The Miss Chinese International 2015 pageant concluded on January 25, with Mandy Chai (蔡美霆) from Sydney, Australia winning the crown. Veronica Shiu (邵珮詩) from Hong Kong won first runner-up, while Catherine Hui (惠櫸喬) from New York, United States won second runner-up. Christina Jin (金詩迪) from Auckland, New Zealand received the Miss Friendship award.

Sweeping the awards at Miss Hong Kong earlier, Veronica Shiu once again demonstrated her strength in dancing by performing to Michael Jackson’s Moonwalk. The 24-year-old was satisfied with own performance and felt that she had already done her best. Commenting on Mandy’s victory, Veronica said, “She deserves the crown as she performed very well and displayed a good sense of humor. Perhaps I lost in this aspect.”

Despite the 150,000 votes Veronica Shiu (邵珮詩) received for the Miss Hong Kong 2014 pageant crown, controversies surrounding her win are still rampant. The media recently uncovered that Veronica’s grandfather, Shiu Wai Ming (邵蔚明), is one of the founders behind the popular Vitasoy brand. The beverage giant has a long-term advertising partnership with TVB.
With Vitasoy’s $10.3 billion HKD market capitalization, Veronica’s family wealth is even more impressive than previous winner, Grace Chan (陳凱琳), whose father is a multi-millionare.
TVB Deputy Director of External Affairs, Tsang Sing Ming (曾醒明), confirmed that Vitasoy has been a long-standing partner with TVB. But Veronica expressed that she did not receive special treatment because of her grandfather’s money.
“Everyone saw my performance that night, and I won because of my ability. My grandfather didn’t do anything to help me.” Veronica added, “The pageant staff and the contestants did not know who my grandfather is. I’m not sure about Vitasoy and TVB’s partnership, as I never asked my grandfather. I just know that he supported me spiritually and told me to do my best.”

Beauty Pageants added 2 new photos.34 mins ·The newly crowned Miss Hong Kong Veronica Shiu is not eligible for the Miss World beauty contest, as she is over age, but she still will represent Hong Kong at Miss Chinese International Pageant 2015 next year.
The 1st Runner-up Erin Wong will be instead of Veronica to represent Hong Kong China at Miss World 2014. Erin is 23 years old and stands 5’6”(1.68m).
