Ahmad Maslan must have flunked geography
Pputeh: “Open the world map, show the 200 countries (in the world), done. What else is there to learn in geography?” Deputy Finance Minister Ahmad Maslan asked during a press conference in Kuala Lumpur.
Please, minister, I think you did not learn geography in school or your teacher had failed to teach you well. There is so much to learn in geography.
Have you heard of ‘learning geography using the soles of your feet’? It means you go to the ground on field trips to see and feel the soil, rocks and rock formation, valleys, mountains and rivers.
It’s not only about regional geography, but countries size, crops, climate and settlements. I can go on and on. Maslan must have slept through in class or got an F9 for geography.
…
Asitis: What a shallow analysis of the problem coming from a simpleton’s mind. Malays and non-Malays are taught many different subjects in school.
…
Astounded: Don’t generalise, Ahmad Maslan. How many Chinese have parents who are in business? There are many Malays who operate small businesses too. I am sure their children help out in the business after school.
When can we stop racial profiling? Malaysia will never progress when ministers continue to look at the country’s citizens according to their respective races. Having entrepreneurship as a subject in school is not a problem with me, it is the racial profiling.
Equatorial Man: Indeed, not all Chinese are involved in businesses. I am sure that out of every Chinese who are successful in business, there are many others who fail.

‘Chinese kids do business, Malay kids shoot birds’

Stressing on the importance of entrepreneurship, Deputy Finance Minister Ahmad Maslan lamented on the difference between Malay and Chinese children.
“Chinese children, even though they are not taught entrepreneurship in school, they come home and go to their parents’ grocery shops to learn.
“They help their parents in grocery shops, factories, they go to their parents’ companies.
“But Malay children are not like that. They shoot birds with a slingshot under the oil palm trees, bathe in waterfalls and drains. When can Malays be entrepreneurs?” he asked.
In view of this, he suggested that the government shorten the teaching time allocated for geography in secondary schools and include a subject called “entrepreneurship”.
“Open the world map, show the 200 countries (in the world), done. What else is there to learn in geography?” Ahmad asked during a press conference in Kuala Lumpur.
…
He also explained the rationale behind introducing the “entrepreneurship” subject at the secondary school level.
He said that it was an effort to create more entrepreneurs, especially among the bumiputera, and this would help Malaysia become a high-income nation.
…
Apart from this, he said learning from the Chinese, who are generally adept in business, is also another method to improve the entrepreneurship in Malaysia.
The deputy minister described the Chinese as “bangsa usahawan” (race of entrepreneurs), Malays as “bangsa makan gaji” (race of wage earners) and Indians as “bangsa professional” (race of professionals).
“Malays and Indians should learn from the Chinese,” he said.

His comments have sparked national fury in Brazil, a traditionally male-dominated society where 137 sexual assaults are reported daily.
Too ‘ugly’ to rape: Brazilian lawmaker’s comment sparks fury http://str.sg/ZSX
BRASILIA (AFP) – A debate about sexual violence in Brazil sparked by a lawmaker’s comments on the floor of Congress has spread beyond government chambers, triggering a national debate about rape and sexism in the South American nation.
Opposition congressman Jair Bolsonaro told Ms Maria do Rosario Nunes in Congress he would not rape her “because she was not worth it”.
Then, he said it again.
“Stay here Maria do Rosario!” he yelled during a parliamentary session on Dec 9, the eve of International Human Rights Day.
“It’s been several days since you called me a rapist, and I said that I did not rape you because you weren’t worth it,” the 59-year-old retired soldier yelled at Ms Rosario Nunes.
It was not clear under what circumstances Ms Rosario Nunes called him a rapist, as alleged.
The rival lawmakers have been at loggerheads for years, and Mr Bolsonaro was reacting after an angry debate about the 1964-1985 military dictatorship, under which he served and still supports.

THE THINGS SAID IN THIS NOTE GO BEYOND SILLY. They are demeaning, hurtful and despicable!
Senior nurse in S’pore cries after getting nasty note from patient — who calls her ‘idiot’ http://bit.ly/1GXmSTx

Here is the note reproduced in full, addressed to a ‘Missy Ong’:
“If you are old and slow, you should retire now.
“You take more than 5 minutes every time I press the bell for help. And you take more than 10 minutes just to fetch me water.
” Even an idiot can do your job, stupid bitch! Nurses are supposed to serve us patients.
“I pay hundreds of dollars every day I’m in this hospital, and you’re not worth a single cent.”
It was written by a patient at a hospital in Singapore to a senior nurse.
This is what the daughter of the senior nurse wrote:
“It was from a patient who had been admitted for less than a week and she had been verbally abusing my mother, calling her “stupid”, “idiot” and “b*tch”.
“Once, she even spat on her when the hospital food was not to her liking.

These were very expensive words to say. He joked, “I’m carrying C-4 explosives.”
Doctor who cracked a joke about bomb in luggage at US airport fined US$89,172
RT @STForeignDesk: Doctor who cracked joke about bomb in luggage at #US airport fined $116,000 http://bit.ly/1FIBZ2x
MIAMI (AFP) – A doctor thought it might be funny to crack a joke about a bomb in his luggage. Instead, he partly forced the evacuation of Miami International airport, and earned a fine of more than $116,000.
Dr Manuel Alvarado, 60, will pay US$89,172 (S$116,330) for his “momentary lapse of reason in making these statements” that prompted costly evacuations and delays for airlines, and brought out a police bomb squad, said his lawyer Brian Bieber.
Just before boarding an Avianca flight to Bogota on Oct 22, a security officer asked Dr Alvarado routine questions; the Venezuelan doctor responded that he was carrying C-4 explosives.
Though he corrected himself and said he was just joking, it was too late for the airport authorities’ taste. “He is extremely remorseful. He had no intent to place anyone in fear. He made what turned out to be the worst mistake of his life,” Mr Bieber said.

The first entry comes from a legal expert who, unfortunately, knows little about transgenders…
Negri Sembilan State Legal Advisor, Iskandar Ali Dewa, told the Court of Appeal here that there is a simple solution to the alleged harassment and arrests that the community faces regularly: force transgenders to dress “like they are supposed to”

Transgenders are of unsound mind, says Negri Sembilan state legal advisor
PUTRAJAYA: Individuals who are identified as the opposite gender, due to Gender Identity Disorder (GID) are of unsound mind, the Court of Appeal here heard.
…
Legal advisor for the Negri Sembilan state government Iskandar Ali Dewa submitted that individuals who suffer from a mental defect do not render a law that affects them unconstitutional.
Asked how transgenders should deal with the law, Iskandar said “there is a simple solution: they can dress like men, as they were biologically created”.
He added that allowing men to dress as women and use hormones would only contribute to their “mental condition”.
When asked if those with GID should be forced to dress as men in public, Iskandar replied “yes, that’s their right as a male,” prompting the public gallery to burst into laughter.
