Advice from way back in 2011…
Excerpts from:
My second advice to Najib is a real one, not merely a question for him. It is also very short: Get rid of your wife from the public arena! [Spontaneous enthusiastic applause!] As you can see, I am not the only one who would like to throw him that advice!
If Najib’s wife has the itch to involve herself in the affairs of the state (she has certainly given every indication of her itchiness for that), then lobby her husband to nominate her as a candidate in the next election.

In New Year message, Najib glad 1MDB survived, says time to move on

…
KUALA LUMPUR — In his New Year’s Eve message, Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak said that as of today (Dec 31), the country’s troubled state fund, 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) had entered into agreements that would see its debts reduced by approximately RM40.4 billion (S$13.3 billion).
“It is therefore clear that 1MDB’s major challenges are now behind it, as I promised they would be last summer, and all that remains is for the deals it has entered into to be completed and the final steps of 1MDB’s rationalisation programme to complete,” said Mr Najib, who also chairs 1MDB’s advisory board, on his website.
He said it was now time for the country to wait for the outcome of the investigations into the Finance Ministry-owned company, take note of lessons to be learned, and move on in a “constructive” manner.
Mr Najib said those who prejudged the investigation results had harmed Malaysia’s economy and good name abroad.
He said the government’s priorities next year were strengthening the economy, managing the impact of external vulnerabilities, and safeguarding the people’s interests.
He said he would also not apologise for placing Malaysians’s security as his top priority, by introducing the Prevention of Terrorism Act and the National Security Council Bill.

PM, wife’s lavish lifetsyle – Tempo stands by article
Indonesia’s premier current affairs magazine Tempo is standing by their article on Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak and his wife Rosmah Mansor’s lavish lifestyle entitled ‘Hidup mewah sang perdana menteri’.
Tempo senior editor, Purwanto Setiadi (pix), said the magazine believes its sources for the story and although from secondary means, they (the sources) were vetted carefully before the said article was published.
“Like previously, we choose our sources (of the news) carefully. As of today, we believe in the source which was used,” he said when contacted by Malaysiakini.
Purwanto, who is the magazine’s editor for international news, was commenting on Malaysian ambassador to Indonesia Zahrain Mohamed Hashim’s statement that he wanted to meet Tempo editors to correct alleged misconceptions contained in the article.
Purwanto, who is also on Tempo‘s editorial board, pointed out their article had also quoted the Malaysian Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) as dismissing the sources for the article as used by Tempo.
However, Purwanto said if Zahrain or the Malaysian government had other versions, Tempo was open to publishing it.

Indonesian magazine highlights Najib, Rosmah’s ‘luxurious lifestyle’ http://tdy.sg/1G2ORAn
April 21, 2015
KUALA LUMPUR — An Indonesian magazine has published an article highlighting the “luxurious lifestyle” led by Prime Minister Najib Razak and his wife, Madam Rosmah Mansor, just two days ahead of his working visit to the republic.
The article in Tempo, titled Hidup Mewah Sang Perdana Menteri (the luxurious life of the prime minister), discussed at length the couple’s reported purchases, including Mdm Rosmah’s range of expensive Birkin handbags and jewellery, Malaysiakini reported.
Tempo also featured the Malaysian Crime Watch Task Force’s (MyWatch) recent photographs of what it claimed to be the couple’s luxury watches.
MyWatch had alleged that the price of each of Mdm Rosmah’s watches ranged from RM79,200 (S$29,419) for the Hublot BlackBerry Black Magic 114, to RM486,000 for the Richard Mille Lady RM 007 Diamond Cruncher.
Tempo drew comparisons between the watches and Mr Najib’s salary of about RM350,000 per year.
“Mr Najib and his family’s lifestyle has courted the anger of Malaysians,” said the article.
It brought up Mdm Rosmah’s remarks on her RM1,200 hairstyle, which had led critics to accuse her of being out of touch with ordinary citizens struggling to make ends meet.
Tempo also narrowed in on Mr Najib’s stepson, Mr Riza Aziz, who bought an apartment in New York worth RM110 million in 2012 and a house in Beverly Hills, California, worth US$17.5 million (S$24 million) in cash, as reported by the New York Times.

Rosmah Mansor has asked government-funded NGOs to become information technology-savvy so that they can protect her against “nasty people”.
“You better teach them IT, to know how to answer back to those nasty people,” she told more than 1,000 participants who completed their skills training programme.

