All airports are vulnerable to terrorist attack.
Now that the Islamic State has openly declared their intention to attack targets in Malaysia, it would be foolhardy and negligent not to take extra precaution at our airports.
At ALL our airports.

Cabinet wants security to be stepped up at airports
NEW DELHI: The Cabinet wants security to be increased at Malaysia’s international airports in the wake of terrorists attacks at similar facilities abroad, said Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
The Deputy Prime Minister said deploying more auxiliary policemen, undercover detectives and soldiers to carry out joint patrols at airport buildings were among the proposals included at Cabinet’s meeting last Wednesday.
Dr Ahmad Zahid said the move also includes directing airports to install more high-definition CCTV cameras and facial recognition equipment at immigration counters.
“We hope the people will understand why we want to do this. We cannot allow our airport security to be compromised.
“I have discussed this matter with the Transport Minister and I believe that the blue ocean strategy of collaboration on airport security will be a success,” he told Malaysian journalists here Monday.
He was asked to elaborate on the Government’s proposal to allow only air passengers to enter terminals at all major airports in Malaysia to enhance security.

‘Passengers-only rule will kill retailers’
Better to have thorough screening of family members rather than barring them from airport terminals, says Matta.

PETALING JAYA: The proposal to allow only air passengers into airports will turn the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) into a ghost hub, warned the Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (Matta).
Its president, Hamzah Rahmat, feared the move, touted to boost security against possible terrorist attacks, would give a poor first impression of Malaysia to foreign visitors.
“There are countless other ways of improving security.
“KLIA is the first point of entry for tourists and the first experience of Malaysia,” he told The Star.
He pointed out there were fewer people at KLIA after the Low-Cost Carrier Terminal (LCCT) started operating and after that klia2.
Retailers at KLIA, who pay premium rentals, he said, “will die” because there would not be enough passengers for it to be profitable.
Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had on Friday announced a proposal to allow only air passengers inside terminals to boost security.

ULAANBAATAR, MONGOLIA – The Malaysian government is mulling a proposal to allow only air passengers to enter terminals at all major airports to tighten security, according to state media.
Only passengers will be allowed at the check-in counters while those sending them off would be kept outside the building or restricted to group at a particular place, said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi
He was speaking to journalists at the 11th Asia-Europe Meeting (Asem) Summit here on Friday (July 15).
“The Cabinet had instructed Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai to work out this proposal with MAHB (Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad),” Dr Ahmad Zahid was quoted as saying by the Bernama news agency.
Dr Ahmad Zahid, who is leading the Malaysian delegation to the Asem Summit, said Datuk Seri Liow was also asked to find a way to prevent vehicles sending off or waiting for air passengers from parking near terminals.
The proposal to tighten airport security comes after an attack at the Istanbul Ataturk Airport last month that killed 45 people and wounded hundreds, the deadliest in a series of bombings this year in Turkey.

Wondering if Malaysian airports have increased vigilance by 200%. On the face of it, security seems quite lax.
