There have been 22 deaths since the National Service Training Programme (PLKN) began in December 2003 with all the deaths due to drowning, viral infection and other medical reasons.
This is the first time a murder has been reported in a PLKN camp. In 2004, a 17-year-old trainee was raped by a camp instructor, who was later sentenced to 12 years in jail.

Six NS trainees from Pinggiran Pelangi camp to be charged with murder of fellow trainee
ROMPIN: All six National Service trainees from the Pinggiran Pelangi camp in Muadzam Shah near here will be charged on Monday for the death of a fellow trainee.
Five others will be jointly charged with voluntarily causing hurt under Section 323 of the same Act.
The murder charge carries the mandatory death penalty while causing hurt provides for imprisonment of up to one year and a fine of up to RM2,000, upon conviction.

NS trainee murder: Three more trainees arrested
ROMPIN: Three more trainees from the Pinggiran Pelangi camp in Muadzam Shah near here have been arrested to assist in the murder of a fellow trainee – the first such crime committed in a National Service camp.
Rompin OCPD Deputy Supt Johari Jahaya said the three suspects – two aged 18 and another 22 – were picked up at the camp on Sunday.

ROMPIN: There’s a new twist to the story of the National Service trainee who died after being found unconscious. He was actually beaten to death – for jumping the queue during breakfast on Sunday.
Muhammad Suhaimi Norhamidi was hammered repeatedly by several fellow trainees at the Pinggiran Pelangi camp in Muadzam Shah near here, causing him to suffer internal head injuries.

Muhammad Suhaimi, 18, from Kerdau near Temerloh, died without regaining consciousness.
The initial post-mortem report revealed that Suhaimi had died of brain haemorrhage.

Murder at National Service camp
An 18-year-old trainee was bludgeoned to death at a National Service camp in Muadzam Shah, Pahang for allegedly cutting queue during breakfast on Sunday.
Police have arrested three other trainees aged 17, 18 and 21, at the Pinggiran Pelangi camp, to facilitate murder investigations.

He said initial investigations revealed that the victim had angered several trainees when he cut queue during breakfast on Sunday.
This resulted in a fist fight between the victim and the three detained trainees several hours later.
Mohd Haris said the fight erupted again at about 11.30pm and 30 minutes later, the victim was found unconscious on the bathroom floor.

Three NS trainees detained over death of fellow trainee
Police said the trio, all 18years old, were picked from the camp on Monday evening before they were brought to the Muadzam Shah police station to have their statements recorded.

An 18-year-old National Service trainee from Temerloh has died, believed to have been beaten with a blunt object at the Pelangi camp, in Pahang.
Muhammad Suhaimi Norhamidi was unconscious when found by his friends in a bathroom at midnight with bruises at the back of his ears, Berita Harian quoted the police saying.
“As soon as he was found, the unconscious victim was sent to the Hospital Muadzam Shah, where he died,” Rompin’s deputy superintendent Johari Jahaya reportedly said.
Police are investigating the incident further.

NS trainee dies after found unconcious in camp
MUADZAM SHAH: A National Service (NS) trainee died at Muadzam Shah hospital here after he was found lying unconscious in a bathroom at a NS camp here early today.
Muhammad Suhaimi Norhamidi, 18, from Kerdau was found in the bathroom by another trainee few minuteas after midnight.
The trainee immediately alerted the camp commandant and the victim was rushed to the hospital, where he was confirmed dead on arrival.