CAN ROSMAH COOK?
Video | KiniTV PPP president M Kayveas today warned voters against believing sweet promises made by Pakatan… http://fb.me/2Ap2OcvAq

PPP president M Kayveas today warned voters against believing sweet promises made by Pakatan Rakyat, saying that it was akin to expecting the prime minister’s wife Rosmah Mansor to cook for them.
“Don’t believe in the opposition…. if you just believe their promises that there will be no tax, no toll, no need to pay for petrol, then might as well don’t work.
“The prime minister can come to your house, you can call Rosmah to cook for you, (Selangor Umno chief) Noh Omar can wash your car, and I can come water your plants,” he told delegates at the opening of the Selangor PPP convention in Ampang today.
…
Kayveas used himself as an example, stating that he was from the estates and had a job carrying bags.
“But I decided to work hard and become a lawyer,” he said.
“The government cannot come to your house and feed you. Don’t listen to the opposition’s stories.
‘(They want) you not to do anything. Just wait for handouts like rice packets or sugar packets.

Don’t say I control Najib, quips Rosmah

Concerned over negative talk about her, prime minister’s wife Rosmah Mansor has decided to stop sharing her views on managing the country with her husband.
Instead, she said at the launch of the book ‘Guide to Malaysia’ in Kuala Lumpur today, she said that she now only shares her views with friends.

“Sometimes I tell my friend, I don’t tell my husband (because then) you all will say: ‘Ah, Rosmah is controlling Najib’.
“I may say something very right, but the fact is that the wife was talking to her husband, and maybe her husband says, ‘Oh, you are very right, Rosmah’ and they say, ‘Ah, Rosmah is controlling Najib’.
“So now I only talk to my friends…So next time, don’t say I control Najib,” she said, laughing.
Rosmah is often accused of overstepping her bounds as wife of prime minister Najib Abdul Razak.

It’s Anwar who’s Azizah’s crony, Rosmah who’s Najib’s husband – Syed Husin
Written by Loukman Moutaro, Malaysia Chronicle
PUCHONG – Senator Syed Husin Ali upped the ante on critics of PKR president Wan Azizah, who have tried to tar her as being a puppet of her husband Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim, and thus ‘not qualified’ to be appointed Mentri Besar or chief minister of Selangor, the country’s richest state.
“Azizah is the president, so rightfully Anwar is Azizah’s crony and if we were to look at Datin Rosmah and ask who is managing the important affairs in the country, there are those who say Rosmah is Najib’s husband,” Syed Husin said during a talk at the Centre for Reform, Democracy and Social Initiatives.
He was referring to Rosmah Mansor, the wife of Prime Minister Najib Razak, who ironically had accused Anwar of nepotism in selecting Azizah as a candidate for the top job in Selangor state.
Syed Husin told the packed conference hall on Saturday that Azizah, the former Opposition Leader before passing the role over to Anwar in 2008, was better qualified than most people knew.
“She was the top student in her university,” said Syed, referring to the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland where she was awarded a gold medal in obstetrics and gynecology and later graduated as a qualified ophthalmologist.

Najib: Imagine if we make our wives MB
Najib, who is also BN chairperson, said nepotism openly occurred in Selangor where a fit elected representative was asked to resign and be replaced by one’s own wife. A by-election was earlier held and after that, the wife was chosen as candidate for the menteri besar post.
“Just imagine, if in BN we make our own wife as menteri besar, we will be accused of open nepotism but this is happening in Selangor.
“It is up to the people in Selangor to think of what is good and appropriate to be done based on wisdom and rationale, and this consideration will save the state and country as a whole.
“Consideration with a motif like ‘ada udang galah disebalik batu (there’s a giant prawn behind the rock – meaning, ulterior motive) will only bring losses to the people,” Najib said at a Selangor Umno Aidilfitri celebration attended by over 10,000 people at Sekolah Rendah Jenis Kebangsaan (Cina) last night.

Prime Minister’s wife Rosmah Mansor today lamented that she devotes all her time to the rakyat that she even has to forego her hobby – playing badminton.
“I like fashion, it’s not that I don’t like fashion, otherwise it would be very boring. (But) the rakyat have taken everything from me.
“Everything has been taken away from me, including my time, including my hobbies. I don’t get to play badminton now because I am very busy doing things for the rakyat.
“If that is still not right then I don’t know what to say,” she said in her speech when officiating the National Crafts Day 2014 at the Kuala Lumpur Craft Complex.

