Khalid: Probe into ‘plot’ by 3 Tan Sris to topple PM still with AG
Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar says any further instruction must come from the Attorney-General’s Chambers.
KUALA LUMPUR: Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Khalid Abu Bakar said the investigation papers based on a report that three former prominent civil servants with Tan Sri title had tried to topple the prime minister is still with the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC).
“Whether we want to proceed with the case or not, we need to refer to the AGC for further instructions. That is the law,” he told reporters today after attending a police ceremony at Bukit Aman here where police received new Kia cars.

Zahid told the Dewan Rakyat that investigations into former Bank Negara governor Zeti Akhtar Aziz, former Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission chief Abu Kassim Mohamed and former attorney-general Abdul Ghani Patail had been completed.
“The findings were submitted to the Attorney-General’s Chambers on Nov 29 last year for further directive and study by the deputy public prosecutor,” Zahid said.

In a police report filed last July, Khairul claimed that Zeti, Gani and Abu Kassim had provided confidential information to foreign agencies, including the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
Previously, Bernama reported Khalid as saying police had called off the investigation because the police report by Khairul, who is also known as “Azwanbro”, was based on hearsay.

Lawyers volunteer to defend Zeti, Gani, Abu Kassim
Some 10 lawyers have already offered to provide free legal services to former Bank Negara governor Zeti Akhtar Aziz, former MACC chief Abu Kassim Mohamed and outgoing attorney-general Abdul Gani Patail.
This is according to lawyer Yusmadi Yusoff, who mooted that a team of volunteers be set up to act as the trio’s legal counsel, following the police report lodged against them over an alleged conspiracy to topple Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.
“I proposed that lawyers form a volunteer team to defend Zeti, Abu Kassim and Abdul Gani, because for me, they are symbols of our institutions which must be defended,” the former Balik Pulau MP told Malaysiakini.
He said the allegations in Umno Youth’s police report are baseless and made with bad intentions.
“So based on this realisation, I am inviting all Malaysian lawyers whether they are seniors, juniors, lecturers, or law students who wants to defend the institutions, to come together to defend them pro bono (for free),” he said.
Yusmadi added that all quarters should make defending the agencies a priority, since they are protecting the people’s interests.

Perkasa slams Umno Youth for ‘3 Tan Sri conspiracy’ claim
Umno Youth vice chief Khairul Azwan Harun’s police report alleging a high level conspiracy against the prime minister was “insolent” and “shocking”, Perkasa said.
It said Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin’s silence on the matter also raised suspicions over the move.

“Was Khairul Azwan acting on instructions? What evidence does he have to prove the trio, who had investigated 1MDB, had intentions to topple the PM, or is this allegation a concoction?” Perkasa integrity, anti-corruption and abuse of power bureau chief Muhammad Faiz Na’aman said in a statement.
“The move is a threat, an attempt to spook those involved in the 1MDB investigation or revenge for those trying to expose the truth,” he added.
Mohammad Faiz urged the trio accused to take legal action against Khairul Azwan.

Zeti seeks legal counsel, Gani says conspiracy charge ‘publicity stunt’
Abdul Gani, meanwhile, described the allegations as a publicity stunt.
“These frivolous allegations are publicity seeking stunts with no substance. Attempts at character assasination would only trigger a backlash and undermine the goverment in the long run,” he told Bernama.
Abdul Gani further reiterated that he had always acted professionally in the course of his work and will continue to work professionally in all his future endeavours.

Zeti seeks legal counsel on conspiracy claim

Former Bank Negara Malaysia governor Zeti Akhtar Aziz is seeking legal counsel over the police report lodged by Umno Youth vice chief Khairul Azwan Harun today.
Khairul Azwan alleged Zeti, former attorney-general Abdul Gani Patail and outgoing Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission chief Abu Kassim Mohamed gave false documents to foreign agencies as part of a conspiracy to topple the prime minister.
“I am not going to say anything without my legal counsel,” Zeti told reporters in Kuala Lumpur.

‘Plot to topple PM’ – Umno Youth files report against Zeti, Gani, MACC chief
Umno Youth has filed a police report against former Bank Negara governor Zeti Akthar Aziz, outgoing Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief Abu Kasim Mohamed and former attorney-general Abdul Gani Patail.According to Umno vice-chief Khairul Azwan Harun, the three are believed to be involved in a conspiracy to topple Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak and the Malaysian government.
Khairul lodged the report with the Dang Wangi police headquarters.
In his report, which was sighted by Malaysiakini, the Umno Youth leader said the three were suspected of providing confidential information to foreign agencies without authorisation, including the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
He also alleged that some of the documents submitted were falsified and the information twisted to achieve their agenda.
Khairul urged the police to expedite their investigations on this matter.

That’s the question former information minister Zainuddin Maidin wants answered.
“I want an explanation from the Umno Youth chief whether he consented to Umno Youth’s actions,” Zainuddin wrote in his blog today.
Khairul had earlier claimed that Zeti, Abu Kassim and Gani were involved in a conspiracy to topple Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak and the Malaysian government.
