It’s a “Who dunnit”!

Who placed the tea bags and then removed them? Will they catch the litterbug?

Tea tree in Bukit Merah? Not quite

A clue to the litterer behind the ‘Tea Tree’ of Bukit Merah View. He likes Dilmah tea

Tanjong Pagar GRC MP on hunt for litterer behind ‘tea bag tree’. He likes Dilmah, she says

By DAVID SUN and TANIA VALENSIA

A “tea bag tree” has been seen in Bukit Merah View. But it is not a tree that grows tea leaves.

Instead, the dozen or so tea bags that hang from it are used and discarded, believed to be thrown by an unknown person from the HDB block behind the 2.5m-tall palm tree.

Tanjong Pagar GRC MP Indranee Rajah noticed it at Block 129 on Monday morning.

She posted photos of it on her Facebook, cheekily calling it “tea bag tree”.

The tea bags have since been cleared up.

Ms Indranee said in her post: “The tree has since been de-bagged. The culprit, though, has yet to be bagged.”

I don’t think it’s necessarily inconsiderate. Just tacky and lacking in artistic sense, that’s all. via

SINGAPORE – Tanjong Pagar GRC MP Indranee Rajah chanced upon a “tea bag” tree on Monday in Bukit Merah View.

She wrote on her Facebook page that she was taking a walk around the common spaces in the area around Blocks 128, 129 and 130 after celebrating a “Cleaners Appreciation Day” when she noticed the tree, which was “adorned with tea bags obviously thrown from a higher floor and which had snagged on the leaves and branches”

The Tea Bag Tree of Bukit Merah View

We’ve all heard of the tea tree – plant varieties related to the myrtle (myrtaceae) family, found mostly in Australia and NZ.

There’s also the Melaleuca tree (Melaleuca alternifolia) which produces tea tree oil.

But a tea bag tree?

Unfortunately, this species does exist, though one would much prefer it did not.

After the Cleaner Appreciation event yesterday afternoon (see post below), I took a walk around the common space at blks 128, 129 and 130 Bukit Merah View and checked out the environment.

Was dismayed to see this palm tree adorned with tea bags, obviously thrown from a higher floor and which had snagged on the leaves and branches. It was like a Christmas tree except that instead of pretty ornaments, this poor tree was festooned with used Dilmah tea bags!
