16 BARRELS FULL OF FINERY – I WAS SHOCKED: DR M CRITICIZES NAJIB’S ‘REALLY BIG’ SPENDING AT DAUGHTER’S WEDDING
Former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad said even royalty do not hold weddings like the one held by Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak for his daughter.
“The wedding was extraordinary. Even the rajas had never done a wedding like this.
“The flowers alone were RM3 million. (The venue) was full of flowers,” he said in a video interview uploaded on YouTube yesterday by blogger Din Turtle.
Mahathir was referring to the wedding reception of Najib’s daughter Nooryana Najwa and son-in-law Daniyar Kessibayev at KLCC on March 28 last year.
Mahathir, who did not attend the reception, said he was informed of the lavishness by those who were present.
“There were even pictures (that were leaked). They put a sign asking people not to take pictures.
“They were afraid people would know about their lifestyle. Look at Najib’s spending, it’s really big.
“He jets around in an air plane, so does his wife (Rosmah Mansor), all these does not fit the lifestyle of a prime minister,’ said Mahathir.

KUALA LUMPUR, May 2 ― Protesters’ demands for the removal of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) and complaints against corruption and the prime minister’s daughter’s wedding ceremony were among reasons given by the police when seeking to remand arrested protesters, lawyer N. Surendran revealed today.
The PKR vice-president who acted as one of the lawyers for activist Datuk Ambiga Sreenevasan, DAP’s Anthony Loke, PSM secretary-general and PAS central committee member Dr Mohd Hatta Ramli, ridiculed the reasons that were the basis of the police’s application to remand the quartet today.
“Some of the things that they raised during this application, the investigations were under Section 143 and the Sedition Act and some of the issues or grounds that were raised by the police goes to show the way the police have been abusing their power,” he told reporters.

Cops after anti-GST leaders over ‘wedding’
Among the grounds police had given in wanting to remand several leaders over the anti-GST protest yesterday was because the wedding of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak’s daughter came up at the rally.
This was revealed by Padang Serai MP N Surendran, who was part of the legal team that represented four leaders during their remand hearing this morning.
“Some of the issues that were raised by the police for grounds of application for remand…. is that there was a demand at the rally to cancel GST.
“Another reason was corruption was raised, and another was that the rally organisers raised about lavish spending in the country.
“Another reason is that during the rally, the speakers raised the wedding of Najib’s daughter (Nooryana Najwa).
“These were among the reasons for which the individuals are investigated under the Sedition Act and Section 143 of the Penal Code,” Surendran told reporters outside the Jinjang police detention centre this afternoon.
Section 143 of the Penal Code makes it an offence to be a member of an unlawful assembly.

Aide: PM didn’t fly wedding guests to Kazakhstan
EXCLUSIVE No public funds were used to fly guests from Malaysia to Kazakhstan for Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak’s daughter’s wedding, said special officer to the premier Rizal Mansor.
Instead, Rizal said the flight costs for some guests were borne by the groom Daniyar Kessikbayev.
Rizal was among the guests flown to Almaty, Kazakhstan, to attend the wedding reception of Nooryana Najwa Najib and Daniyar.
“I am also close with the groom’s family; that is why I was invited. Some of the guests were flown to Kazakhstan by the groom’s family.
“For a non-corporate person such as myself, surely it (flight) was prepared by the family there which invited (us). The others bore the costs on their own.
“The usage of a single cent of government fund (to fly guests) does not arise,” he told Malaysiakini.
..
Rizal also denied that a total of 300 guests were flown to Kazakhstan, pointing out that the actual figure was 250.
…
Rizal also denied Najib’s informal meeting with the Kazakh leadership is an attempt to turn the wedding trip into a government affair so Putrajaya will have to bear the cost.

PM’s aide: Groom’s side paid for KLCC bash
EXCLUSIVE The social media has been abuzz about how millions were allegedly spent for the lavish wedding of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak’s daughter, which was held at the Kuala Lumpur City Centre (KLCC).
The March 28 do was one of five ceremonies to mark the wedding of Nooryana Najwa and her Kazakh husband Daniyar Kessibayev. It was a closed-door event and guests were requested not to snap photographs and post them on the Internet.
Even former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad noted how rumours were circulating that the flower decoration alone cost a whopping RM3 million.
However, Najib’s special officer Rizal Mansor clarified that not a single sen of government money was spent for the ornate event and therefore it should not be made an issue.
He told Malaysiakini that the KLCC function was requested by Daniyar’s family, and they paid for it.
“They requested the function so that they can celebrate the wedding with their friends here.

One of the guests, Filipino personality Kris Aquino, daughter of former Philippines president Corazon Aquino, shared the couple’s request printed on the wedding dinner invitation.
It read, “On this day of joy, we thank you for joining us in the celebration of our love and the beginning of our new life together.
“In the spirit of keeping this celebration an intimate affair, we would appreciate if you do not post any pictures or videos on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or other social media.
“Thank you for your kind understanding and cooperation.”
In her accompanying note, Aquino wrote on her Instagram, “This was the special request, no posting, so even if all the other guests have been taking pictures nonstop, I’m obeying.”

Dr Mahathir continues attack on @NajibRazak by criticising Najib daughter’s lavish wedding http://tdy.sg/1E2Hhrl
TAMAN MELAWATI — Former Malaysian prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad today (April 25) continued his attacks against Mr Najib Razak, this time drawing attention to the lavish wedding receptions of the prime minister’s daughter recently.
“This is not a playing matter. It was the wedding of the century,” he told some 1,000 people gathered at a forum at the K-Klub in Taman Melawati today, referring to the extravagance of the wedding.
“Not wedding of the year, you know, but wedding of the century.”
He said that a 300-member wedding party had made their way to Kazakhstan, where the groom was from, but added that the matter had not gotten attention of the mainstream media.
“When they went to Kazakhstan with 300 people, there were no reports (about it) but that’s normal of the mainstream media not to.
“The wedding reception in Pekan we know about, but who are the 300 who went to Kazakhstan?”
With his typical dry humour, Dr Mahathir said that no one remembered the weddings of his five children, as he had no money to make it lavish.
“Who, here, remembers the wedding of my five children?
“No one even knew about it because I’m a stingy man. I didn’t invite a lot of people. I had no money to spend.”
