yeoh’s defence, reminding netizens that she had the right to support any political party.

Kian Tiek said people should be more understanding as his daughter had the freedom to decide whatever dinner or event she wanted to attend.

“It is her decision and they should respect it,” said her father.
