Police probe terrorism factor in killing of policeman

PETALING JAYA: Police are looking into the possibility of a terrorist attack in the killing of a policeman at a police station in Subang Jaya today, said the Bukit Aman Special Branch director.
Mohamad Fuzi Harun was reported by Oriental Daily as saying he had directed the Special Branch Counter Terrorism Division to launch a separate probe but there were no leads yet.
“Police will investigate this case from several angles, including a possible terrorist attack. However, so far, there is no evidence pointing to terrorism or the involvement of a terrorist organisation,” he said in the report.
Lance Corporal Valentino anak Mesa, 29, who was manning the enquiry counter at the Pinggiran USJ police station in Subang Jaya, was found dead with gunshot and stab wounds early today.
His pistol was missing and believed to have been taken by his killer.

Cop murdered in Subang police station

SUBANG JAYA: A 29-year-old lance corporal was shot dead in a police station on Jalan TP 7/2 here early Thursday.
The victim, believed to be L/Corporal Valentino Mesa, was found in a pool of blood by policemen during a routine patrol stop at Pinggiran Subang Jaya police station around 3.25am.
It is learnt that Mesa was on duty alone at the station at the time.
Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Mazlan Mansor said policemen arrived to find the station in darkness.
“The lights were turned off. When they went in, they found him,” he said when met at the scene.
The victim, who was shot once and slashed on the back of his head, had joined the force in 2010.
Comm Mazlan said several witnesses said they had heard explosions at around 2.40am, but dismissed it as fireworks set off to celebrate National Day.
“We believe that could have been the time the incident took place,” he said.
The victim’s pistol was also missing from the scene.
