KOTA KINABALU: Sabah police confirmed as false the allegation that Sabah PKR youth chief Raymond Ahuar was involved in a rape case as circulated in social media last week.

State Police Commissioner Datuk Omar Mammah said a report was lodged by two alleged victims aged 23 and 36 in Keningau on Sept 24.

“It is true the two women had made police reports that both were raped by a man, but the individual is not Sabah PKR youth chief.

“The real suspect, who is a local aged 31, was arrested a day after report was made and he admitted committing the offence,” he said, adding the case was being investigated under Section 376 of Penal Code for rape.

He was speaking to reporters after the National Security Council meeting here.

The rape allegation against Raymond, 33, who is also political secretary to Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Christina Liew, appeared on a video that was uploaded on social media.

Omar also reminded the public to stop sharing the video and report which were slander.

Cops refute claim Sabah DCM’s aide involved in rape

Sabah police have denied that Raymond Ahuar, political secretary to Deputy Sabah Chief Minister Christina Liew, was involved in the rape of two Indonesian women.

Bernama quoted state police commissioner Omar Mammah (above) as saying cops have already arrested a 31-year-old suspect in Keningau and urged the public not to spread fake news.

He was responding to claims being spread on social media alleging that the PKR leader was involved in the crime. The claim comes amidst the ongoing PKR elections in which Raymond is contesting for the PKR Youth deputy chief’s post.

“We ask all quarters not to spread false news and to stop making speculations,” Omar was quoted as saying.

PETALING JAYA (THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK) – Malaysia’s Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad is all right, unlike a viral message featuring two photos which paint a picture that he fell (tersungkur) during prayers (Solat Sunat Aidiladha) at Masjid Negara on Wednesday (Aug 22) morning.

The message, which is spreading on WhatsApp and Facebook, show a picture of Dr Mahathir standing while an unidentified man holds his arm, followed by another photo of him bent over on the floor, supporting himself with his hands.

The message said that the Prime Minister had tripped in the mosque as he was “stressed out over various reasons”.

However, an aide close to Dr Mahathir debunked the fake news as “propaganda”.

“He did not trip… he is doing okay,” he told The Star.

In reality, the aide said that the sequence of pictures taken by blogger Minaq Jinggo was reversed, and the original sequence of photos show Dr Mahathir getting up after performing prayers.

“The photos were meant to tell the world that PM7 (the seventh prime minister, Dr Mahathir) is able to lift himself up without assistance. He is still very fit to do so even with little rest after the trip to China,” said the veteran photographer to The Star.

BALIK PULAU: A school in Teluk Kumbar, Penang, denies that it is the venue for a “masturbation contest” as alleged in a viral screenshot of a Facebook post.

A senior assistant principal of the school lodged a police report over the matter on Thursday (Aug 16).

OCPD Supt A.A. Anbalagan said the assistant principal learnt about the post on July 30 and he alerted the school’s principal the next day.

The post claimed that the competition would be held at the school at 2pm on Sunday (Aug 19).

Supt Anbalagan said that they found the event was posted on Facebook under the profile of “Ayang Manja” and the screenshot was also shared through WhatsApp groups.

He said the school denied that such a contest taking place and this fake news had tarnished its reputation.

“Initial investigations show that the complainant had received the message and the Facebook post was also spread online,” he said.

Fake news about the Selangor water situation?

19 March 2018

Ministry should stop falsehoods about S’gor water

Published on  |  Modified on

LETTER | Selangor’s Water Reserve Margin Above 5%, Increasing to 11%

The secretary-general (KSU) of Ministry of Energy, Green Technology and Water (Kettha), Zaini Ujang, has been on a political crusade against the Selangor government for the past week.

Not only has his behaviour been highly unprofessional for a senior member of the civil service, he has falsely presented the facts about Selangor’s water situation.

Over the last week, Zaini has issued several statements and social media postings that have backed up the attacks on Selangor’s water from Umno/BN that began just days before scheduled repairs on the Sungai Selangor Phase 3 (SSP3) Water Treatment Plant.

False Figures from Ministry

The most misleading claim put forward by Zaini is that Selangor’s water reserve margin is at 0%.

He has based this false claim on a table in the Malaysian Water Industry Guide (MWIG) 2017. However, the photo of the table he posted on Twitter had the footnote cropped.

Had he read the footnote, or had he chosen not to conceal it from the public, he would have seen that it says that Selangor’s actual reserve margin was 2.2% and 4.4% for 2015 and 2016, respectively, not 0% as he claimed. (A copy of the full page is attached to this release; p. 21 MWIG 2017).

Kedah was also listed with a 0% reserve in the MWIG 2017, with no redeeming footnote. Why is there no fuss from Kettha about Kedah? Why is there only an emotional focus on Selangor, which UMNO/BN has been trying to smear ahead of the General Election?

In his press conference last week, Zaini deepened his allegation by claiming that Selangor’s reserve margin now is 0%. This is either sloppiness or a deception of the highest order.

His own Minister Maximus Ongkili on Tuesday reported to Parliament that Selangor’s margin is currently at 3%, not 0% according to Zaini. This can be read by all in the official Parliamentary Hansard.

Lately, Selangor has been the victim of an epidemic of faulty figures from BN, starting with Rahman Dahlan and Eric See-To, now the latest comes from the top leadership of Kettha.

The Truth about Selangor’s Water Situation

For their information, Selangor’s water reserve margin at the beginning of 2018 was 3.5%, not 0%.

The reserve margin in March 2018 is currently 5.4%, not 0%. This is because Selangor spent RM 177.5 million to bring the Semenyih 2 Water Treatment Plant online last month. Our dams are 100% full across the state. This is why there have been no water shortages this year.

