Tan Keng Liang, Gerakan: Now in the opposition…

Tan Keng Liang, Gerakan Youth Chief, defends Najib: Gets whacked all over Twitter!

Tan Keng Liang is a member of a political party currently out of favour among the Chinese in Malaysia. Like his party, he is not exactly flavour of the month.

  • Tan Keng Liang
  • On Twitter, he is often addressed by detractors as Liang Liang and ahliang. He is tough (if you admire him) or thick-skinned (if you don’t).
  • He gets a lot of insults, usually crude, as you can see from the tweets. Good training for a politician?
  • He failed to get elected in Taiping at GE 14.

This was Gerakan Youth chief Tan Keng Liang’s reaction to the Pakatan Harapan government’s announcement of an RM40 million ceiling to purchase the rights for the live telecast of World Cup matches on the state-owned RTM.

Taking to Twitter, he said this was perhaps the reason the government needed to set up a fund for Malaysians to contribute to settling the national debt.

“Harapan government today asked the rakyat to donate to a fund to help the government.

“Today, the government also announced it would use up to RM40 million to pay for live RTM World Cup matches. Time for Malaysians to rethink.

“I wish to ask if the fund is related to the World Cup live matches on RTM? I thought the government wanted to save money?” he added.

Earlier, Communications and Multimedia Minister Gobind Singh Deo said RTM would air 41 out of 64 World Cup 2018 matches, of which 27 matches would be live while the 14 remaining matches would be a subjected to a delayed telecast.

He said the cabinet, which met this morning, had placed an RM40 million ceiling to buy the rights to air the matches.

The minister also revealed that sponsors would absorb a substantial portion of the cost.

Gerakan Youth chief Tan Keng Liang acknowledged that BN remains unpopular with the people and its leaders must rely on building their own personal brands.

“If a party is unpopular, you will not get attention regardless of whether your party is performing or not, and especially if the online promotion method is too conservative or boring.

“The campaigns have to be personalised as people knowing your party through you is more effective,” he said.

Keng Liang gets roasting from US human rights group

“Tan Keng Liang is a sad broken record who ignored HRW in opposing Guantanamo Bay because he doesn’t want to take us up on Malaysia issues,” he said in a Twitter post in response to the Gerakan leader.

Embedded image permalink

Human Rights Watch (HRW) deputy director Phil Robertson has fired back at Gerakan Youth chief Tan Keng Liang for questioning the organisation’s credentials after it released an unflattering report on the state of human rights in Malaysia.

Pointing out human rights abuses in the US where the organisation is based, Tan had on Twitter dismissed its damning 145-page report entitled: ‘Creating Culture of Fear: The Criminalisation of Peaceful Expression in Malaysia’.

“Why bother with HRW’s views on Malaysia? That’s a human rights group from US, where Guantanamo Bay operates,” he said in reference to the US Army facility which holds suspected terrorists without trial.

Robertson, however, pointed out that HRW had also been vociferous in its opposition to Guantanamo Bay and described Tan’s comments as an attempt to dodge pressing issues in Malaysia.

You fools just given limkitsiang 6 months of holiday + gaji buta.

Free Malaysia Today

Speaker, Deputy Speaker, BN MPs – Are they all fools?

October 24, 2015

The outcome of the motion to suspend Lim Kit Siang from Parliament has been described as the work of fools!

By P Ramakrishnan

The Speaker, the Deputy Speaker and the BN MPs took exception to the remarks of Lim Kit Siang which rightly criticised the lack of seriousness shown in the investigation of the scandal involving 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB). Consequently, he was unfairly suspended without the benefit of defending himself which went against natural justice.

In all fairness, he should have been referred to the Rights and Privileges Committee under Standing Order 80 for it to probe into this matter to establish the fact of whether Kit Siang had indeed insulted the Speaker and Parliament. The manner in which he was suspended reminded one of Shakespeare’s play, The Merchant of Venice, where a pound of flesh was insisted upon come what may!

On October 22, 2015, Parliament was, as it were, baying for blood and it succeeded in its effort. As a result, Parliament had lost a voice that had always spoken with conviction and conscience, without fear or favour, to raise issues that reflected the concerns of the people. Much input into the budget debate has been denied – which is a pity.

The resultant outcome of the motion that suspended Kit Siang from Parliament has been described, as we are made to understand, as the work of fools!

Gerakan Youth chief Tan Keng Liang had twittered, “You fools just gave Lim six months of holiday plus gaji buta.” Who are these fools that he was referring to? There is no doubt about it! All those who played a role in suspending Kit Siang have been labelled as fools.

