Fahmi issues notice of demand to Papagomo over claims of conducting political talk in mosque

Friday, 11 Aug 2023 9:16 PM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 11 — Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil has sent a notice of demand over allegations that he gave a political talk at a mosque in Rawang, Selangor in July and misusing ministerial powers.

Lawyer Asheeq Ali Sethi Alivi said the notice was issued today to Wan Muhammad Azri Wan Deris, known popularly as “Papagomo” over two postings he made online.

“The minister is demanding a retraction and an open apology from the individual,” he said in a statement today, adding that the slanderous posts by the individual on Facebook and TikTok was malicious and made to sully Fahmi’s good reputation.

The posts insinuated that the minister had gone against the decree of the Sultan of Selangor by conducting a political talk at a mosque, and contained innuendos that Fahmi was abusing his ministerial powers, he added.

Fahmi had refuted the allegations made against him that he was campaigning at the mosque and stressed that he was ready to fully cooperate with the Selangor Islamic Religious Department if needed.

Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan had previously been reported to have said that there was no element of political campaigning in Fahmi’s speech made at the main prayer hall of Nurul Yaqin Mosque, Kampung Melayu Seri Kundang, Rawang.

Nine Malaysian firms make it to Forbes Asia’s Best Under A Billion 2023 list

KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 8): Nine Malaysian firms have been named as part of Forbes Asia’s coverage of Best Under A Billion 2023, which highlights 200 Asia-Pacific public companies with less than US$1 billion (RM4.57 billion) in revenue and consistent top- and bottom-line growth.

In the list which appeared in the August 2023 issue of Forbes Asia, the Malaysian companies are Frontken Corp Bhd, Greatech Technology Bhd, Harbour-Link Group Bhd, Kim Loong Resources Corp Bhd, QES Group Bhd, Scicom (MSC) Bhd, Thong Guan Industries Bhd, Uchi Technologies Bhd and ViTrox Corp Bhd.

Forbes Asia said the annual Best Under A Billion list recognises 200 small- and mid-sized publicly traded companies in the region that outperformed despite stiff global headwinds like inflation and rising funding costs.

It said the standouts are concentrated in chipmaking and related industries.

The magazine said demand for semiconductors — found in everyday items like smartphones, appliances and cars — skyrocketed in the past three years with the accelerating adoption of AI technologies, although the market is expected to soften somewhat this year as supply constraints ease.

Other top performers on the list include companies delivering IT solutions that underpin the digital transformation of healthcare, logistics and manufacturing, and other industries.
