Khairy Jamaluddin speaks on Malays and the quota system
Khairy said Malays should feel insulted by the quota system that gives them the advantage in enrolment at local universities.
He urged Malays “to compete on a level playing field” to get rid of the stigma of being beneficiaries of a system which is rigged in their favour.
He claimed to be aware of discrimination and the notion that Malays entering local universities were below par and were accepted because of the quota requirements.

Umno sec-gen: 30pct Malay quota insulting as bumis make up 60pct
Umno secretary-general Tengku Adnan Mansor agrees with the party’s Youth chief that the quota system favouring Malays in various policies in an insult to the community.
However, Tengku Adnan’s reasoning for backing Khairy differs from the youth and sports minister’s rationale that the quotas are keeping the Malays on crutches.
“I am with Khairy. Why do we have a 30 percent quota? If we go by demographics, Malays and bumiputera make up 50 to 60 percent of the demographics, but most people don’t realise that we are being moderate,” he said.

Umno man: Malays are ‘masters’ here, deserve special privileges
.

.
KUALA LUMPUR, April 22 ― An Umno Supreme Council member rejected today any suggestion that the quota system is insulting to the Malay community.
According to Datuk Sohaimi Shahadan, the Malays and Bumiputera are “masters” in the land, and forever deserve any special privileges accorded to them.
“As ‘masters’ on our own land, Bumiputeras or Malays indeed deserves to enjoy the privileges at all times, although we have succeeded in narrowing the gap between races in the country,” he said in a statement, as reported by Sinar Harian.
He said there is no problem with the current quota system, and neither is it insulting to other ethnic communities.
Sohaimi said although Malays and Bumiputeras make up the majority in the country, they have not even reached 30 per cent of local millionaires.
He also said that the Malays and Bumiputeras are minorities in private universities.
