PERAK WOMEN RAISE RM100,000
IPOH: The Perak Women for Women Society (PWW) raised RM100,000 during its 10th anniversary dinner which was attended by 800 guests here.
The funds would be channelled to support community outreach programmes such as organising workshops on gender violence issues, providing skill training for single mothers and conducting educational talks on sexual abuse prevention in schools.
PWW president Dr Sharifah Halimah Jaafar said the society had just initiated educational programmes for Orang Asli children and had also organised UPSR tuition classes for Year Six students at Pos Woh, Tapah.
At the dinner, jazz queen Datuk Sheila Majid entertained guests with popular numbers include Can’t Take My Eyes Off You, Legenda and Sinaran.

Special Address by Mr Koon Yew Yin, Philanthropist. He matched the money raised by PWW last year, ringgit for ringgit, and handed over a cheque.
He promised the same arrangement for the coming year but I wanted to shout, “No, RM2 for RM1!”
Dr Sharifah, on behalf of PWW, gave Mr Koon a gift of appreciation…

Sheila Majid entered the hall, her arms wide open in greeting. The audience roared a welcome!
She sang and spoke, and had us laughing and applauding. We were enthralled by her magic!
She came down off the stage and mingled with us…

Ten years ago, two ladies, practising gynaecologist, Dr Sharifah Halimah Jaafar, and Yip Siew Keen, saw the need to start a service to help women in crisis in Perak.
This need resulted in the birth of Perak Women For Women Society (PWW).