And who played this role? It was the Speaker, the Deputy Speaker and the BN MPs – 107 of them. All of them were the ones responsible for the suspension of Kit Siang. All of them have been called fools. What are they going to do about this scandalous reference to them?

Does Tan Keng Liang realise that he had also called his party President, Mah Siew Keong, – if he had been present in Parliament and voted for the motion – a fool for supporting the motion? Malaysians are wondering whether he hit the nail on the head!

As for Kit Siang it will not be “six months of holiday,” knowing him. He is never known to slow down or take things easy. That man is always on the move, always addressing issues that affect the nation, always commenting on the stupidity of policies and the senseless remarks of politicians that don’t benefit the ordinary rakyat. That voice will not be silenced!

Is he getting “gaji buta”? For heaven’s sake, “No.” That “gaji” was his legitimate due and well-deserved. Does Keng Liang remember that when Gobind Singh was suspended from Parliament without his allowance, it was the late Karpal Singh who challenged this ruling and took this unjust matter to Court and won the case. The Court, in its wisdom, ruled that Gobind Singh was entitled to his allowance and he was paid back-dated.

Keng Liang not sorry for ‘sexual offender party’ remark

Embedded image permalink

PKR will not get any apology from Gerakan Youth chief Tan Keng Liang over his “I would never join a party led by a sexual offender” remark.

The remark riled up PKR which sees it as a direct hit at the party’s de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim, who has been serving a five-year jail term since Feb 10, after being convicted for sodomy.

“Why should I apologise for stating facts and my preference?” asked Tan.

He made the remark when referring to former Umno deputy minister and former Global Movement for Moderates CEO Saifuddin Abdullah’s entry into PKR last Thursday.

“Is he trying to force me to join PKR?” Tan asked, responding to a Malaysiakini report on Oct 17, headlined “Keng Liang’s ‘sexual offender’ remark riles up PKR man”.

‘I’ll never join a party led by a sexual offender’

Published 15 Oct 2015, 2:31 pm

Saifuddin Abdullah’s decision to join PKR comes as no surprise, since he has often been critical of the government on certain issues such as 1MDB.

Commenting on his political migration, Gerakan Youth chief Tan Keng Liang said the former deputy minister sent a clear message by joining PKR and not DAP.

And when a twitter user prodded him on when he would join PKR, Tan responded: “I would never join a party led by a convicted sexual offender.”

“We should take care our back too. Friendly advice,” he added.

Tan was referring to former opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim, who is serving a five-year jail term for sodomy.

It’s called SOUR GRAPES. Just because Gerakan can’t get more than a few hundred even if it were to hold a rally, it doesn’t want others to exercise their constitutional right for peaceful assembly.

Putrajaya must be firm against street rally participants who disrupt public order, the youth wing of ruling Barisan Nasional component party, Gerakan, said today.

Its chief Tan Keng Liang (pic, left) called for an increase of the maximum fine of RM10,000 under the current law to RM50,000, and for a jail sentence of up to six months.

Tan said while street demonstrations were a right under the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Article 29 of the same declaration also allowed governments to enact laws to maintain public order.

“Gerakan Youth proposes that the punishment for street demonstrations be increased,” he said when opening the youth wing’s 44th national delegates conference in Shah Alam today.

“We hope the home ministry will take note of this matter immediately for the sake of our country,” said Tan, whose party won only one parliamentary seat, Simpang Renggam, in the 2013 general election. The following year, it won a second seat, Teluk Intan, through a by-election.

IGP orders probe on Twitter user impersonating Gerakan Youth chief

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 12 — Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar today directed the police to trace the person handling a Twitter account purporting to belong to Gerakan’s Tan Keng Liang, after the user accused the police chief of defending the prime minister over the Altantuya Shaariibuu murder.

The account’s screen name differs from that of Tan’s own by a single character, @tankenglaing versus the Gerakan Youth chief’s @tankengliang account.

“PCIRC @PDRMsia please trace the Twitter handle below and take appropriate action,” Khalid said on his own Twitter account, addressing the Police Cyber Investigation Response Centre.

Khalid’s tweet included a screen capture of a post by the fake account that read: “#altantuya ..setahu saya anjing @KBAB51 ikut arahan tuan @NajibRazak walaupun ia adalah haram dan melanggar undang undang”.

The operator of the bogus account began directing tweets at Khalid following a video investigation of the 2006 murder case that was published online by the Al Jazeera news network yesterday.

Tan yesterday responded to users querying his posts on Altantuya by pointing out that these were not made from his account.

“Not difficult to determine whether it’s my genuine account or the fake one. Just judge the tweets. Easy! Don’t be mislead by fake accounts,” Tan wrote.
