GEORGE TOWN, Sept 10 — InvestPenang director Datuk Lee Kah Choon today defended Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng’s “controversial” speech on Malaysia’s crime situation delivered in Hong Kong last week, saying it was a common grouse among potential foreign investors
The special advisor to the Penang chief minister, who had accompanied Lim on the trade mission to Hong Kong last week, asserted that the world generally viewed security in Malaysia poorly.
“When we go out on these trade missions, we find out that the main consistent issue being raised is about security and the perception created internationally is that our security is very bad, almost in the same league as countries like Colombia,” he said.
Responding to a question on the “controversial” speech Lim had delivered where he had pointed out the “four problems of Malaysia” in Hong Kong, Lee said Lim was not “running down the country” in his speech but was just addressing the main concerns that investors has regarding the country.

Guan Eng suggests ministers and mainstream media take English lessons
Barisan Nasional ministers and BN-controlled English mainstream media should take language lessons to improve their vocabulary instead of spreading “ridiculous and malignant” lies, said DAP’s Lim Guan Eng (pic).
Noting that he had released the full text of his speech to the Penang diaspora on September 5, he called on the Barisan Nasional-controlled media to print the speech in full.
In his speech, Guan Eng listed four issues with Malaysia that made it less attractive and competitive to investors in Hong Kong — crime, corruption, the rise in household and government debts, and the declining standards in education, productivity and labour skills.
He argued that the Barisan Nasional government has been playing up racial, religious and extremist sentiments to avoid dealing with the four issues. — September 11, 2013.

Press Statement By Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng In Komtar, George Town On 11.9.2013
BN Minister and BN-controlled English mainstream media should stop its ridiculous and malignant lies that I run down Malaysia to Hong Kong investors in an investment mission in Hong Kong but should instead take English tuition lessons to improve their vocabulary. How can I get foreign investors to come to Penang if I run down my own country as Penang is part of Malaysia?
As part of my trip to Hong Kong from 3-5 September 2013, I had met the Penang diaspora for dinner, which are those from Penang but now working, studying or residing in Hong Kong. I had released the text of my speech to them in Penang. I hope that this speech will be reprinted in full by those BN media that did not print my original text but only published those attacking my speech.
I regret that the standard of English has deteriorated to such an alarming rate that both the BN Federal government Ministers and BN-controlled English media have such a poor command of English vocabulary that they do not understand the meaning of the word “diaspora”.

Guan Eng slammed for running country down
PETALING JAYA: Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng has been taken to task for running the country down during an official mission to woo foreign investors in Hong Kong.
SEMUT (Sensible and Ethical Malaysian United Team) president Huan Cheng Guan said Lim had to justify the use of state funds to go abroad with a delegation only to run down the Government and the country.
“Lim must explain why he persisted in running down and shaming our country in a most unethical manner,” he said.
…
Huan said Lim gave a false impression to the audience that Malaysia was not a safe place.
He lambasted Lim for claiming that the Federal Government had resorted to phoney measures to cut costs.
He also slammed Lim for claiming that Barisan Nasional had avoided tackling real problems such as crime, corruption, rising debts, declining education standard and productivity and workforce issues.
