However their out-of-the-box modus operandi was finally discovered and police arrested the three suspects aged between 29 to 47-years-old in a raid at a luxury condominium in Damansara.

Selangor Criminal Investigation Department chief Datuk Mohd Adnan Abdullah said the police tailed the three Latin American suspects after receiving an intelligence report on Monday.

Police also seized a fake gun, house break-in tools, a scale used to weigh gold, handphones and jewellery estimated to be worth millions of ringgit,” he said in a press conference, here, today.

The group targeted affluent neighbourhoods and has been breaking into homes in the Klang Valley and Petaling Jaya since April. Adnan said the syndicate members lived the high life, renting RM6,000 per month luxury condominiums and driving around in expensive rented vehicles.

They also constantly moved houses to prevent being detected.

“With their arrest, we believe 10 cases in the Klang Valley and Petaling Jaya have been solved.

Latino gangs gaining notoriety in Malaysia

October 3, 2014

Latino gangs have been committing crime in Malaysia for five years with the recent ATM hackings being their biggest ever.

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have said Latino gangs have been on a successful crime spree in Malaysia for the past five years now, with the latest and most dastardly being the recent ATM hackings that resulted in over RM3 million being swiped off.

Speaking to reporters from the Oriental Daily News, police identified Latino gangs as also being behind house burglaries and jewellery theft as well.

According to police, there were 92 Latino criminals apprehended from 2011 to 2013.

Police also said that beginning last year, Latino gangs had taken to cyber crime using techniques like phishing, pharming and malware, a type of software that can be downloaded free from the Internet, to hack into the security systems of financial institutions.

A common method used is phishing.

Police said popular sites these Latino gangs frequented in search of potential victims were YouTube, Facebook and PayPal.

SHAH ALAM: Police have busted a Latin American gang of house burglars, believed to be responsible for dozens of break-ins around the Klang Valley.

This comes after two raids in houses in Subang Avenue and USJ 19, where Shah Alam police nabbed seven Latin American suspects and recovered a treasure trove of stolen goods worth RM200, 000.

Among them were smartphones, tablets, virtual reality glasses, designer bags, flat screen televisions, laptops, watches, foreign currencies and a collection of limited edition commemorative coins.

OCPD ACP Azisman Alias said police had been tracking the gang for about two weeks and estimated that they have broken into over 15 homes in affluent areas in Shah Alam.

ACP Azisman said four of them claim to be from Panama, while another said he was from Spain and one more from claimed to be Guatemalan. They are between 25 to 43 years of age.

“They are being very difficult, claiming that they do not understand English. We doubt it though.

“How can you come all the way to a foreign country and not know a language like English. We are working on getting a translator to speak with them.

“Even more perplexing was how the suspects got into the country,” he said.

New Selangor CPO trains sights on Latino gangs

PETALING JAYA: Selangor’s new top crime buster has vowed to wipe out Latin American gangs that are believed to be involved in multiple crimes in the state.

The Latinos, comprising mostly Colombians, Costa Ricans and Peruvians, are linked to a spate of house break-ins, petty thefts and the ripping off of moneychangers, especially in Shah Alam, Seri Kembangan and Ampang.

Newly-appointed Selangor police chief Senior Deputy Comm Datuk Mohd Shukri Dahlan said he had already formed a task force to hunt down the Latinos.

He noted that last year, Selangor police detained 28 Latinos involved mostly in house break-ins.

SDC Mohd Shukri said the state faced the same problem some 10 years ago when he was the OCPD of Sepang and Shah Alam.

Latinos on comeback trail

KUALA LUMPUR: South American criminals are believed to be back in the city spreading terror after an absence of several months.

Police are on the trail of two gangs believed to be responsible for a spate of thefts in the Klang Valley, including endoscopy machines from private hospitals and substantial cash from automated teller machines (ATM).

They might also be involved in home break–ins.

“The South Americans are back and we are hunting two gangs compromising 12 members,” said City deputy CID chief ACP Khairi Arasa.

He said the five–man ATM gang was believed to be behind last Friday’s incident at a supermarket in Taman Melawati, Ampang, where thieves broke the machine and scooped RM80,000.

“We think they were also involved in several other cases of theft from ATM machines in the Klang Valley.”

He said the gang that targeted endoscopy machines has seven members.

“They are thought to be responsible for the theft of endoscopy machines from Tung Shin hospital on June 11 and Universiti Malaya Medical Center(UMMC) on June 20.