ROSMAH MANSOR likes to be introduced as the First Lady of Malaysia, but for Sydney fashion designer Carl Kapp, she is his first lady of shopping.
The wife of the Malaysian Prime Minister, Najib Razak, is known across Malaysia simply as FLOM (First Lady of Malaysia), and is Kapp’s biggest customer, having dropped an estimated $100,000 in his boutique ordering garments during a private holiday in Sydney a little more than a fortnight ago.
”She was absolutely gracious and very easy to deal with,” Kapp told PS this week, agreeing she was nothing like the woman often portrayed in Malaysian media for her allegedly extravagant lifestyle.
In recent months, Mansor, who stayed with her husband in the $20,000-a-night penthouse at The Darling hotel, has been forced to deny reports she had bought a $US24 million diamond and a $US200,000-plus crocodile skin, bejewelled Hermes handbag. Kapp, who has a keen eye for such bags, having worked for Hermes, said he did not see any such handbag when he met her.
What her critics in Malaysia will make of her Sydney shopping spree, first reported on local fashion blog Frockwriter, is yet to be determined.
Kapp, who became suspicious of the identity of his mystery VIP customer when his Oxford Street store received a flurry of calls requesting valet parking for her limo, said he was being flown to Malaysia next month with a collection of ”toiles” for Mansor to try on before completing her massive order of 61 dresses, pants and tops.
All made from the finest silk and in a variety of exotic colours and prints, Kapp said his new muse had ”a very good eye for colour and she likes a lot of prints”.

The Airbus ACJ319 with tail number 9M-NAA operated under the call name “NR1” or “Perdana 1” and is the official aircraft for the prime minister, similar to that of the US president’s Air Force One.

‘PM jetting around in new luxury aircraft?’

Amid austerity measures, pro-Umno bloggers are questioning whether Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak is now jetting across the country in a new luxury aircraft.
In blog postings by, among others, Big Dog and RockyBru, they pointed to an Airbus ACJ320 with tail number 9H-AWK using the call number, “Perdana 2” or “NR2” – which incidentally are similar to Najib’s initials.
The aircraft is registered in Malta and leased from aviation group -Comlux.
According to aviation news website Aviation Week, Jet Premier One (M) Sdn Bhd, the company which manages flights for VVIPs in Malaysia, including Najib, had indeed leased the Airbus ACJ320 from Comlux.
The lease was supposed to be a temporary replacement for the regular aircraft Najib uses, an Airbus ACJ319, being refurbished by Comlux Aviation Services.

The suspension of news weekly The Heat by the Home Ministry is a move of “personal vengeance” by Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak, says PKR vice-president and MP for Padang Serai N Surendran.
The suspension proved Najib to be a “tyrant unfit to govern a democratic nation”, Surendran said in a strongly worded statement issued today.
“The suspension is undemocratic, arbitrary and an intolerable assault upon the freedom of the press. It is calculated to keep the media fearful, subservient and emasculated,” he said.
…
Surendran questioned whether criticising the prime minister and his wife was akin to threatening national security, public order or morality.
“The suspension is in clear breach of Article 10 of the federal constitution which protects freedom of speech , including freedom of the press. The rights under Article 10 can only be curtailed on grounds of national security, public order or morality,” he said.
Proven: Changes to publications law merely cosmetic
“It is clear that the suspension is a personal act of retribution and punishment by Najib and Rosmah against The Heat for daring to criticise them,” he added.
Suurendran went on to compare Najib and Rosmah with the infamous Filipino dictator Ferdinand Marcos and his wife, Imelda Marcos.
“It is impossible for the suspension to have been ordered without Najib’s approval and connivance,” he said.

Media groups have lambasted the Home Ministry’s move to suspend new kid on the block, The Heat weekly, with the National Union of Journalists (NUJ) labelling the move as “unwise” and an impediment to freedom of the media.
NUJ president Chin Sung Chew (left) said such a thing should never have happened as the media is merely trying to carry out its duty.
“The media plays a role in monitoring wrongdoings by the ruling government.
“We provide the public access to such information because they have a right to know and such information is of public interest,” Chin said in a text reply to questions from Malaysiakini.
…
Earlier today, the Centre for Independent Journalism (CIJ) described the suspension of The Heat as proof that the administration led by Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak was not serious about reforms to freedom of expression.
“The Heat is a new weekly. It’s still trying to make its mark. In that sense, the suspension won’t have an immediate impact on the public. People won’t feel it,” its executive director Masjalizah Hamzah said.
“But people who advocate for media freedom and the journalists will feel it. If it can happen to The Heat, it can happen to others, except perhaps Utusan Malaysia.”

