‘I will not cross the Causeway until my name is cleared’
He was just about to start work on the morning of July 29 when he received a Facebook message that shocked him.
“Eh, a******, u got problem is it?”
It was from a stranger and it was a message that left him confused, claimed Mr Kelvin Yip.
“I had no idea what it was about initially,” the 30-year-old driving instructor told The New Paper.
“At first, I thought he got the wrong person, but the stranger then sent me a screen grab of a racist comment made by a person who had the same name as me.”
While a check on Facebook revealed at least 50 other people sharing the same name, Mr Yip said he was targeted only after Malaysian netizens posted a picture of him and his girlfriend Miss Jolene Koh online, claiming he was the culprit.
…

…
Fearing he would be further targeted for “something I did not do,” Mr Yip said he decided to report the matter to the authorities.
The police have confirmed that a report was made. Mr Yip is also seeking legal advice.
“It is a case of mistaken identity and someone took my picture from my public Facebook page and spread it online,” claimed the bachelor, who lives in an Ang Mo Kio four-room flat with his parents.
…
Mr Yip claimed he did not know who made the offending post. The other Kelvin Yip has since deleted his Facebook page.
…
Mr Yip said: “My friends, family and even employers have been very supportive because they know I could not have done such a thing.
“My employers also advised me to make a police report when they learnt of the incident. I also needed to make the report since I felt like a wanted man in Malaysia.

Internet vigilantes target wrong Kelvin Yip
Singaporean Yip is shocked to receive nasty messages left by Malaysian netizens seeking justice after another Facebook user by the same name posted racist rants last week.
A Facebook user in Singapore going by the name Kelvin Yip is now the target of an Internet witch hunt after being mistaken for the infamous Kelvin Yip of Malaysia who caused an uproar with his racists rants recently.
Kelvin Yip, a 30-year-old driving instructor received the first threatening message on July 29, followed by a screen grab consisting of pictures of him and his girlfriend.
This caused an onslaught of abusive messages to be left on Yip’s Facebook page and numerous friend requests from complete strangers.
Speaking to Singapore’s The New Paper, Yip said, “I’m still shocked by this because I have absolutely nothing to do with this incident (in Malaysia).”

NO ESCAPE, KELVIN YIP! Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin wants you to be charged, and you can expect that to happen.
NOT EVEN WITH AN APOLOGY.

Dear Kelvin Yip, Islam promotes love and forgiveness. Fret not, we forgave your stupid antics. pic.twitter.com/3wYoWW3Oj6

This is the offensive post. Such stupidity!
…
BUT IS KJ ANY CLEVERER WHEN HE MAKES A CONNECTION BETWEEN KIKI-CDM26 AND KELVIN YIP?
Youth Minister @KhairyKJ can call for the heaviest punishment on Kelvin Yip,no problem, but for KJ to link Yip to Kiki, that’s mischievous.Kiki’s was road rage while Yip was an inconsiderate, even stupid ranter on FB.Ada sama?
This country is like a live wire now.Kiki, Shahul Hamid, Kelvin Yip – when can we learn to laugh at stupidity and be furious at actual crime.Politicians unfortunately are not helping,at all.Sorry rakyat,we disappoint you.
Sekali lagi pemimpin mcm @KhairyKJ cuba meniupkan isu perkauman.

KJ: If Kiki charged, so should ‘loud prayers’ critic

Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin has urged the youth who criticised the volume of prayers from a mosque on Facebook to be charged just like the road rage perpetrator Siti Fairrah Ashykin Kamaruddin or Kiki, had been.
…
“Act strict and fast towards anyone guilty without considering their race,” said Khairy in a Facebook posting. He was commenting on a youth Kelvin Yip who on Facebook had angrily complained of the volume of morning prayer recitals in his vicinity during the Hari Raya celebrations.
Yip had allegedly posted strong words filled with expletives saying, “Eh hello bastards…I know its Hari Raya and all but please … keep your prayers to the almighty off some loudspeaker at 6.45 in the morning…it’s annoying…”
The youth however was quick to delete the post and apologise after being cautioned by several Facebook users.
In a search done by Malaysiakini, it was discovered that Yip also has since deactivated his Facebook account.
