Flight attendants ask to be categorised as postal voters
BANGI, June 29 — The National Union of Flight Attendants Malaysia (NUFAM) handed over a memorandum to the government asking it to consider allowing cabin crew from MAS, AirAsia and Fire Fly to cast early or postal votes in the next general election.
Union president Ismail Nasaruddin Abd Wahab claimed that during the last general election 5,000 cabin crew could not vote due to work commitments.
“We had about 5,000 cabin crew who could not vote because they were working. So we request the government to categorise them as postal voters just like media practitioners and security forces personnel,” he said in a dialogue session with deputy minister in Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Ahmad Maslan here yesterday.
The dialogue session also raised issues faced by workers in the airline industry which covered salary increments, the rights and future of flight crew, retirement, female workers’ rights and assistance for cabin crew who are single mothers.
Ahmad Maslan received the memorandum and assured that it would be brought to the attention of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak. — Bernama

The Road Transport Department recently released the list of the winning bids and bidders of the WWW series auction held between April 30 and May 14. Also in the list was the Heath Minister, Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai, who successfully obtained WWW 15 with a bid of RM24,200.

The Chinese media reported today that Liow said the ministry needs to replace the current official car, hence the need to bid for the particular registration number. As to who had paid for the number, the report said he replied, “This is official car… is official.”
The minister justified the purchase, saying that every minister is given an official car, including Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng, whose official car carries the “PG1” number plate. Isn’t that an old number, Mr Health Minister?

The government has initiated a civil suit against Bersih co-chairperson Ambiga Sreenevasan and nine other steering committee members for damages allegedly caused during the Bersih 3.0 protest on April 28. The suit was filed on May 15.
Strangely, national laureate and co-chairperson A Samad Said and prominent Bersih steering committee member Hishammuddin Rais were not among the 10.
“Today, at about 3.25pm I was served with a writ and statement of claim whereby the government of Malaysia is claiming damages against me and members of the steering committee for losses purportedly suffered by them in connection with Bersih,” she said when contacted.

Bersih won’t hesitate to sue DBKL, police
The coalition for free and fair elections urged the authorities to take stern action against the protesters outside the home of its co-chairperson, S Ambiga.
PETALING JAYA: Bersih 2.0 will not hesitate to take legal action against both Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) and the police should any untoward incident occur during the protests in front of the home of Bersih co-chairperson S Ambiga.
Bersih today sent two separate letters to the Inspector-General of Police Ismail Omar and City Mayor Ahmad Fuad Ismail voicing its concerns over the inaction of the authorities in dealing with these protesters who have been harassing Ambiga for the last two weeks.

Former solicitor-general II Mohd Yusof Zainal Abiden’s decision to join the opposition leader’s defence team is a boost for Anwar Ibrahim.
KUALA LUMPUR: In an unexpected twist, the opposition has scored a major victory by securing the services of former solicitor-general II Mohd Yusof Zainal Abiden.
Yusof was the lead prosecutor in Anwar’s Sodomy II trial, which the opposition leader had claimed was a political conspiracy against him.
Now Yusof’s decision to join the defence team representing Anwar and two other PKR leaders on charges pertaining to the Bersih 3.0 rally would further strengthen the perception that the sodomy accusation was crafted with political motives.

PKR’s top two leaders – Anwar Ibrahim and Azmin Ali – are expected to be charged tomorrow in relation to the Bersih 3.0 rally.
According to a notice that was served to Azmin, he is accused of violating Section 188 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 109 and Section 34 of the same law.
Section 188 refers to “disobedience to an order duly promulgated by a public servant”, while Section 109 and Section 34 refer to abetment.
The notice to Azmin said he and five others who are still at large, had conspired with R Tangam, G Rajesh Kumar and Farhan Ibrahim @ Alias to breach a court order issued by Magistrate Zaki Asyraf Zubir on April 26.