News weekly The Heat has been suspended “indefinitely” by the Home Ministry, believed to be over a front-page article on Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor’s expenditure, sources close to the publication said.
Senior editor-in-chief at HCK Media Chong Cheng Hai, however, declined to comment when contacted.
It is learnt that the weekly’s reporters were informed about the suspension during an editorial meeting today.
When asked about the suspension, Deputy Home Minister Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar said he was not aware of it.
The weekly, which focuses on politics and socio-economic issues, had been issued a show-cause letter last week. Editor-in-chief David Lee Boon Siew had also been summoned to the Home Ministry in Putrajaya and told to tone down its reports.
The Malaysian Insider understands that although the show-cause letter did not specify the offending article, it was over a report entitled “All eyes on big-spending PM Najib” published in its November 23 to 29 issue.
It is believed that HCK Media, the publisher, had been given 14 days to reply to the show-cause letter.

It seems that publishing articles on Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak’s expenditure and his wife Rosmah Mansor’s jet-setting ways can land news organisations in trouble.
Malaysiakini learnt that the Home Ministry has issued a show-cause letter to The Heat newsweekly over a front page article titled “All eyes on big spending Najib” in its November issue.
However, it is also learnt that the Najib and Rosmah article was not specifically mentioned in the show cause letter. Malaysiakini is contacting the Home Ministry’s publication division for confirmation.
The Heat is published by the HCK Media Group, which is linked to corporate player Clement Hii.
While sources remained tightlipped on the content of the letter, the weekly’s editor-in-chief David Lee Boon Siew also refused to divulge details.
“The Heat has no comments to offer,” Lee said when asked to confirm if a letter has been issued over the article that was published on Nov 22.
Previously, the Malaysian Insider reported that Astro Awani was ordered by the Prime Minister’s Office to retract an article on Rosmah, based on a blog posting by former New Straits Times group editor A Kadir Jasin.
The report, in which Kadir quipped that Rosmah be appointed a minister, was later removed by the TV station.

An alleged call from the Prime Minister’s office apparently resulted in the Astro Awani website removing a report on a blog posting by former New Straits Times group editor-in-chief Datuk A. Kadir Jasin which had suggested that Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor be appointed as a minister.
The report is no longer on the site since yesterday afternoon after it was published on Sunday.
When contacted, the website editor Noor Azam Shairi refused to confirm the matter and requested that questions be directed to his superiors instead.
“I do not know of any directive to take down any reports from Astro Awani or from any news site, so I cannot answer the question.

Along with ‘BN-branded’ aid for flood victims, VIPs representing the coalition have turned up at the main relief centres set up in the several East Coast states.
Mohd Nizar, the eldest son of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak, visited a relief centre in Kuantan about 5pm yesterday.
Sporting a t-shirt with the words ‘Najib My PM 2013’, he was accompanied by a sizeable entourage.
Najib is the long-serving parliamentarian for Pekan, which is among the areas affected by severe flooding.
Mohd Nizar, 35, who was asked if the words on his t-shirt would be interpreted as publicity for his father and the BN, replied: “No. I’m just here to help.”
Saying he has been visiting flood-affected areas over the past few days and five relief centres to date, he then hurried away from the media.

Why not remove ministers and replace with Rosmah, says ex-NST chief editor
Former New Straits Times group editor-in-chief Datuk A. Kadir Jasin says:
1 Remove several ministers and replace them with wonderful, effective Rosmah!
2 These are Datuk Seri Anifah Aman (Foreign Affairs), Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed (International Trade and Industry), Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin (Education) and Datuk Rohani Abdul Karim (Women, Family and Community Development).
4 Najib and Rosmah’s supporters could push for her to be appointed as a Senator before she is made a minister.
5 Najib should appoint Rosmah to be Minister of Special Affairs.

But what I am about to relate is something that I have not related before.
“First, one of our students had been detained by the Egypt authorities for allegations of being a spy.

On another occasion, Najib said as Malaysian students had difficulty in flying out of Egypt, she helped call a Saudi authority’s wife for assistance.
“Through her networking, the Saudi government prepared two Jumbo jets and brought our students to Riyadh, although they do not have a visa to be in Saudi Arabia.”

However, it was later clarified that Najib had cited an Iban proverb “Utai besai gaga’miet” which means “with greater cooperation, the task is easier”.
He said this when thanking Sabah and Sarawak voters for voting BN in 47 parliamentary constituencies.

KUALA LUMPUR: A man who parked his car temporarily at the entrance to the Parliament building here to take a security pass had a tense moment when his car rolled back into the official car of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak Wednesday morning.