Here’s a teaser. By the end of 2018, our reserve margin is expected to be 9.6% and it will rise to 11% by 2019. That’s 11%, not 0%. Why the big jump?

The completion of part one of the Langat 2 Water Treatment Plant in June 2018 and the Labohan Dagang Water Treatment Plant in January 2019, will raise Selangor’s water reserve margin to 11% in 2019.

Selangor Water Reserves:

  • Early 2018: 3.5%
  • March 2018: 5.4%
  • End 2018: 9.6%
  • 2019: 11%

Rather than playing politics with the peoples’ water, Kettha should be supporting Selangor’s efforts. It is unbecoming for a senior civil servant to take such a partisan line in his official duties. It affects his responsibility to discharge his duties fairly and impartially to all states in the Federation.

I have been a victim of UMN/BN “fake news” for the last four decades – UMNO leaders accuse me of being anti-Malay while MCA leaders accuse me of being anti-Chinese and had sold out the rights of the Chinese to the Malays

“Fake News” is the latest fashion of the day. The present preoccupation with fake news was started by Donald Trump, the President of United States, and it has been taken up with gusto by the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Datuk Seri Najib Razak, not so much to combat fake news, but to provide the circumstances and wherewithal to concoct and peddle fake news with immunity and impunity while suppressing truth and embarrassing news emanating from the Opposition and civil society.

What Najib, just like Trump, is doing is to launch a “fake anti-fake news” campaign!

I have myself been a victim of UMNO/BN “fake news” for the last four decades – UMNO leaders accused me of being anti-Malay and anti-Islam while MCA leaders accuse me of being anti-Chinese and sold out the rights of the Chinese to the Malays!

How a person can be both anti-Malay and anti-Chinese I do not know.

DAP and I have also been accused of wanting to do away with Islam as the official religion and bring about a Christian Malaysia.

How is this possible when I am not even a Christian beggars belief.

DAP’s position on Islam as the official religion is clear and unequivocal, as we have many a time expressed full support for the basic constitutional provisions in the country.

It has always been my life-long political creed that no responsible political movement in Malaysia can be against any race or religion, that we must not be anti-Malay, anti-Chinese or anti-Indian, anti-Kadazan or anti-Iban, but must be pro-Malaysian and support the basic rights and interests of all Malaysians, regardless of race, religion, region or even politics.

UMNO leaders are trying to create fear among the Malays, warning the Malays of the “Chinese peril” and that the Malays would lose all their rights if UMNO is defeated in the forthcoming general election.

Is this true? Will the Malay lose all their rights if UMNO is defeated in the 14GE to be held within 60 days?

National Laureate, Pak Samad, can never understand how Malays will perish if UMNO loses in elections.

No UMNO leader had been able to answer the two questions posed by the National Laureate Pak Samad to expose such fake news and political lies, viz:

*How are Malays under threat? How can religion (Islam) and Malays be threatened when those in power have been Malay for six decades?

*What have they (Malay leaders) been doing in six decades (if Malays can be under threat)?”

The fears that UMNO leaders have been generating to keep themselves in power – that if UMNO is defeated in a general election, Malays will lose political power and become strangers in their own land – is a great double lie, for the Malays will not lose political power if UMNO is evicted from Putrajaya.

Three demographic factors, and even more important, a critical electoral factor, will prove that UMNO leaders were spouting lies and falsehoods when they try to panic Malays into thinking that without UMNO, Malays will perish.

The incontrovertible fact is that Malays will not lose political power whatever happens to Najib or to UMNO in the next general election.

In 1957, Malaya’s population comprised 49.8% Malays, 37.2% Chinese, 11.1% Indians and 2% Other.s

In 1970 Malaysia’s population comprised 44.32% Malays, 34.34% Chinese, 8.99% Indians, 11.89% non-Malay Bumiputeras, 0.67% others.

In 2010, the percentage of Malays in the Malaysian population increased to 55.07%, Chinese reduced to 24.34%, Indians dropped to 7.35%, non-Malay Bumiputeras maintained at 11.94% and 1.3% others.

The Malaysian Chief Statistician has predicted that the Chinese percentage of the population would shrink to 19.6% in 2030 and 18.9% in 2035.

Why then are the UMNO leaders continue to beat the drum of the “Chinese peril” in Malaysia?

During the 13th general election, 52.63% of the voters were Malays, 29.68% Chinese, 7.31% Indians, 8.96% non-Malay Bumiputeras and 1.43% others.

Out of the 165 Parliamentary seats in Peninsular Malaysia, 114 are Malay majority seats representing some 70%, 22 Chinese majority seats (13%) and 29 mixed seats. There is not a single Indian majority seat.

These triple demographic factors, which will be a continuing trend in the coming years, establish the overwhelming Malay predominance in the Malaysian political scene and why there is no way the Malays can lose political power if UMNO is defeated in a general election!

But apart from these three demographic factors, there is the critical democratic factor which will ensure that the Malays will not lose their rights and become strangers in their own land as warned by UMNO leaders.

We in Pakatan Harapan wants to win not just the 14th General Election, but also future general elections – the 15th, 16th and others thereafter.

A Pakatan Harapan Federal Government which wants its government mandate to be renewed in subsequent General Elections must be able prove in the next five years before the 15GE that a Pakatran Harapan Government in Putrajaya is better than UMNO/BN government for all Malaysians, whether Malays, Chinese, Indians, Kadazans, Ibans or Orang Asli or be voted out of Putrajaya in the 15th General Election in five years’ time.

The three demographic factors together with this critical electoral factor are the surest guarantee that the UMNO threat that Malays will perish if UMNO is defeated is an empty one, with no basis or truth whatsoever.
