MACC ‘talks to’ UMNO’s Malacca Chief Minister: Don’t speculate, OK?

NO CORRUPT PRACTICES IN UMNO’S MALACCA?

ON 22 AUGUST 2016, the Malacca Chief Minister had commented on the arrest of a 56-year-old senior government officer in the state and with the title ‘Datuk’ on charges related to corruption, “If it is true there are corrupt practices here, I would not allow such officers to be stationed in Malacca and they be replaced by officers that are clean.”

Idris Haron: I gave MACC information on two other graft investigations

MALACCA: Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) officers garnered information on two other high-profile corruption cases in the state apart from the 55-year-old local council officer, revealed Chief Minister Datuk Seri Idris Haron (pic).

Idris said the meeting on Monday with MACC was to provide crucial information on the all the anti-graft cases that were reported throughout 2016.

“MACC officers were very polite and appreciated my willingness to assist in the ongoing investigations.

“It is disappointing that a daily painted me as one of those being investigated without getting their facts right.

“The editors should be held accountable for the inaccurate reporting that used by the Opposition to undermine my efforts in combating corruption,” he said after chairing the weekly Exco meeting at Seri Negeri here on Wednesday.

Malacca CM just a witness in graft probe, says MACC

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 10 — The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) confirmed today recording a statement from Malacca Chief Minister Datuk Seri Idris Haron.

However, deputy chief commissioner of operations Datuk Azam Baki stressed that Idris is only a witness for a graft case involving a state civil servant who was detained last November.

“MACC officers had gone to his office in Malacca at 2pm yesterday to assist in investigation under Section 23 of the MACC Act 2009,” he said in a statement.

Under Section 23, a public officer commits an offence when he uses his position or office for gratification for himself, his family or associate, whether directly or indirectly.

Azam said he could not divulge further information to protect the integrity of the investigation.

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) seized documents from Malacca Chief Minister Idris Haron’s office in a surprise visit yesterday, the New Straits Times reported.

The CM was also questioned during the raid which lasted four hours, the daily reported.

The anti-graft body left with “several boxes” of evidence to facilitate an ongoing investigation on a civil servant who “also had links to the chief minister’s office”, it said.

The civil servant’s bank account containing millions of ringgit have also been frozen, the daily reported.

The raid was conducted by a team from the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya, it said.

Meanwhile, Bukit Katil MP Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin said the MACC action was welcomed but it remained to be seen if the agency would nab a big fish or a small fry.

He noted MACC’s visit to Idris’ office came after a “datuk” senior government officer was arrested on Nov 28 and RM11 million in 22 of his bank accounts frozen.

The MACC also arrested a contractor and froze another RM12 million in 24 bank accounts.