“The Prime Minister was unhurt in the incident. Najib was on his way to Parliament,” he told reporters at city police headquarters.

Najib’s obsession with money, status symbols
He has made known his desire to transform Langkawi into a Bali or a Monaco but before catering to high-end tourists, he should address the needs of the local population.
Najib Tun Razak expressed a wish that Langkawi would become like Bali and Monaco, but he should be very careful of what he wishes for. He said: “Thousands of tourists come here to spend, generating revenue not only for companies but also the Government.”
Before Langkawi can be like Bali and Monaco, there are many things Najib must resolve.
…
Najib should start his transformation process and address the needs of the local population, before catering to the needs of the high-end tourists.
Langkawi has many attractions but there are some things which mar its image. The first is the international airport. The airport toilets are filthy, cramped and the floors are often wet.
The visitor will also notice the litter and the islanders’ attitude to cleanliness…
…
Tourist attractions are strewn with styrofoam containers, plastic bags and bottles. Bins are overflowing with rubbish and secluded spots on roads are convenient fly-tipping points. The monsoon drains in Kuah are blocked, especially after rain, and are smelly. Many establishments, including hotels, do not have easy access for the disabled and do the bare minimum to accommodate wheelchair users.
Operators do not warn the public that attractions are closed for repair, as in the case of the Sky Bridge…
…
Despite Najib’s wishes, Langkawi must not become like Monaco, which is staffed by people who are rude and hate tourists. Moreover, Monaco is a high-rise ghetto where superficial but obscenely rich people live, to avoid paying taxes in their own country.
The people of Langkawi are charming and friendly. They must be wary of excessive and uncontrolled development which will take away the natural beauty of their islands, increase the price of goods and create pollution. They must not be misled by those who only value status and the colour of money.

Najib had said that his priority was to ensure peace and harmony in Malaysia.

The second panel shows a police roadblock, with one officer asking a van driver in Malay: “I’m sorry, sir, but are those cigarette ashes or Chin Peng’s ashes?”
The last and biggest panel is split into two – the first reveals a cartoon drawing of a man, presumably Najib, aiming a gun and a bazooka towards a Communist leader emerging from a book with the words ‘Malaya Communist’.
But the next cartoon shows “Najib” flinging his guns behind him and running worshipfully towards another Communist leader who holds a briefcase baring the words “China Communist”.
Granted, Najib has never said any of the words in the first panel of the comic – but he has labeled Chin Peng as a terrorist leader and said “communist terrorists” had caused the deaths of thousands of people.

Najib asked for
(1) additional RM27.3 billion in two supplementary budgets after the 2010 budget;
(2) RM23.5 billion and RM28 billion, also in two packages, after the budget in 2011 and 2012 respectively.
Malaysiakini
The country has asked for extra money twice in every budget year ever since Najib Abdul Razak took over as prime minister in 2009, said think tank Political Studies for Change (KPRU).
The consistent habit of over-spending, it said, is putting the country at risk as it juggles a large debt.
“In the context of the country being in deficit for 16 continuous years, the consistent tabling of two supplementary budgets is seen as a pattern of financial management that is risky to the country’s financial future,” it said in a statement today.
According to KPRU, Najib sought additional RM27.3 billion in two supplementary budgets after the 2010 budget and RM23.5 billion and RM28 billion, also in two packages, after the budget in 2011 and 2012 respectively.
The government has tabled its first supplementary budget of RM15 billion for the budget this year and KPRU predicts that a second one will likely follow suit, based on recent precedents.
This, KPRU warned, will not help in reviving the country’s credit rating which was in July downgraded by Fitch Ratings to “negative”.

Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak has vowed to make corruption a part of Malaysia’s past and not its future. A statement that is bound to rile up those who have accused the coalition he leads of being corrupt to the bone.
Speaking at the Commonwealth Club Lecture in San Francisco, the prime minister, who suffered a severe electoral blow more than four months ago, praised his own anti-graft measures.
“I have created a new governance and integrity minister role in the cabinet; it is held by the former president of the Malaysian chapter of Tranparency International,” he said, in reference to Paul Low, whom critics described as mere window-dressing in the Najib administration.
Najib also said his government had elevated the Malaysia’s anti-corruption watchdog, the MACC, which answers annually to a parliamentary special committee on corruption, an independent advisory board, and a complaints committee – to self-regulated, independent commission status.
“It is our hope that the commission may serve as an example for other countries looking to build the institutional capacity to combat corruption,” he added.
